So...
I'm sitting here watching the Twitch stream for the Year 2 reveal of Destiny 2, and I was like... Soooo freaking excited. Sooooo excited all the way through the vid doc and even into the beginning of the actual live stream, but then they introduced this thing called the Annual Pass.
I could be overreacting, and that's part of the reason I'm making this post, but it really seems like the Annual Pass is just a new way for Bungie to content block the community and seep you dry of money without actually really giving you any new REAL content.
So, is the Annual Pass like the DLC bundle you bought when you first purchased the game, except for the next year of coming DLC's? Or is the Annual Pass a new pay wall that essentially brings a pay-to-win experience into Destiny? The way they talked about it on stream made it seem like the later. Like a way for Bungie to stay afloat because they've been taking hits in their revenue because Destiny 2 and it's subsequent DLC's really didn't hit the mark. If that is the case, I don't think the community should be held accountable for that loss and be responsible for recouping it.
So please please please tell me I'm wrong, and teach me a little more about what's really going on.
Also, can I get your opinions? I'm interested to hear about everyone's impressions on this.
Thanks Guardians,
S1R

They’ve lost a lot. It sounds like recouping. It sounds as if they’re putting it on players still here to pay.

I could buy a brand new game such as God of War or something. A full new game instead of just added content which more than half of the stuff should've already been there. No thanks Bungie. I'm not trying to get screwed again. Plus there will be no new story campaign or cutscenes for the Annual Pass content. You guys are screwing yourselves over. Haven't you guys made enough money already.

I don't think the Annual Pass is anything to be too worried about. It appears to be Bungie's attempt at providing a drip feed of content to the more hardcore players to avoid the content drought we saw at that point during D1's life. I can't see it as being worth the money or doing very well and I can't see them putting very much content in them. They've already said that the content drops won't have cut scenes so they won't be anywhere near the size of a standard DLC. I think it'll be something for streamers and youtubers to play to keep D2 relevant during the year where they won't be dropping actual DLC's and regular players most likely won't miss out on anything.

At first glance, it seemed that they were trying to make up for the torture of playing this game in year 1. I bought the game, and the Season Pass, After they were available, and the responses from everyone were that they were fun but shallow, and not on par with how Destiny 1 ended. I assumed that Bungie knew what they were doing. Now that we have all of the Season pass content for year 1, Nobody should be buying the Annual Pass. Honestly, look at the quality of the product you have in your possession. Hollow... its like that 3 foot tall Chocolate Rabbit you got on Easter as a child. You saw it across the room, and crossed your fingers that it weighed 15 lbs. Alas, it wasn't even a single pound of chocolate... Hollow, filled with hype. Now with year 2, poised to raise some eyebrows of furrowed faces, the first thing people want to know, is "How Much is this going to cost me?" If the answer was simple, and reasonable, you would have the floor to WOW us. Instead they roll out some ridiculous pricing scam, (including a discount for buying it sight-unseen) which sounds like it includes parts of the game it does not. FIRSTLY, You need to own the BASE game. (~$20 at the moment) Secondly, You need to own the YEAR 1 Content... There is no option to add on YEAR 2 without it. Third, You need to buy the YEAR 2 EXPANSION... The above purchases are REQUIREMENTS to play Year 2 Destiny 2... Sounds pretty expensive for a game who's fanbase are already upset... Why would anyone want to jump in at that point? For people that already Dumped over $100 into the game, You need to buy another Expansion... For the people that are bad at reading, there is an YEARLY EXPANSION PASS that is currently for sale via Pre-order, for $35. ****THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY OF THE CONTENT REQUIRED TO PLAY THIS GAME**** The Year 2 Expansion and the Year 2 Expansion PASS, are separate purchases. How is this supposed to make people feel better, when we can play the game that bungie told us was going to be VASTLY improved, and we believed them. The game we have now, is in desperate need of a digital form of apology. If you want us to support your company with our wallets, support our addiction with a shoe horn. I will gladly throw $40 at the screen for an annual pass, if it includes the Year 2 upgrade. $40 for another year hoping this game can grasp the feeling the original game once did? not a problem. The Problem is, asking $70-80 from people that already feel ripped off. (I expected enjoyment on par with Destiny 1, Not what we have.)

2 RepliesYep...the Annual pass smacks of money grab. I am very concerned. As much as I want to be hyped I am not going to fall for this again. Will be at least 3-4 weeks after it's launched and I see reviews before I decide this time.

1 ReplyYear 3 will have - Lootboxes (Eververse) - Season Pass - Annual Pass And you need to pay 10 cent to start any activity ^^

35 RepliesEdited by AT_Safijiiva: 6/6/2018 2:17:52 PMAfter how disappointing the expansion pass + game was. I simply don't trust Bungie enough to give them £60/£70 in advance on the promise of a year's worth of content. *Edit updated prices UK Psn.

1 ReplyThey announced this before E3 because they know that nobody will care then. Yeah the next dlc looks good but it baffles me that they can't -blam!-ing bother to create a new race and we will still fight reskinned fallen

I thought the additions to the game look solid. However, and this is a big however, I won't be purchasing the Forsaken because it requires me to also purchase two lackluster DLCs (Osiris and Warmind) for which I have no interest. Linking those items together is a mistake. I'm also very wary of the "Annual Pass" concept...it smells of a new way for Bungie to make lots of little addition while still taking DLC money. The additional lore is enticing but will take a wait and see approach to see how it pans out first before taking out my wallet.
-
Forsaken should be included in year 2 pass and the year one dlc should be free for bungies fu#k ups.
-
It was a clear money grab when they announced two different transactions, the DLC and Annual Pass. Clearly not worth it already to me.

2 RepliesEdited by THUNDERCHILD: 6/6/2018 2:56:43 PMYeah.... had the main team been pulled off of d3 to make these features happen in the first 2 or 3 months after launch to fix their bad product i would have been more impressed. It does look good. It really does, but the real question is this: after not playing for six months, do i care enough any more to pay for this? For the price of a whole new game, i'm leaning tword absolutely not. This is how D2 should have launched, why should i pay twice the cost of any other game for what should have been standard out of the box. It makes me sick.

The annual pass is strictly for events. You get no dlc with it. Which raises the questions, will there even be dlc next year? How much will that be? How much content will be with this dlc and upcoming dlc since the annual pass will be the content between dlcs? Eververse was sold to the player base as the way to fund live content and events... of which we have seen only two since d2 released and they were downgraded versions of what we had in d1... Bottom line, activision had 3 cods with 3 $50 passes in the same time d1 existed... and they want their money. That is $330 vs $180 per possible person with those two franchises in the 3 year window... activision is like, nope... we need more income from the destiny franchise. Bungie is also trying to become their own independent developing company.. so they need more money to make the other game they just made a deal for. More employees etc.. It’s a hard pill to swallow for sure. Especially over the fact that bungies “live team” has been a joke and non existent for the players.
-
3 RepliesAre they kidding!? Now there's an annual pass for things like sparrow racing or the dawning? Which before we never paid for. Oh what lies! Remember when they said oh don't worry guys Eververse is there to fund the live team and events. What happened to that! No way no more I'm done with this BS.
-
1 ReplyAll Year 2 content should be free, and come with a personalized apology video from Luke Smith, who we haven't seen since D2 launched.

Pay to win=/=pay to play I do see your concern though

I'm really cautious about the September expansion. I dont want at this point for me to get hyped and end up disappointed when I play the expansion and realize it wasn't all it was hyped up for in the trailers etc. I

25 RepliesHere's my take: Bungie has disappointed a lot of fans with D2. A LOT. And the fact that they are basically changing everything to be more like D1 is admittance of how badly they screwed up. So in order to get people re-excited about the game, and franchise, and Bungie itself, why don't they stop trying to nickel and dime us at every turn? I'm saying this as a businessperson. I used to work at a steak and hoagie shop while in college. If we screwed up someone's order, we REPLACED the food that was made, for free! We did this knowing that the patron was expecting one thing when they bought our product and we did not deliver to those expectations. We also wanted to keep this person as a customer in the future. We would never say, "Sorry we screwed up your order, but if you buy another cheesesteak we probably won't screw that one up. Also, since we just screwed up your last order, I'd like to let you know that you can pre-order your next three cheesesteaks for the price of two and a half cheesesteaks. Please buy our product because it's super good, except for that bad one we sold you." i just don't feel like Bungie operates in the real world. That, or gamers don't hold huge AAA gaming companies to the same standards as hoagie shops.

6 RepliesMoney grab? What is wrong with a company trying to make money? I'm sure you don't complain when you get a raise or a paycheck. There are people who claim that Destiny as a game may not solvent (not sure how true it is). Yet people want to complain about their money. Don't even bring Activision's money into this. It's not how their partnership works.

I think it's being sold as a bundle in order to keep them all together. They have had huge problems trying to separate owners of different content. You can already see them start to alleviate this with the free pvp maps regardless of expansion ownership. As of right now they have the following people to separate by ownership: Base Game Only Base Game and COO Base Game and Warmind Base Game and COO and Warmind Adding even one more expansion without stipulation would have added: Base Game and Forsaken Base Game and COO and Forsaken Base Game and Warmind and Forsaken Base Game and COO and Warmind and Forsaken Adding more expansions adds exponential content walls, so these requirements are an attempt to mitigate this.

Bungie? Lie about something? No, never, not them. Oh wait, what’s this? https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/13672/7_Introducing-Eververse-Trading-Company
