There are also problems with the mechanics of buying, why do i have to claim engrams for 10 tokens each, to unlock an armor piece for 10 tokens value.
Then you have ikora with only 3 quests weekly and she gives me 3 per each i mean i would have to play with 3 characters weekly to unlock a viable way for 2 engrams on 1 character. It's not cohesive enough, either give me 5 per quest or make the value of an armor piece reduce to 3 or 5.
The overall system of getting and buying works ok, the problem is the amount of currency you have:
EDZ, Titan, Io, Nessus, Mercury, Raid, Trials, Vanguard, Shaxx, Saladin, Ikora, Factions (3), then Bright Dust, Legendary Shards and Glimmer.
The last is useless only for re using purposes, when you understand that The Gunsmith can get you the weapons of all those planetary vendors then it renders their loot pool access useless, same thing with Rahool and Cayde (flashpoint) and Soraya (Clan engrams) but also all the vendors share the same loot pool which again makes the token chase a waste of time.
The solution, if we have to retain this system, is to reduce the currency to say 1 general token for zavala, shaxx, planets and ikora, 1 for raid, 1 for trial and 1 for IB, then instead of 8 dif currencies you only have 4 at most, then make the shards a resource like weapon parts and the bright dust the only out of game/in game currency.
The problem isn’t the tokens. It’s the loot. The token system is better than ranking up individual characters by playing said character in D1. Even if we reverted back to the D1 system you’d still get the same boring loot over and over again... Sorry but you’re wrong.
They are repetitive, alleviate any sense of progression, and just don't feel rewarding. I made a post on this earlier. Look, I'm not saying that the reputation system is perfect, but the token system is a downgrade. I want Bungie to be creative, give us points or maybe get rid of reward systems altogether. Place all rewards in bounties. I don't know, just something better.
Tokens are a physical representation of the exact same progression we had in D1. The only difference is there's not a number floating above the square representing the vendor faction when you turn them in that goes up and there are in fact more avenues to earn reputation for more vendors.
Also they've already mentioned bounties are coming. And guess what? We'll probably get tokens for them that again are just physical representations of the same reputation progression we got in D1 from bounties.
