Some questions for the Bungie.net community before the Destiny Community Summit

Bungie are holding their Destiny Community Summit in a couple weeks and as everyone knows, there will be a contingent of players there to give not only give feedback, but also to hopefully improve the community/dev relationship and how we interact and give/receive feedback. There is a lot of skepticism and speculation that this is only about streamers and getting people to stream the game again. I can tell you for a fact this is not the case. It 100% could be a hoped for byproduct, but the primary goal is to make Destiny 2 the game players want. I understand that skepticism because if I didn't know better, I would probably feel the same way. What I do know is that it's not only big name streamers going. They're the ones people have heard are going simply because they are highly visible. I have had a lot of issues with the way Bungie have approached the game and communicating with us (particularly here on bnet) in the past and more recently I've had a lot of issues with the way we as a community treat the developers and the toxicity of the feedback. All that said, nothing changes what is past but we still can make our tomorrow's better. This goes to Destiny 2 as well. Whether you liked or hated it, nothing will change what the game was at launch, but everyday is another chance to make it better for everyone. To this end I would like to ask both those players who've left and those who still play what it is that you like or liked about the Destiny franchise and what you would like to see going forward, not just in D2 but into the future beyond as well. I ask that people please really give honest heartfelt responses and keep the vitriol out of the post. For both those who left and those who still play, I would like to hear what drew you to the universe and the top 2-3 things you'd like to see brought to the game or improved. For those who've left, what was the main reason you stopped playing? For those who still play, what do you enjoy most that keeps you playing? This is a real opportunity to build towards a better future for the game and even though it's only so many voices that can be in the room, those who can't be there still deserve a voice too. • "I understand that skepticism because if I didn't know better, I would probably feel the same way." How can you know better than the rest of us? is there something you have been told that we have not?

  • They said lore lovers were invited. Come to find out that wasn't true. They finally invited myelan games after being called out on it. So if I'm really skeptical you can see why. My thoughts were that Fortnite has really cut into the amount of people streaming destiny PvP and that's what they're trying to fix. So here's my question I'd like asked. Does Bungie see Destiny as more if a competitive FPS or more of a RPG with deep lore and immersive world. I thought Destiny had potential to be a great RPG. But that doesn't seem to be the focus. The focus has always been PvP not pve. I recently started playing Bloodborne. It's great I love it. You see Bungie needs to choose. Because right now pve and PvP players alike are going elsewhere. Pick one and make it awesome. Also let players know which direction you're going in. Because right now trying to shoehorn pve and PvP together just leads to both being pretty lackluster. I think that's evident as people go off and play games like Fortnite or Monster Hunter. These games know their audience and focus on what they want. They don't say we know you like x but we're throwing in a little of y too. Oh and by the way yes x and y may be holding each other back but that's just balance.
This is a real opportunity to build towards a better future for the game and even though it's only so many voices that can be in the room, those who can't be there still deserve a voice too.
Nothing personal, just an opinion. And, your post belongs in the feedback forum You been saying this for a long time and Nothing has changed in the last couple years. The community has been giving feedback for years and Only the small petty things were mainly listened to. Example... Gamers ask for strike specific loot. What does that actually mean knowing D1's loot table in nightfall. I mean, correct me if i'm wrong. Did the community only just ask for cosmetics and said that is all we want? Bungie translated all the feedback since the day D2 released to, oh, you just want more cosmetics. I really would like to know how (Random Rolls) or even asking for unique rewards was perceived that the community just wanted useless items. That is just one example out of the many this company has gotten so wrong. 3 years of D1, 3 years of feedback and 2 wish list. Am I missing something here? What does feedback actually mean. From what I understand it's a form of communication between 2 people usually having a conversation that goes both ways. Not just one way... This means if the company is asking for feedback and streamers are their main concern on inviting people to give feedback that mainly focuse on PvP and knowing close to 3 million have dropped this game. How does that benefit the lower people on the totem pole and PVE gamers that have been IGNORED 95% of the time? Nothing personal, and this is not an insult or anything some would like to twist this to be. But you do not speak for this entire community. The communities feedback is All Over This Entire Forum and if Bungie can't comprehend what is being asked for after all this years. They got some major issues. What Bungie doesn't want the new gamers to know. This isn't for them. This is only for Bungie to get their quota for the next DLC because how much the player base had dropped. They have Never done anything like this as far as being legit on wanting our actual feedback. This was their attempt back in D1. Here I thought this was going to be a legit survey. No, they were more concerned about gamers dropping from the game then getting actual feedback. https://www.gamespot.com/articles/why-did-you-stop-playing-destiny-bungie-reportedly/1100-6434469/

    • You sold out buddy. Enjoy your stay in Seattle. Maybe when the dog and pony show is over, you can do something that's actually worthwhile like catching a live show at Central Saloon, watching a Sounders FC match, or enjoying a pint of Guinness at the Kells. The problem with the game is its leadership. Until that changes Bungie is persona non grata.

What was their vision for the life time of D2, before the uproar caused them to try and finagle pieces of D1 into D2? And if they are not planning on separating PVE and PVP sandboxes for D3, how do they plan on not repeating this whole D2 fiasco without just releasing a more polished D1?

I have no doubt that you were invited. Personally, I don’t trust you to accurately convey community feedback and sentiment. Hopefully other community members that are more in touch with the community have been invited as well.

1st thing that MUST happen is getting rid of the entire management team that brought all this on themselves. Then and only then will I personally ever spend a cent or speak with Bungie or Activision again. Otherwise, nothing will change.. I know lip service when I see it, I am not an unknowing, unrefined kid. I also recognize rip-offs.

Probably going to be a long post so I'll try to break my thoughts down into segments. History with the game I am a week one player from D1. I am a clan founder, raid sherpa, mediocre crucible player and probably close to 4000 hrs played in D1 and D2 combined. I also have played games like Warframe, The Division, Borderlands, Diablo, Mass Effect, and Final Fantasy series. So obviously I leanore PvE than PvP but I cut my teeth in the crucible and understand the importance of it in this franchise. I understand the need for balances between both and will do my best to keep that in mind with the following ideas and thoughts. Loot pt. 1 Armor This seems to be the easiest place to make meaningful changes to loot in the game. Mostly because armor has become mostly a cosmetic choice rather than enabling any meaningful gameplay changes or granting player power fantasy changes. This is a game of cosmic bad asses and space magic, why can't our armor do something for us? My first idea is to go towards anset bonus system. Similar to Diablo, Division, MHW or any number of other games. We have planet specific sets, faction specific sets, PvP specific sets, raid etc etc... So why not have bonuses for wearing certain number of peices for that set that get increasingly more powerful the more that you have equipped. This is a really fun way to grant player power fantasy and make completing sets meaningful which grants a level of grind to the game. With balance in mind, you can grant pve specific set bonuses unless they are for IB, Trials or crucible faction sets. Raid sets should be the pinnacle sets with the most powerful bonuses and as such, they shouldn't be given out like candy. Making exotic armor more powerful without breaking PvP can be a challenge but if you implememt powerful set bonuses then you'll have to up the game of exotic armor to make them appealing in lie of a set piece. Random rolls on armor wouldn't be as important as for weapons because the set bonuses would be the appeal. However, you could make the R,R,M stats random so that you could customize your set a little more personal. Loot pt. 2 Weapons Weapons are a little more simple but maybe also more complicated in ways because of the lack of top tier perks on weapons currently. Random rolls would help in short term giving us a way to get a weapon we like personally with a top tier perk. However, I think we need ways to progress a weapon over time to make it more powerful and personal. Say you like a certain perk but you had to work towards unlocking perks on your weapon via number of kills, enemy types, game mode completions etc etc.. Mostly though, we need a lot more perks and a lot less perks that suck. Period. For balance, you can certainly make some perks pve specific so as not to break crucible but at the same time, we need strong perks in PvP too just not game breaking ones. Loot pt 3 Other stuff Mods. Make them strong, make a ton of them and make some rare, exotic and meaningful. That is all. Where did our relics go? Why can't our ghosts do anything but scan something or crack wise jokes? Why not have auras that do something more than just grant a visual for your character. Just some small things that could give us some utility in simple items that give is incentive to care about which ones we have equipped. Activities Lost sectors should be much more challenging but not to the point that a solo player couldn't work through it with some skill and patience. I'm thinking of something like a strike boss with mechanics involved to defeat them. Give each sector a boss with specific loot and maybe an exotic tied to them at a rare drop rate. Give them a weekly lockout and have a featured planet (flashpoint) have increased drop rates but also modifiers to spice things up. Strikes just need more of them which will happen over time. They could also add more specific loot. Maybe Nightfall loot tables and heroic tables. But more than one item per strike and less meaningless stuff like sparrows and ghosts. Give us a horde mode. Please Sparrow racing was fun. Just saying Raids are I'm a good place and will only get better with improved loot, and improved progression/incentive. I want less of the raid lairs, although they are fun, but more raids that feel difficult, puzzling and rewarding. Progression Seasonal progression could be better. You want to make players feel like it's important to achieve milestones each season. Give them something cool that can only be earned each season. This can be cosmetic but also something that does look so bad ass that other players feel like they missed out on something cool. Factions could have seasonal or just a flat progression system that grants access to items all of the time and not just during faction rallies. Faction rallies need to be bigger, more grand and encompassing more game modes, especially PvP. Matchmake with players only in your faction and against other factions for start. PvP Game modes. More of them and our choice of exactly which mode we want to play. I know player population isn't good right now (especially on PC like myself) but restricting game modes to a random set of modes ifnt helping things because some of us hate certain modes and are less likely to play if it means we get that mode half of the time. We need rift back, we need doubles or skirmish back for small groups. We also need elimination back. I think trials was much better as 3v3 elimination but that's just me and maybe not popular. I think the go fast update did a good job of balancing the weapon types but ttk could be faster for more fun game play. I know ranked PvP is coming so we will have to wait and see how that works and if it needs changing. What made Destiny 1 so popular was in part due to the exceptional players that crested YouTube and twitch content with skill. The skill gap needs to be adjusted to give players with skill, a reason to play and show it off. Stop worrying about the casuals as much and let the gods of PvP eat. I'm not great but I played a ton in D1 because it was fun and I felt like I was improving the more I played. That feeling isn't there in D2 as much. Some of this could be achieved with weapon slot changes which I'll discuss next. Weapon slot changes I understand that we shouldn't look backwards to D1 too much if we want to improve the game but this weapon system has hurt D2 maybe in more ways than any other single issue. It made pve content less fun by adding a false layer of difficulty via lack of power ammo and also via removing a really strong slot so that we could have an elemental primary. Primaries in D1 were for killing ads and red bars. Not bosses. I want my sniper along with a rocket or sword. Make difficulty based on mechanics and not based on ammo restrictions and lack of total power output This is not to say that we need to go straight back to D1. I'm sure there is a compromise.

In my opinion, this "summit" is done to hype those invited with flashy "gamplay" trailers in the hopes to send em home hyping the future of the game to their viewers. The DLC will be done and ready by the time this event is held anyhow. I do have two question for you to ask over there though. -Who's idea was it to scrap the whole concept and system of Destiny Y3 in favor of a completely new game, disregarding every improvement made to D1 over 3 years? (Yes D1 had issues aswell...) - Is the person responsible still employed by Bungie, still working on this title?

I simply don't see anything changing. If this community summit is so important then why don't they stream it? Since it's supposed to be about the community I would have thought they'd want to share it WITH the community. It's pretty obvious now just how much they've messed everything up. Bungie seriously needs to earn back the trust of its fanbase. A closed doors so-called summit isn't going to help. I know what's going to happen. People will come back singing praise to Bungie and how great the expansion will be. They did it with D2 and CoO. We'll get the expansion and run into the exact same problem as we've had the last 4 years. Promises that far exceed reality. I simply haven't got the faith anymore that they'll do Destiny justice. I defended D1 till I was blue in the face and it just irks me so badly just how much I dislike D2. I was a fanboy - I lived and breathed D1. I just refuse to be letdown yet again.

          • I preordered the digital deluxe version, I haven’t even touched the first DLC, even though I already paid for it. The reasons why I left are 1. The weapon loadout is boring. 2. There is no reason to try and get better armor because it doesn’t exist. 3. Our characters move like they waist deep in mud. 4. No exotics feel exotic. 5. Nothing to search for (ghosts, fragments etc.) 6. The long, long time it takes for your abilities to recharge. 7. The lack of heavy ammo and how little of it you can carry. 8. The Halo wannabe crucible..soooo boring. 9. The Raid is boring and there is no reason to even play it in the first place. I can keep going but I will make it short. I played D1 everyday, and I still play it. Started a clan with all kinds of players and there was ALWAYS more than a couple people on.....Now....no one

            • The game is not fun. Pve is pointless. The narrative is garbage without a dynamic protagonist. The raid blows. Movement is too slow. Abilities are weak and slow. Pve is slow. Ttk is too long. Movement is slow. Gameplay is anemic. It’s not fun or rewarding. The game is garbage.

              • Not for nothing Sols, and let me preface thiswith regardless of my personal opinion of you, and appreciatively respecting the time and effort you spent writing this. 1: just as a clarification, were you invited. 2: If so, why? 3: And in all honesty, what is it that you or any other " content creator " can hope to convey to Bungie that has not been said 1000 different times in 1000 different ways any better than a concerted pass through of any relevant social media platform. This is why it smacks of a p.r grab. You stated that it was 100% not, how would you know? Were you privy to the strategy session were employee A presented it to the higher ups. From the outside looking at it objectively, it sure as hell looks like an attempt to get "content creators" and there however many viewers and subscribers back into the fold. In "fact" it's blatantly obvious that this is a way to circumvent the usual one month before dlc reveal stream that usually would take place. And i can see why they would have to find a new route to peoples wallets, since people seem to have caught on to the bungie s.o.p In summary, you've have been told something by bungie, so Sols, ..tell us

Since when you empower yourselves here to protect a forum member from being criticized or not agreed with and BAN persons then? This is nothing more then a pr hype ( mark my words ) You do realise that if they continue to mess this game further up, YOU people who are invited wil b hold responsable for that by the community......... right ????

Bro, the community has already stated the things that they want, like and dislike numerous times. Its been exhausted. Many people have created detailed, thought out and intelligent lists. Bungie doesn't need a "Destiny 2 summit", which is a transparent and disingenuous attempt to create "good will" between its disappearing /disappointed player base. All they have to do is read their forums, twitter accounts and reddit to find their answers. Pretty simple. But "we're listening", right?

It’s not rocket surgery, it shouldn’t take a summit to figure this out. That’s why everyone is saying it’s just business meeting to discuss marketing DLC2

Sols, I feel my feedback as an individual means nothing to a company like Bungie, and I've tried... But, for what it's worth... I was expecting (like many others) a continuation of D1's story and character progression. I was expecting more of the same, plus new things like: - New enemies - New subclasses and or abilities - The continuation of what made D1 great from a PvE perspective Obviously new weapons, armor... Loot in general, but more of the same but different. Now that right there could be misconstrued as what we've been given, but what I'm talking about is the continuation of "special" feeling weapons like VoC, Fatebringer, Burning Eye, DIS-43, Gjally, Spindle, Sleeper... The list goes on and on. Armor and weapons that gave you perks against enemy types. I expected new foes not reskins. The feelings you got from your first VoG, CE, Skolas, KF, WoTM... The hero moments in raids with the Aegis, the Sword, Running at Oryx, Popping weapons of light and swinging for the hills with Dark Drinker. For PvE to be separate from PvP. To have all of those things but with better graphics and the story to continue. I didn't expect tokens, emblems to be "end game" rewards. I didn't expect the loot pool to be as shallow as it is. I didn't expect raid revive tokens. I didn't expect secondaries from D1 to become power weapons in D2. I expected a darker tone. I expected to have to raid to get to max power level. I expected the continuation of subclass and stat tuning (that tier 12 chase). I didn't necessarily expect more complex subclasses etc, just a shift to something new and exciting but still familiar. I expected all of the quality of life improvements from D1 to be in the base game for D2. I didn't expect redundant economies like what Legendary Shards were to ever be a thing. I expected bigger and badder missions and raids. I expected community driven secret quests to be uncovered and solved ala Outbreak Prime, Spindle, Simulant... I miss the times with my clan watching Dave continually get shit on in the "penis room". I miss not getting teleported and 3 guys who normally don't run relic get sent and no-one picking it up hearing "I don't know how to do it"... "Everybody wipe". I miss not being the go-to guy for Swordbearer. I miss not clutching an Oryx clear with 4 people. I miss the badass exotics that made you feel like you owned the raids. I miss those kind of moments that just aren't there in D2. I miss the thrill of anticipation for Xûr, the weekly reset to begin the next weekly challenge. I miss the status of having "that weapon" or "that emblem" that you were either lucky enough to get, or worked long enough on to earn. It's hard to articulate these things over text... There are so many things swirling around in my head, that as I think of one thing, something else pops into my train of thought. I miss my clan who no longer plays anymore. I miss Destiny.

                      • They didn't build on what was good about D1, implementing changes that weren't asked for or even warranted. I won't give examples, pretty much all of them have been listed ad infinitum, I'm sure you get the picture. The evercash absurdity & abject snoozefest that is the crucible, boring exotics & the over use of cosmetic rewards led to my uninstalling of the game. I won't be back for the next DLC either (even though I stupidly paid up front) as nothing I've seen from Bungie so far convinces me they deserve yet another chance.

                      • As i've already said in reply to another post similar to this, Bungie knows what we want and what's wrong with the game, do you honestly think that there will enough time to implement changes asked for by streamers at this 'summit' to be ready for the next update/DLC? No - is the answer. The streamers feedback on these changes mean very little - it'll all be DLC hype and selected edited game play reels.

Sols, I appreciate this effort you have put across here, but I can’t help but think of this one factor. That is, after all the BS that you put this community through for roughly the last year, why should we trust you to relay our thoughts and feelings? I mean even you would have to admit you would feel the same way given circumstances if they were reversed. So why should I trust you to hear what it is I have to say, and you to relay my thoughts and feelings? Before I even consider giving my feedback, I need you to at least answer that question. Because to me, as of right now too many bridges have been burned between us for me to just blindly trust you. Rather, with this community as a whole. Thank you in advance. -LK

                      • I started playing again with the recent update only in small amounts. I was a big follower of the #Remove Eververse and I have been a fan of Bungie since Halo and loved Destiny 1. I stopped playing D2 around the Dawning. After the constant lies about throttling EXP and faction rewards, after watching them leave the Nova Bomb glitch in Mayhem, removing what seemed to be the best parts of the game to sell them back to us in each DLC. Don't get me wrong. I like playing D2 from time to time but it is no where near as magical as it was during Destiny 1. Bungie soured the game experience for me with their lies and actions and honestly they have lost my trust forever. That doesn't mean that I won't play the game it means that I will always expect the worst most lazy excuse and cash grab practices from them because they prove time and time again that this is the route they wish to take. They stripped the game of its easy re-play ability by removing random rolls. Made PVP less fun in favor of cries of balance from PVP Streamers and try hard sweat players yet we still have 1-2 guns that outshine all other guns in every class of weapon out of the hundreds if not thousands of guns in game. They took away all our favorite exotics and use them for selling points each new DLC. Miss Ice Breaker? Well don't worry it will be back in the next expansion make sure to buy it!!!!! Everything I enjoyed about they game they took away form D2 in hopes to sell it back to me each DLC instead of actually coming up with something new and original. Most guns if not all are nothing but reskins, armor has no purpose, and they locked a lot of the endgame loot we used to grind for from faction rep like ships shaders and sparrows as random slot machine boxes that may or may not give me that 1-2 items I'm looking for and if RNG is not kind I guess I will have to grind hours on the game or spend real life money on them which is what their goal was in the first place. Destiny 2 is in this position because they put Cash before player and thought we were too dumb to realize that is what they were doing. If anyone tells you differently they are lying and covering Bungie's ass much like you do on these forums.
For those who still play, what do you enjoy most that keeps you playing?
Strikes and nightfalls. The loot needs to be improved for these though. The latest nightfall ghost is worse than a legendary one I have. Edit: downvoted immediately, maybe I'm wrong and some people consider the loot OK then...?

I just hope you have the courage to give them criticism and constructive feedback. D1 depth, loot and power fantasy should be bare minimum. Double primary has to go, for example. Don’t let the event become an echo chamber of status quo thought.
