So...
I'm sitting here watching the Twitch stream for the Year 2 reveal of Destiny 2, and I was like... Soooo freaking excited. Sooooo excited all the way through the vid doc and even into the beginning of the actual live stream, but then they introduced this thing called the Annual Pass.
I could be overreacting, and that's part of the reason I'm making this post, but it really seems like the Annual Pass is just a new way for Bungie to content block the community and seep you dry of money without actually really giving you any new REAL content.
So, is the Annual Pass like the DLC bundle you bought when you first purchased the game, except for the next year of coming DLC's? Or is the Annual Pass a new pay wall that essentially brings a pay-to-win experience into Destiny? The way they talked about it on stream made it seem like the later. Like a way for Bungie to stay afloat because they've been taking hits in their revenue because Destiny 2 and it's subsequent DLC's really didn't hit the mark. If that is the case, I don't think the community should be held accountable for that loss and be responsible for recouping it.
So please please please tell me I'm wrong, and teach me a little more about what's really going on.
Also, can I get your opinions? I'm interested to hear about everyone's impressions on this.
Thanks Guardians,
S1R

8 RepliesEdited by FixtusBlack: 6/5/2018 5:47:36 PMThe problem with the annual pass concept, for me, is that Curse of Osiris and Warmind have been such lazy DLCs that they’re asking a lot for me to buy three more sight unseen. Are there still going to be story missions reused as strikes instead of unique strikes? Is the vendor armor going to stay the same again while Tess continues to stock new and interesting things each expansion? Are the campaigns still going to be so short? The upside is that D2 is finally starting to feel right again with the changes they have made over time, so at least these expansion will have a better base to stand on.

Getting an annual pass for content blind when it is Bungie set alarm bells ringing for me They are absolutely milking the $$$$ as much as they can though. Instead of one big game saving expansion it looks to me that we will be getting 3 smaller dlc priced close to a full game. The first of those in September will be great I suspect but what about after that? I still have doubts personally. I now think Destiny 3 will be a base game and monthly subscription. That is where they are heading.

5 RepliesAm I just misinterpreting the stream... Or is the annual pass basically a bundle of expansions that don't have story missions anymore? Seriously lost on all this. For the record, this is $100AU. that brings the total cost up to $250 for 2 years of destiny. These packs need to be SERIOUSLY MASSIVE if I'm about to drop an entire new game worth of cash on something without a story. Is ever verse sticking around? Are there still reg DLC drops?

I know other games do season passes but I never like to buy them because its a blind purchase. I game share and I begrudge buying it but my partner wants to get it so I guess I have no option. The only plus side is that because of game sharing it feels half price and thats all its probably worth.

im not worried about my money anymore, but I be here to enjoy the show

16 Repliessorry - my money stays in my pocket or i‘ll spend it on Fortnite... - no 60 fps in Destiny - NO dedicated servers - no real pve content/story/endgame - garbage pvp gameplay (team shooting) - garbage weapons

You don't have to spend any money to play the updated game. Weapon loadout changes, mod changes, random rolls will be included even if you haven't bought a single dlc. You can play, see how you feel about the changes and make a decision from there
-
It’s just a season pass like you bought for the last two DLC’s
-
1 ReplyShut up and buy these $10 dollar emotes in this $40 dollar DLC as part of this $60 dollar game. Bungie is a poor, starving company - if you don't constantly give them hundreds of dollars every month how will they ever possibly afford to delay their updates year after year?
-
2 Repliesallready feel sorry for the beta testers for year 3. this will end in an never ending chaos. so glad i am unistalling it and will not pre order.
-
tbh, it sounded like you don‘t need the 3 mini DLCs at all. They are something little extra for the players who want more but I doubt they will lock you out for any kind of event or so beyond Forsaken. They are just small things like Mass Effects new characters, which involved the character for your squad, a small sidequest, and a few new guns. Just a little thing if you actually wanted more. Nothing special. And 3 DLCs from the pass sound just like that.

4 RepliesThis is for sure a cash grab. $170 They are charging people full price again for a game theyve been "fixing" for an entire year. This is them making us pay for their mistakes...that takes balls. The new bungie base, the one they are hoping will grow is the "I'll gladly throw money at the screen" base. Can't wait for rare engrams to be decrypted for .99, legendary 1.99 and exotics for 2.99 because I'm not an entitled crybaby millennial and being taken advantage of and keeping quiet about it is the tough thing to do!

To me, money is almost no object if the game is terrific enough. If D2 is a great game in September, then I won't have problem investing in it.

2 RepliesNot even close to a pay to win concept. This is just a normal pay for new content that just about every AAA multiplayer game uses. It's just a new way of delivering it. First we paid for each expansion, then they started offering season passes, and now bungie is going to try something called annual pass. I don't think you can judge by the concept but only by what they end up bringing. And I honestly believe that their gonna set thing right or at least on a much better path. I think it's also why bungie had kept so quite, cause they knew they had to rethink the whole thing. But we will see later how they do. As far as the cost of all this goes, has D2 been great... no. But it wasn't a rip off, it's just not what everyone wanted or expected. We all spend so much time in a game like this that the cost becomes an incredible value for entertainment. Why should Bungie not get paid for what they make? Take a look at Star Citezen. They have a ship pack that costs 27,000$. And just to view it's contents in game you must have spent 1,000$ in the game already. I can't even comprehend this cost. https://www.pcgamer.com/new-star-citizen-ship-pack-unlocks-nearly-every-vessel-in-the-game-for-dollar27000/ So Bungie wants 70$ for a years worth of some time of content. No prpblem.

If we’ve learned anything about what they said about the annual pass it’s cinematics and storytelling are just to hard for bungie. To be replaced with walls of text and people talking at you through your ghost

1 ReplyEdited by CatMan: 6/6/2018 3:15:26 AMWe don't know what the AP is Lol it's the same amount of money as that iB emote...if people considering buying...keep that in mind We don't have to buy the dlc or the AP. You are free as of now. Sky's the limit, no need to be mad because you haven't paid for anything. So why is it that time of the month for every rager?
-
When are people going to realize season passes are never a good idea to buy
-
The annual pass is an all in one expansion pack for y2 after the forsaken. Is it worth it? Idk. You may want to wait until closer until winter 2018.
-
Pretty sure it's a cash grab. The way things have been going lately it's hard to give Bungie the benefit of the doubt on this one. It's like someone over in HQ has hit the "we're not making enough money" panic button.....repeatedly...in rapid and frantic motions.
-
You know a game is dry....... when a DLC just dropped and you're already talking about the next one.
-
Edited by SpinnerOES: 6/6/2018 2:07:50 AMOr, we can do what is sensible and not pay for any "Season or Annual" Pass, and wait for the content to release and be reviewed before purchasing it. I really not understanding how that concept is hard to grasp.
-
21 RepliesEdited by Unforgiven: 6/5/2018 9:57:14 PMBungie have 1000 mouths to feed.. making games costs money... Learn to deal with it if you want content. I am glad they are doing it.. That is how they will cover development cost. I large pizza and salad and desert and drinks costs $40 and is gone in less than a day. I feel thsi Annual pass will be worth the money.
-
2 RepliesWe have to buy Osiris and Warmind to even play Forsaken... there goes my hype. Forcing us to pay them more money for a D1 Y3 experience...
-
7 RepliesSo, since their going with random rolls, what does that mean for the weapons we have now? Are they gonna do what they did in D1, and make all our current weapons obsolete?
-
1 ReplyDidn’t do it for me. Glad it did it for other people. Triple shotguns? Hmmmm
-
2 RepliesYou can look up the product description and to summarize it basically adds more loot, new activities, and new lore. Their will be no campaign, and most likely no raid as they only mention new game challenges which could mean anything and i doubt it will be a raid for 10$. So I basically told you everything you need to know and as an example its like an overwatch update but its not free (10$ each season).
