The reduction in player numbers isn't about matchmaking at all, it was about other design flaws introduced in d2y1. To try to pin it on lack of universal matchmaking is blatantly misleading. It would not help the numbers to have all activities matchmade because it wouldn't change the core of why people left.

(Once a player chooses the matchmaking [u]OPTION[/u], this is easily fixed with a simple disclaimer from Bungie: “WARNING! You are entering end game level content requiring coordinated team strategy and a light level of at least (fill in the blank). We HIGHLY RECOMMEND you enter this activity as part of a clan or an LFG organized group. If you wish to continue as a part of a randomly matched group choose “Continue”. If you wish to leave this activity now choose “Exit”. “ At this point the onus is on the duly warned player (as it should be). At this point the player has a choice to go forward or do something else. At this point there is no RATIONAL player complaint that is warranted (You’re never going to stop irrational complaining, that’s just human nature). But every guardian on that match made team was told exactly what they were getting into from the start. They all received the same warning. At this point if a player takes to the forums to rant, then he/she should be chided and run out of here because they knew full well how difficult the content was. I’ve gone into many game situations where I was nowhere near ready. Some of them I struggled and muddled through, others, I gave up and did something else and maybe tried it again later after I gained levels. The point I, and many other solo players on this forum are making is give US the choice. Inform us of the difficulty of the content and then let us put on our big boy/girl pants and make that decision for ourselves. We paid for the game. We choose to play it. I posted it after seeing a lot of the similar responses I see in this thread: a lot of “I’d rathers” and “I’d prefers”. “I’d rather have a coordinated team to do _______ activity.” or “I’d prefer a group that has mics for communication.” And now I’ll post the same response I posted to similar answers that were given then. It seems that many of these guardians who would “rather” or who would “prefer” would never use the [u]optional[/u] matchmaking in the 1st place. So my question is this: Why. Do. You. Care??? Why does everyone have to play this game the way YOU would “rather” or the way YOU would “prefer”? Why does that matter so much to you? Let me ask you this: What if I log on right now, jump into a raid solo, waste 15 or 20 minutes of my own time getting destroyed and wiping and then quit and go do a strike? I actually did this with VoG back in D1. I bet you didn’t know that until just now did you? You know why you didn’t know that... because it didn’t affect YOUR game in any way. Now imagine if six of us decided to get together randomly and do that? Guess what... STILL has no bearing on YOUR gaming experience. Quick story and then I’ll wrap this up: I’m a solo gamer by nature. It’s not that I can’t run with a group or that I can’t speak on the mic (which some people have issues with and I understand that) it’s that I usually [u]choose[/u] not to. Solo gaming is generally what I’d “rather” do. It’s what I “prefer”. My first online gaming experience was a free-to-play PS3 game called Dust 514. This game regularly put you into randomly match made games, sometimes against/with other random blueberries (they were blue in that game too) sometimes against/with other squads of Corp mates (corps in that game would be clans in Destiny) One night while I was doing my solo thing I came across a couple of guys from a particular Corp. We were [u]randomly[/u] thrown into a few matches together both with and against each other. Eventually one of the guys who happened to be the Corp leader sent me a squad invite. I joined their squad and we had a blast. The next night I logged on and I had a friend request from the Corp leader. I accepted the request and shortly after that he sent another squad invite. I joined their squad that night and again it was awesome. After a few weeks of invites and running with them as a solo guy, I eventually started talking on the mic and after about a month or so he finally convinced me to join their Corp. It was a great experience and those matches and squads are still some of my favorite gaming memories. Eventually the corp started to drift apart (as corps/clans are wont to do). No drama or anything, just people not logging on as much, other games coming out, real life issues, that sort of thing. Over time I found myself running as a solo player again, which again, is fine as it’s my nature anyway. One night I’m playing, similar situation, I come across a Corp squad. They send me an invite/friend request. I run with them solo for a while and eventually join their Corp. This is the group I started Destiny 1 with but we eventually drifted apart too and I’ve pretty much been solo since then. The point to all of this is, whether you play the game solo, or as a squad, Corp, clan, whatever, let it be each individual gamer’s experience. It doesn’t have to be yours, or the way YOU would do it. Both on Dust & Destiny there were times when I would squad up with random people too, not just corps or clans. And we were able to have great games. So who knows, maybe a bunch of random blueberries teaming up and struggling through, and possibly even (gasp) ACCOMPLISHING something others said they couldn’t achieve could lead to friend requests and maybe the formation of an entirely new clan. Or maybe clans could even use matchmaking to befriend and possibly recruit solo players similar to my situation with Dust. You never know what could happen when you give players those kinds of options. Either way, let us random blueberries make these decisions for ourselves rather than being walled off from entire sections of the game we paid to play.

I mean I think it's time for nightfall matchmaking, though activities like heroic menagerie and raids should for sure not. I don't want to get some random who might not want to talk, barely know what's happening, or just be running a mess of a loadout that in no way contributes or refuses to contribute. Yeah sure, I'll just go in with 6 for those, but for raids in specific sometimes I don't want to. Sometimes I'd like to go kill farm or try to solo for the challenge, but instead I'd get a bunch of random people in with me actually trying to complete the raid and I don't have a choice about that but to just not do it. Add matchmaking to nighfalls and some other small stuff, but harder activities shouldn't get it.

Many have asked for everything to be MM. Though many many more don’t won’t it.

Another idea, they shouldn't force you into any activity to get anything. They could make it fair by making your chances better in Crucible or The World or Gambit or The Raid but you should be able to get anything, anywhere. This would make life so much better for all.

Nightfalls are not difficult, but heroic menagerie definitely needs matchmaking.

Imagine a game 5 years old that requires a team for a ton of things and still uses 3rd party apps to fill these groups? Bungie takes the easiest concepts and makes a shit sandwich. You either eat it or leave..

I can only imagine how horrible raid matchmaking will be. Even LFGing with people on mic gets you blueberries who can't even understand a basic triangle formation for IP. Match made teams cant even understand the relic in the corrupted strike. I'm telling you there are way too many idiots in the playerbase for this to work. It's a waste of resources. Getting a winning raid team through matchmaking would have lower odds than winning the lottery.

I get why raids are excluded, not a fan but I get it. Mechanics can be a -blam!-. However content like Heroic Menagire.. that's just pointless. Literally just locking content down for no reason other than to make it seem exclusive. Any 6 player activity that can be 3 or 2 manned.. no excuse. Should absolutely be included. It's not like it prevent Fireteams or anything.

Until they revamp the Fireteam option so that there are options like vote to kick I will have to disagree. How I would like it is a 4 of 6 members vote to kick a player they will be kicked. This would only be an option outside of encounters ( so no trolling by kicking right as you beat the boss). Matchmaking would also be optional to opt-in or opt-out. However without this option there is no way to get around trolls, jerks and bots in matchmade activities and bots have only become more rampant this season and now with this event.
