It’s extremely lame that Bungie told the world that Cayde dies? No sense of exploration or discovery for the player, they just announce that Cayde dies and spoils all fun of experiencing that firsthand.

Yeah, we know cayde dies. But what happened that lead up to his death? What will happen after?
-
6 RepliesI just wish they had let the player kill him and embrace the darkness. Split the guardians into two distinct factions. one for dark and light and let us devour the light.
-
3 RepliesGawd I really hope Gayde-6 really dies, i can’t stand hunters.
-
8 RepliesInterest in the game was plummeting, Bungie needed a big bang to get people talking about it again. Killing off Cayde is the video game equivalent to your ex threatening to cut herself if you don't respond.
-
I agree, it's a bit rubbish that they revealed it in advance, by all means tease that someone might not make it through the story but leave the shock for launch day. On the other hand it's a brilliant way of drawing people in to the dlc
-
But “We all float down here”
-
Only reason I think it's weird is them keeping everything else under key lock. But same time it's how we seek revenge not about a friend dying how will we avenge him and honor his memory

Forsaken = Destiny Community
-
It was the massive hook the forsaken needed. Killing anyone else wouldnt have got any reaction. Very clever marketing
-
3 RepliesWell, youre definitely not the only one they fooled with this 'death' announcement...
-
2 RepliesNo customers. Desperate marketing ploy stinks of desperation. Also if you think Cayde remains dead, you might be mad...
-
I’m sure Cayde-7 will be fine.
-
Yeah, agreed. While I get the desire to build hype for the new dlc, I feel like that moment would have been WAY more impactful if it was unexpected.
-
2 RepliesMarketing dude. Marketing. The artists and marketing people carry that studio.
cough still have never seen a Warframe commercial cough cough better game cough
-
5 RepliesI do Agree. I heard and agree that it may be called a “Red Herring” I believe is the term, which means it’s misleading and will not happen. But after they said the cayde stash will stop happening and the Vanguard will get a new member, I’m not so sure anymore :(
-
It's a marketing ploy. It seems to have worked. Just for the record, Bungie does not care about the story.
-
2 RepliesThey don’t care about developing story. They want people to buy forsaken. To do that they kill everyone’s favorite character so you’d buy forsaken for REVENGE
-
2 RepliesIt's just a marketing trick to make people want to purchase new DLC (preferably in pre-order form) designed specifically to exploit players' emotions. We would want to get revenge, get to the bottom of it, get to check if Cayde can be resurrected at all..
-
Soften the blow? Dramatic twist? Attract attention? A warning to any voice actor that might want a raise?
-
I think the reason to why Cayde is killed off is just as curious to me. If you stand around Cayde in the tower right now randomly Cayde will say that he wants to go back to the reef, we know guardian ships can make it, we went there in Destiny 1. In lore as well, Uldren is the master/leader of the crows who work for the queen who many think, is still alive. Again, in lore it suggests that the queen has met the nine. So maybe there is some future ahead of us that can only happen with the death of Cayde? That or its just some marketing ploy to buy Forsaken.

2 RepliesThe guy that voiced cayde was a dick and acted like he was the boss of everyone. He made some people cry on multiple occasions....so I hear. I bet, if this is true, this is bungie way of getting even. This is just speculation Idk. But In forsaken cayde is voiced by the guy who plays the ghost instead of the original guy who plays cayde 6. Who knows maybe cayde comes back as cayde 7 in D3, voiced by the original guy or by the guy who plays the ghost voice.
-
What? it’s the premise of our revenge story, he dies in the first mission, the expansions being sold as a revenge story.. 🤔
-
They didn’t want to generate a crying fest.
-
It's definitely unorthodox, not many people ( who care about story telling ) would give away a twist like that in a trailer, months before their game comes out. That type of storytelling only works if there is an even bigger twist in the narrative of Forsaken. Since I haven't played Forsaken yet and I don't know where Bungie is going with this story, I can only assume that the Cayde reveal was done out of desperation, Bungie neeeded to do something drastic to get a strong reaction from the community and this is what they came up with.
-
Here’s the thing. We all wanted a darker story. And Lord knows Bungie needs to be as transparent as they can be if they want the haters to build trust in them again. So..they told us how it’ll get darker. Maybe there’s something even bigger than Cayde dying?
