Genuinely curious because I could be wrong, but the point seems to be for me at least, to play the actual game and have fun. What I see on these forums seems to be that people don't care about actually playing the game, they just want prizes.
This isn't to say that drops and new gear aren't cool or fun, but for 3 years of Destiny one I played Crucible for the activity itself, not the drops. D2 is the same, I have the weapons I want and I'm not looking to replace them, I'm looking to have things to do with them which there are, particularly in a week like IB.
Been playing shooters since GoldenEye. There were no prizes for victory in GoldenEye. Halo... No prizes for victory. The point was the activity. Did that change and I missed something?
I get Destiny 2 PvP can be better, but it's still better than any other shooter I've played outside of Y1 D1. At some point is it possible for people to just have fun?

Never played D1 or D2 for pvp. I was forced into it to complete exotic quests and that’s about it. I played both games for pve. D1 far more then D2. Don’t like the Calus raid and was so disappointed with the raid mechanics is general I never even tried out eater of worlds. I play tf2 and swbf2 for pvp. I find them fun, but that’s my opinion and everyone has their own. Those that still find D2 fun I have nothing against. It’s just not for me.

I'm starting to believe this is a generational issue. Back in the day we played to play. If you beat Mario Bros you went back to see how fast you could do it again rinse repeat. My younger friends and clanmates who stopped playing D2 universally stopped because of a perceived lack of reward. Games in general, but especially mobile games, are training gamers to keep pushing for the reward. They need that little flash of light and a ring of a bell to release that burst of dopamine to give them a reason to keep going. For example a guy in my Discord stopped playing Titanfall 2 and when I asked him why he explained that he had unlocked all the guns, as if that was the point.

1 ReplyIs it too much to ask that we get awesome or even marginally worthwhile loot AND have fun playing it at the same time??? D1 Y3 IB got that equation pretty right in my eyes. And hell Y1 and Y2 weren’t fat off from that. Shit come to think of it, all of D1 IB was more meaningful because it did both way better than D2. It’s too bad Bungie can’t move the needle forward. Sure, I play IB now to have fun. Sure as hell isnt because of the loot. I miss playing it and enjoying it for both reasons. But hey you know, god forbid I want as much enjoyment as I can get, right.? Or at the very least, as much as I USED to get from a previous product by the same game developer.

1 ReplyI would play it if it was fun like D1 but this pvp is dull.

3 RepliesSols, As someone that has been around from the beginning of this franchise you know full well that IB is, and always has been, primarily about loot. The initial incarnation of IB was the ONLY alternative path to max light outside of the raid until the HoW era. IB offered exclusive loot at the maximum level that was only available one week per month. That is why players would grind away all week long to get three characters done. That is why the tempered buff was brought in, to lessen the grind for that sweet loot on your second and third characters. Sure there was an element of fun to the gameplay itself, but you are kidding yourself if you think that was all IB was about. We had regular crucible for the other 3 weeks of the month to sit back and just have fun with friends. IB was always different: the allure of that rare ship dropping post match; creeping ever closer to rank 5 with every win to buy the helmet Atheon wouldn’t drop that kept you “forever 29”; or that beautiful god roll weapon that Saladin seemed to have waiting for you every time. Loot first, fun second. That has always been the IB way. Even if you hated pvp and never otherwise played, you made sure to hit rank 5 and get those rewards when IB rolled around. Players have three and a half years of being conditioned that way.

I play for the fun of it. no, it's not perfect. yet it still feels better than the other games out to me.

I do.

I play it for fun. Have since Y1.

I used to play iron banner just to have fun, but d2?..idk this doesn't feel like the iron banner I use to get sooo hyped for. In Destiny I didn't care about winning or losing in IB. I just felt this excitement when playing. It never got old. D2?....I can't explain it. You'd have to be a die hard to not see the overall issue with the pvp (not you personally, just in general). I seriously want to know how this 6V6 is going to work. They addressed TTK but...they absolutely didn't address TTK. "We understand you have concerns about the TTK and we agree......." Aaaaand what? That's it?

4 RepliesIn order to play a game for fun......the game actually has to be fun. That doesn't describe Destiny 2. This is a boring, empty, predictable, lackluster shooter with no soul. Can you name one thing in this PvP that it does better than other games? Graphics? Please. Gunplay? Nope. Exciting game modes? Don't make me laugh.

3 RepliesC’mon Sols. While I agree people should play for fun, we both know that this isn’t just a shooter, it’s supposed to be a looter/shooter. Thus, the fun should be a combination of the gameplay and the loot, or at least a chance at good loot. Right now, for me, it’s got neither. And thus, it’s no -blam!-ing fun at all. I REALLY don’t know how you find D2 PvP still fun, after all your hours. How often do you play solo? Take away the social aspect of D2, and you’re left with an empty shell of a game. I thought the friendship-as-endgame line was a joke.

1 Replyi play PVP in any game for the fun , and when matched evenly destiny's PVP is fun but it has that goal of loot , whether you trying to collect that IB armor set or that one gun that meets for fancy . face it this game is billed as a LOOTSHOOTER , so there needs to be some loot to be had . thats just the nature of the game

1)Yes, I'm playing for fun with friends from the clan and what? 2)People want content all at once.(They just went nuts) 3) 4)Nothing particularly) 5)People just have different views on things . An excellent post give like.

I'm with you and I consider myself a below average player but, unfortunately most of the changes in crucible have obviously backfired on Bungie. I'm not going to pile up on it. I think already have been said and I just wish for Bungie to do great and for all of us to enjoy a franchise we have rooted for.

Not if you enjoy using exciting guns and abilities you don’t

I have fun collecting unique loot, now that I have it I don’t find pvp very fun. I don’t have my own unique and infinitely exchangeable gearset from D1. This just means D2 needs much more unique guns. Random Rolls on ARMOR would work wonders for the gameplay.
-
I'm still having a good amount of fun. I am putting together an all blue 335 armor set. Also been using and experimenting with all blue weapon loadouts as well. It's actually not that much more challenging than using the boring meta. There are some very nice blue weapons. I do this for quick play and tend to do very well. I got my first unbroken medal this way.

I don't like PvP in general, I only ever enjoy myself in PvP if I am playing with a fireteam that is drinking and no one cares about winning and everyone is just egging each other on. But then again in that environment almost anything can be fun. So if the rewards/ornaments weren't enticing in IB I would give it miss much like I gave most of Crimson Days a miss, it did help that I got my exotic emote and sparrow in the first few packages.
-
Last year, yes. This year, no. I will return to try 6v6 iron banner, but I don’t think I’ll stick around for more than a few games as there’s nothing I care to do on D2 outside of IB.
-
hell no

Yeah i play for fun. Have noticed if i get my kd too high it starts matching me with sweaty idiots, so if i notice im getting a lot of kills i will stop shooting and just play with hammerbash. Makes it great fun but normally die a lot more. Keeps the kd down so i keep playing against people on my level. Sweaty morons annoy me.
-
I’ve never changed up my weapons to take advantage of a meta. Once I find the loadout I like getting me to change is like moving mountains. Besides, I remember the good old days of gaming before even achievements where doing difficult challenges things were their own reward. I play for the enjoyment. Didn’t run through Reach’s campaign easily 30 or so times to get a better weapon, I did it because I enjoyed the gunplay. Same reason I do a few strikes and story mission replays every week.

2 RepliesI like clash.. So being able to choose a clash only playlist is cool, just happens to be Iron Banner. Not being able to choose between clash/control/supremacy is just stupid.
-
I think most ppl play for fun. And they took the advice, if you don't like it, play something else.
-
6 RepliesI don't play to have fun for many reasons - the meta is so strong you'd be insane to use the weapons you want to use in PvP - players who think they're actually good when there all just hugging each others shoulders for extra damage because bungie deemed it completely necessary to nerf time to kill so we're all forced into one playstyle and one playstyle only - aside from the armor, no weapons apart from the current meta are worth the time and effort to get Bungies lack of action to change the core issues this game has, that is making a ton of players leave the game to find another game to actually have fun with

Eh, I try to play for fun. It’s fun for a little. I always run with my friends and the games are either us stomping another team to dust, or getting a good team and now it’s stacked teams attempting to team fire all their Uriel’s Gifts. Although DMG04 and Cozmo Gave us a great close game last night.........my worst game of the night too. I was giddy. 49-40, we won.
