Good evening everybody! This is Aifos coming to you alive from Nightopia, where I had my security guard Papika capture Reala so he could be out guest star today! What do you have to say to the crowd, Reala?
Reala: “When I get out of here, Aifos, you’re going to regret trapping me like this.. Just you wait..”
Right.. Anyway, onto the topic at hand!
Not too long ago, I booted up NiGHTS into Dreams. I realized quickly enough that I actually didn’t want to play NiGHTS into Dreams, I just wanted to play as NiGHTS. Well, not being in the mood for Sonic Riders (least I think NiGHTS is in the first one..), and not having Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing downloaded, I played the only other game I know of where you can play as NiGHTS; Sega Super Stars Tennis!
Playing it got me thinking. This wasn’t a very popular game, was it? Which is sad, because as far as tennis games go, it’s probably my favorite, but since it never took off, we’re unlikely to see a sequel. Sadder still, this isn’t the only story like this.
When a game isn’t popular, it doesn’t often continue its lineage past the first game, and fades into memory, along with the many, many, games lying in the electronic dump bin in the sky. Putting the question of why someone put that bin there aside, let’s talk about our favorite game franchises, that never really became popular enough for the desired number of sequels!
Tl;dr? Here’s my point!
Game series that died before getting the sequel(s) they deserved?/Game series that weren’t as popular as they should’ve been?
My answer:
Sonic Super Stars Tennis.
Now, I’m not usually one for sports games, however, I’m also not usually one for racing games, but I love Mario Kart (and similar “cartoony” racers).
SST was like the Mario Kart of tennis. It was still tennis, no doubt, but with cartoony things like floating dream jesters, talling hedgehogs, super moves, and minigames where you throw lethal tennis balls at undead hordes.
Plus, unlike most other cartoony tennis games (Mario Tennis, for example), moving your character around was your responsibility. If the b is flying left you’ve got to run (or float/skate) left to catch it, rather than cheering on the character to automatically do so themselves.
I feel the Switch would be a good place to make a sequel, since the joycon can be swung around like a Wiimote.
On that note, NiGHTS falls into this category as well. As far as I’m aware, there’s no plans to do anything with the series, because Journey into Dreams was apparently really bad. I wouldn’t know, though, because the $2 copy I ordered online never arrived.. But, if that price is any indication of quality..
7 RepliesSonic the dark brotherhood. Made by bioware on ds. The ending was so cliche as it broke the 4th wall saying have to wait for the sequel, however bioware got bought by ea and the sequel never happened. It was a good game and its a shame that it wasnt continued

1 ReplyRage, a post-apocalyptic first person shooter with driving and crafting elements by iD Soft. An awesome game and so criminally underrated.

3 RepliesI really liked bulletstorm, would have been nice to get a part 2 of that. And I wouldn't mind seeing a new version of dying light either. Both games were fun and had creative ways to kill enemies, the stories were pretty funny and tense where they needed to be and the dlc for Dying light was dope as hell

3 RepliesBeen thinking about this since I saw this posted a few days ago. Best I can come up with is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. I hated the second game, but I thought the first was great, and would be the start of a new franchise. I’m not even much of a fan of Star Wars, but man, killing wookies by the thousands in that first level was oh so satisfying.

1 ReplyEdited by AcidRohnin: 1/15/2018 2:50:44 PMI’ve seen a bunch of good ones in the list so far. -Onimusha -Tenchu -Armored Core -Bullet Storm -Sunset Overdrive So I’ll throw in a different one for diversity. I wish they would bring back Cel Damage and Jet Set Radio Future. I played those games religiously on the Xbox. Also any of the “Street” sports titles, with the possibility of expanding into more sports, hockey, soccer, etc. EDIT: A few more: Dark Cloud, Burnout Series, Older Midnight clubs.

3 RepliesBulletstorm, I really hope there's a sequel for it; and its many uses of creative profanity.

7 RepliesKingdoms of amalur was pretty cool. Also I know kingdom hearts 3 or finally coming out this year, but the wait is rough. I was so sick of not having a proper sequel for so many years. Also ff7 should've had a sequel. Especially since one of the worst final fantasy games had 2 freaking sequels.

3 Replieswould have said darksiders but they actually announced the 3rd one althoug im not entirely sure if the new system will be as much fun to me as the 2nd was (one of my favorite combat systems so far)

2 RepliesToo Human. I think it should be revived. I know Silicon Knights were sued by Epic and all unsold copies recalled, but there must be a way for the licence to be aquired.

3 RepliesJedi Academy needs a rehash. Maybe not remake, but the light saber combat was the best I've seen in a game. Fast-paced, and a blast for an original Xbox game.

crysis, i loved the multiplayer in crysis 3 and i've been keeping an eye out for it on back comp for xbox but for some reason they keep on releasing crappy arcade games on back comp or games that have like 1 star reviews
