Game series that (sadly) didn’t catch on?

Good evening everybody! This is Aifos coming to you alive from Nightopia, where I had my security guard Papika capture Reala so he could be out guest star today! What do you have to say to the crowd, Reala? Reala: “When I get out of here, Aifos, you’re going to regret trapping me like this.. Just you wait..” Right.. Anyway, onto the topic at hand! Not too long ago, I booted up NiGHTS into Dreams. I realized quickly enough that I actually didn’t want to play NiGHTS into Dreams, I just wanted to play as NiGHTS. Well, not being in the mood for Sonic Riders (least I think NiGHTS is in the first one..), and not having Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing downloaded, I played the only other game I know of where you can play as NiGHTS; Sega Super Stars Tennis! Playing it got me thinking. This wasn’t a very popular game, was it? Which is sad, because as far as tennis games go, it’s probably my favorite, but since it never took off, we’re unlikely to see a sequel. Sadder still, this isn’t the only story like this. When a game isn’t popular, it doesn’t often continue its lineage past the first game, and fades into memory, along with the many, many, games lying in the electronic dump bin in the sky. Putting the question of why someone put that bin there aside, let’s talk about our favorite game franchises, that never really became popular enough for the desired number of sequels! Tl;dr? Here’s my point! Game series that died before getting the sequel(s) they deserved?/Game series that weren’t as popular as they should’ve been? My answer:
Sonic Super Stars Tennis. Now, I’m not usually one for sports games, however, I’m also not usually one for racing games, but I love Mario Kart (and similar “cartoony” racers). SST was like the Mario Kart of tennis. It was still tennis, no doubt, but with cartoony things like floating dream jesters, talling hedgehogs, super moves, and minigames where you throw lethal tennis balls at undead hordes. Plus, unlike most other cartoony tennis games (Mario Tennis, for example), moving your character around was your responsibility. If the b is flying left you’ve got to run (or float/skate) left to catch it, rather than cheering on the character to automatically do so themselves. I feel the Switch would be a good place to make a sequel, since the joycon can be swung around like a Wiimote. On that note, NiGHTS falls into this category as well. As far as I’m aware, there’s no plans to do anything with the series, because Journey into Dreams was apparently really bad. I wouldn’t know, though, because the $2 copy I ordered online never arrived.. But, if that price is any indication of quality..
