Redundant and Boring Quests

In most recent updates new gear and weapons have been added into that game, which is a good thing, however the way they are added and how they want you to acquire them is questionable. Quest-lines are monotonous, boring, and unnecessary. is little to no challenge present within them and this is where the main problem arises. Quests expect you to indulge them with many hours of unnecessary playtime that has remained consistent since year 1. Its my hope and wish that this type of quest gets looked at and reworked because as of right now players are growing ever more frustrated. To get new gear in destiny a new quest or activity is released that allows you to do what it dictates and get said gear, but with the past few updates quests seem to be slowing down and mainly just filler. Making it clear i'm not complaining there's not enough time in the day to complete these or casual players have no place in the game, i'm just poking at the redundant way quests are being structured. Looking and the most recent being solstice it offers little content other than armor and a new area, this lack of content is hidden behind massive waves of mediocrity. Justifiably the EAZ is a solid area and really fun to play, but they quickly ruin it by making players who want the gear to delve into its repetitive nature for hours which kills its novelty almost on release. Those who want the armor it requires you to play gamemodes and complete tasks that players have been playing and completing since they released. This constant repetition and forcing players into old content disguised as new content kills the game making it job like. On top of quests being boring and frustrating, the quests have no challenge whatsoever. The quest for solstice armor is not even challenging just monotonous and redundant. When bungie described their game as no longer being for average players what me and many thought was the games difficulty was going to spike and getting gear would be harder and more rewarding, much like whisper and outbreak. Instead from whats been seen so far there is no difficulty and only hours of repetition and "go here" "collect that" this type of quest is what makes the game so unfun. Its bluntly obvious time filler quests conveniently right before shadowkeep releases. Overall i hope this type of quest doesnt carry over to future destiny due to how destructive these types of quests are. EDIT: rewrote due to missunderstanding

  • OP’s title is weird but I agree with a good chunk of the post, wtf is this grind? I don’t want to be zoning out playing “new content” and the sheer lack of any excitement from the quest lines of solstice is actually laughable. But here’s the thing, I honestly think the solstice grind could have been touched up on but the rest of quest lines for pinnacles and exotics actually pass, but solstice was supposed to be new content, I don’t want to be running around bloody Titan collecting alkane dust like some -blam!-!

The pathetic justifications some of you come up with, in a attempt to get stuff for free is hilarious. It's a mmo style game. Either play it or get over it and move on. I work on average about 10-12 hours a day and come home to family life and side projects I'm doing around the house. Some days I play a short time, others, I play a lot and sometimes I don't play at all. Welcome to life. Games are luxury, not an obligation. Period, end of story.

    • I put in 40-50 hours a week. Have a 4 month old daughter, 13 year old and yet still can put in work to get progress done towards the armor. Maybe it's just a you problem.

      • Yeah, they need to tone back some of the overall grind a bit. I know they want to not cater to Joe Walmart, but there are more of those than anything else. They'll suffer and need to throw themselves at another publisher if they go too hardcore. It wouldn't kill them to keep some hardcore grinds like titles and such, but don't move the whole game that way. That's how you make your player population go the same way Anthem's did. Solstice however, we have enough weeks to do this. It's not even week 2 yet.

        • Not a Bungo advocate BUT, you have a month and now that rawdoowkeep has been delayed i think some more days, i turned my armor set to blue yesterday and i play 3 to 4 hours at night. The grind is strong but won't be any different from shadowkeep and onwards, you have to decide whether to quit or play.

          • The big issue for me is quests that require certain aspects of the game. I travel for work and as a result I've missed the last 2 times The Dreaming City was at the last stage of the curse. Next week it happens again and I travel for work. My Izanami quest has been on hold because of it. They really need to work on stuff like that, because it forces players to have to play at a certain time frame instead of just playing when they have the time.

            • My way of approaching time limited events in any game, is either commit to doing it, or commit to not doing it. No matter which one I pick, I'll always play the game, and if it happens the opposite way I commit, I'm ok with that too. For example: I've committed myself to NOT playing D2 for the Solstice armor. I still play the game when I have time, and any time spent in game is spent working on an armor objective, but I'm ok whether I finish it or not.

            • I basically just had to change how I think about Destiny. Do the stuff you want, and forget the rest. I just did the Zero Hour quest the other night with some buds and it was AWESOME. Loved it. It was hard and made me really value the gun, BUT I’m not touching this Solstice stuff. Pointless grind and too much of it. It’s exactly what turned me off from Black armory. I just play the milestones now that I enjoy. Hoping shadowkeep has a three man dungeon, new strikes, raid, lots of story, and a quest or two like Outbreak and Whisper. I’m out on “melee 1500 Minotaurs for no apparent reason” type grinds.

            • Only started Destiny again and there is an insane amount to do.... it’s brilliant! Honestly convinced two of my friends to start playing it as well, I’m only putting in an hour or two a night in at most because work/partner etc but I love it. I get to jump on and go ‘ok I’ve only got an hour, what shall I spend that hour doing’ It means I have a productive and fun hour focusing on progressing towards something. I 100% prefer having too much todo as opposed to too little

            • Sisyphus stared at Solstice of Heroes in disbelief. "I think I'd rather push a very heavy boulder up a very large hill, only to watch it roll back down again... than complete one set of Solstice armor," he said.

Im almost done with my titan gear. Im sure as hell not going to masterwork it. F that. I think the key is to play in small amounts. Pick an objective amd stick to it. Day by day youll be finished. 26 days left I think so no need to rush. Gotta say though the whole experience has been a drag. No way in hell im doing it on my warlock or hunter. Screw that. The EAZ loses is new luster super faster as well. I dont bother looking for keys, and just go to orbit. The stuff you get from the packages is absolute garbage. So not motivated.

There’s a thing called choice. Sometime in the past, players asked Bungie for more to do/more to grind for. Bungie made it happen. Now people like me, with a full time job have to make choices about what activities we spend time on. Take Solstice and Tribute Hall for example. Initially, I chose to not invest time on the Tribute Hall. Just didn’t want to spend all my resources just so I could get access to a glorified shooting range. I ended up earning enough materials through normal play to unlock 45 tributes so far. While I can spend more time to earn the final 5 at a faster rate, I’ll just play normally until I am able to get them. On the other side, I chose not to bother with the Solstice armor. There are more than enough activities to select from. I do not feel the need to grind for and waste my time unlocking the same exact armor I unlocked and masterworked last Solstice. I don’t think Bungie expects you to play every activity. I think the activities are there for you to decide which to spend your time in. Choose wisely.
