Already have worries about the money grab with Year 2

So... I'm sitting here watching the Twitch stream for the Year 2 reveal of Destiny 2, and I was like... Soooo freaking excited. Sooooo excited all the way through the vid doc and even into the beginning of the actual live stream, but then they introduced this thing called the Annual Pass. I could be overreacting, and that's part of the reason I'm making this post, but it really seems like the Annual Pass is just a new way for Bungie to content block the community and seep you dry of money without actually really giving you any new REAL content. So, is the Annual Pass like the DLC bundle you bought when you first purchased the game, except for the next year of coming DLC's? Or is the Annual Pass a new pay wall that essentially brings a pay-to-win experience into Destiny? The way they talked about it on stream made it seem like the later. Like a way for Bungie to stay afloat because they've been taking hits in their revenue because Destiny 2 and it's subsequent DLC's really didn't hit the mark. If that is the case, I don't think the community should be held accountable for that loss and be responsible for recouping it. So please please please tell me I'm wrong, and teach me a little more about what's really going on. Also, can I get your opinions? I'm interested to hear about everyone's impressions on this. Thanks Guardians, S1R

  • Honestly it just sounds like they're cutting the fat from the mini expansions and only giving us the good stuff. I am a bit bummed that they won't be story heavy. At the same time bungie has never been good at telling a story. Just the lore of this universe. Forsaken seems to be the stepping stone/building blocks for the game. Essentially rebooting the experience if you will. If that actually goes over well then the next 3 smaller dlc's should still be worth grabbing.

    • I am a bit confused with it as well, however. I will look at it like this IF it is like a paid subscription so you can continue to play at the highest level, I am ok with this as I have said many times, if it costs me a bit more money to play a game I enjoy that is full of content, even if that content MUST be paid for aside from the season pass, so be it If it is just another way to explain DLC content, fine by me. What I want is a game to play, a hobby to enjoy and if it costs me a bit more money regularily, does it matter? no. I have played the game from the start and as long as they don't completely tank (yup they have come close this past year) I will continue to support it in any way they need including monetarily so that I can continue to play.

You buy the Pass, you get the DLCs in one bundle without paying again. Same as with the original D2. PS: (Disclaimer) It should be noted I'm not a Bungie employee and have no inside knowledge of the company or its plan moving forward. This is me interpreting the facts presented in the stream.

    • Let’s be honest, you people will be begging for new content in like 4 days after the new dlc drops. I don’t mind paying 30 for three expansions, after all, it was 20 for a crappy one (cough curse cough). Besides, I’ll consider my money well spent the minute I get my hands on that new Sunbreaker hammer. Oh baby...

      • I don't think anyone has the answer right now, and would just give their interpretation of what Deej stated. It's better to just wait to see what the Annual Pass includes, because it's not something we need to purchase right now. Rather wait to see what the $30 covers, instead of giving them money and finding out later.

      • Annual pass is 30 bucks for 3 dlc minus the cutscenes. Honestly seems like a much better deal than 2 small dlc at 20 bucks a piece.

        • It’s probably just like, extra content? Small sized dlc events.

        • I hope the annual pass just replaces dlcs altogether.

        • Of course someone’s going to think they are in a cash grab and what if they are? Why is that bad as long as they do what the community wants, year four is gonna be back to d2 year 1 anyway because everyone will get sick of the ohk weapons everywhere. We get the use a primary meme back. This is great right??? Ttk won’t mean jack now. I personally have always thought that it should be a annual pass or monthly subscription because it is a game that evolves based on the community. There isn’t a way to keep people in jobs cranking out tweaks plus new content without a steady cash flow. That’s business

        • Seems exactly like D1....u pay to play what’s relevant. I doubt anyone is gonna b still trying to play old content after year 2 kicks off. Destiny has pretty much always had a form of a “annual game pass” with TTK and ROI. They’re just now calling it as it is. If year 2 rolls around and nightfall’s are still only 270 light because people refuse to stay with what’s relevant then that’s on them. There’s nothing for them to get at that point unless they have the new content. People who complain about not being able to do activity X because the light level for it raised are just holding back dedicated player who want challenge to meet reward. I say thank god that light level will matter in IB and trials. It shoulda from the start. If you put in the time, why shouldn’t u have the advantage over someone who just picked up the game? It actually gives meaning for us to bring strong gear to PvP

        • I'm hoping its just something that gives pass holders early access to stuff give or take a month before the non holders get it...
