SMGs are just purely underperforming in both PvP and PvE. I mention the specific console just in case it matters.
These are just my thoughts but I feel as if the SMGs purpose has not been established yet.
They take more time to shred shields and deal damage to PvE enemies than any other gun type. It ends up just being more of a chore to get the kill than it is for enjoyment.
I would think they are supposed to be CQC killers but are extremely mediocre compared to say, Shotguns or Fusion Rifles. These guns just don’t make you feel “safe” for the lack of a better word.
Too much recoil and sometimes not enough rounds to get the kill. The damage can be atrocious on some guns without certain mods and even then, they tend to do bad in the battlefield.
I really want to use SMGs, I really do..but they are just not as useful compared to everything else in the game.
Simply, SMGs just don’t get the job done.

All they need is larger magazines and significantly less recoil. They already kill faster than everything that isn't an instant kill, sidearm, or Luna's.

1 ReplyThis is the same issue with auto rifles, smgs and some side arms. Time to kill, and or damage per second don't equal up to other options not even to a degree that is "worth while" Damage drop off isnt the issue when damage all together isn't there. The closer you are to a auto rifle, smg and or side arm user should increase its threat value to your foes. When a basic full auto weapon in its ideal range with fill crits still cannot out kill a hand cannon user, nor out flinch it almost every time is a serious issue. I am not saying to buff it to full on win each time, but bring it closer to the Dps and ttk values that when rolled with decent perks make it a worth while option to begin with. In its current state all three of these weapons require more luck then skill and even with skill many players realize quickly they are simply at a disadvantage and will have to either accept they cannot play the way they want without having to accept the burden of having inferior weapon preferences because the current meta(an excuse for shallow weapon diversity and balance) does not include an entire set of apparently neglected weapons that form your basic FPS bread and butter weapons I.e. Full autos and close quarters semi autos (staples since halo was created)

Recoil is a pain though What would you suggest gets changed?
