I had originally posted this in #offtopic here but a bunch of people over there mentioned that I should probably post it here, so here it is. Less salt, more real, All Guardian.

Just wanted to share this with the community.
Last week Daniel McCartney who was a police officer and Navy Veteran was killed in the line of duty responding to a home invasion. I saw some of the funeral yesterday on the local news and in a moment of lightheartedness, his best friend mentioned that he and Officer McCartney were Destiny Guardians.
He mentions it @ the 1:38 mark here: http://interactive.tegna-media.com/video/embed/embed.html?id=2876124&type=video&site=281&dfpposition=Video_prestream_external
So yeah, we all just lost a Guardian in game, as well as IRL in every sense of the word. I just thought I'd share this with you all since he was a Guardian too.
If you feel inclined, you can donate to his widow and 3 sons here:

My heart goes out to his loved ones and fellow officers. Though I have my issues with the conduct of some police officers, I understand how difficult their job is. Rest well, Guardian.

148 RepliesEdited by Warbread: 1/23/2018 10:31:59 PMMilitary veteran and current police officer here. Some of you people need Jesus. I can't believe how toxic this community is. It's disgusting the complete lack of respect for human life people have. Edited: Urban Dictionary “You Need Jesus”: Phrase used to convey the idea that a person's words or actions are of questionable morality or virtue. But thank you for some of you justifying my original sediment about a toxic community.

47 RepliesEdited by ScotchEggsRules: 1/23/2018 8:26:18 AMQuick question to all the people posting insults about the OP or the dead police officer, why bother? Is your life that bad you need to rip on a dead person, from the cowardly anonymity of your phone/PC to make yourself feel better? I'll take great joy in watching strangers revel in a member of your family/friends death and feel the need to taunt you over it. Human detritus. Edit: On a positive, but minor note, this is a great post for muting scumbags.

People who say “where’s the ghost lul and self res xD” and “nobody cares” are people who are asshats and disrespectful. That’s like me going to your funeral just to disrespect you. That’s being a total douche and people who do that don’t deserve the material things or intelligence they were inherited with.
-
Didn’t know Logan Paul’s fan base all played D2. Get those mute buttons ready, most posts below are just pointless toxic comments. Condolences to the family, may he Rest In Peace.

From all the guardians in the Kades Dirty Misfits clan. Our deepest condolences to the McCartney family for their loss. Guardian Down. We will honour him.

1 ReplyCondolences to his family, for those asking for relevance, he was a Human like you, who enjoyed Destiny like you, who went to work like you and unfortunately he never made it home. I hate to say it but some of these comments really do the community a disservice, when Sean Smith was killed in Benghazi the EVE community expressed their condolences and best wishes for the family of a fellow player, I see no reason why the Destiny community cannot do the same.

3 RepliesEdited by Blump: 1/24/2018 1:28:23 PM
Eyes up Guardians, Praise the sun in memory of those whose light has been extinguished. Remember the light they brought into this world. Remember how it made yours brighter. The battle with the Darkness is not only outside our wall, but inside ourselves. In this time of great loss and even greater Darkness, remember that even the strongest of guardians can fall. Not a failure, but merely the doom of life that we each carry over us at all times, the edge between Light and darkness. Eyes up, Guardians. For our friends and fellow warriors. For those whom the Light was cut short. For the protectors. For the ones who stood at your side. For those who were the brightest of all. Eyes up, Guardians. Eyes up and crush the Darkness for those who no longer can. Edited by Morningstar: 1/23/2018 8:29:06 PMThe replies to this thread further reinforce the known fact that this entire community is incredibly toxic, immature and downright braindead. and you wonder why Bungie doesn't listen to you / take you seriously, or why other gaming communities don't bother to either, you're a bunch of mindless children, grow the -blam!- up..
-
15 RepliesLooking at some of the comments here, it's no wonder why no one at Bungie should ever listen to anyone here. There's more humanity in the dirt in the dirt in my shoe sole than in some of the posters here.

11 RepliesFellow guardians When posts like these come up there will always be a handfull of shitposters in the comments who care for nothing but their own entitlement. Remember Play it safe and take it with a grain of salt. Try your best to not feed the trolls. Best thing you can do for yourself and these children is just ignore them or 'thank' them for their "contribution" and move on. Nothing is more irritating to a troll than having the topic of their shitpost ignored.

Unfortunatly thIs post brings to light the serious condition of individuals and their mentality towards one another. It is sad to see some of the hate filled comments posted here. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Many of you wish to be respected and heard when it come to issues of this game yet act like this. Is it any suprise when you are not taken seriously. Thank you for sharing OP. And I wish his family well in this time of loss.

29 RepliesMy condolences to his family and friends. As I myself am a disabled police officer, and now work as a 911 dispatcher, I know the danger is all too real. It's always sad to see a hero lose their life. It's also sad to see that we have so many idiots in this community, who think they're cool, when they try to be edgy; making snide comments, because it's en vogue to hate on police. Especially knowing that those same officers would lay their lives on the line, to protect them, at a moment's notice, and without a second thought. Those officers are all human beings, just like you. They all have families, just like you. To say awful things, when an officer has died, while trying to protect their community is disgusting; and anyone who does so, is just garbage... a complete waste of flesh, taking up air that could be better used by decent people.

8 RepliesI am reporting every single idiot comment down below. This community is unbelievable

23 RepliesEdited by redstrikeTiger: 1/23/2018 1:32:06 PMFor everyone that is saying this has nothing to do with the game, you are wrong. Every player that plays Destiny is a real person. A person who moves through the game world, and changes it; thus affecting it by their actions. Just like a person does throughout the world in their daily lives outside of Destiny. The problem here is that all those who hate on others, especially a fallen Police Officer, have a serious issue of hate and negativity in their hearts. You can say whatever you want about how hate and negativity have nothing to do with the world, but the more hate you spread, the more will come back to you in other forms. I think that is a fundamental problem with the Destiny community. There is an overwhelming presence of hate and entitlement that is plaguing all players. We all need to focus on doing what is right. We need to start helping other players rather than playing solo or only with "good" people. Destiny does exist outside of the game world because if it didn't, then none of this, the Forums that is, would exist. So have some respect for a person that has passed away doing their job, and have respect for that person's family.

5 RepliesThis community is Toxic. I can’t say enough about how much I really can’t stand a lot of you, whiny, entitled, little shits. You should have been stains on the floor. Godspeed officer, your watch has ended. We’ve got it from here.

So many disrespectful and ignorant comments on this topic, it blows my mind how mean some people can be. If you don’t care, then don’t comment on the topic, simple as that. Rip.
-
1 ReplyI didn’t think people in this community were this toxic to things outside of destiny, this is sad

I like how the people with "Sweaty" names are the ones making fun of this post. I really hate this community sometimes.

So sad that all these people who have passed in the last three years were just as excited to play Destiny like all of us. For me this is just another reminder that even small things we take for granted like playing a game with our friends, could be over and done in the split of a second. Value your life guys. its short

As a fellow Police Officer, U.S. Air Force Veteran, and Guardian. My condolences. It always hurts when I hear of a fellow Boy in Blue losing his life in the the line of Duty.

13 RepliesThe soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To my Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his soldiers and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime, When the bills just got too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears. If you've got a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand." There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God. "Step forward now, you soldier, You've borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell."
