Bright Engrams are gambling and this game is for kids, so D2 is gambling for kids

Every time you buy a bright engram, you are pulling the lever and rolling for a chance to get an item you want that you may or may not get. A very small chance if you are going for a specific item. Since we know this game is aimed at kids (kid themes, jokes, simple story+gameplay, no gore or profanity) Bungievision is deliberately using Eververse to strong arm gullible kids into pulling that lever so they can get their hands on the sweet sweeper emote. An emote you are most likely not going to get. An emote that may likely cost $1 will likely end up costing you $20. Sure, you can play the game and acquire bright engrams the old fashion way for free, but since Bungievision decided to lie about XP gains and then double the amount needed, acquiring that sweet sweeper emote is so unlikely it almost seems pointless to do it that way. This game after all is not grindy, right? We are only supposed to log on once per week so how the heck are we supposed find the time to horde the amount of engrams needed to get that emote? What about kids who have school, then have aftercare or sports? They need to go to bed early or have an allotted timeframe to play. How are they supposed to get that sweet emote? No problem, step up to Eververse and pull the lever for a very small chance. Good job Bungie, you used Halo's reputation to set up a casino at the tower for kids while price gauging pointless things like emotes or ships. You should be ashamed of yourself. • Gambling is spending money with a chance at walking away with nothing. Every box that's existed in games so far has always given you something for money spent. So it's not gambling. This doesn't mean eververse was handled well. Or that boxes can't be shady.

Hahahahaa you such a troll. whatever, made me giggle. Honestly tho, people truly believes that bungie -blam!-ed them over with the xp thing. Did it not occur to vast majority of 12yo that bungie never intended you to be farming bright engrams? they are just supposed to be rewards for playing the game. they never wanted you to obtain alot of them, they wanted it to be on the side. unless you are reaally into obtaining a specific thing. in which case you should now be able to buy it straight off the bat. In case you DON'T have money to buy your emotes, ships, vehicles and -blam!-ing shaders, then worry not, cuz none of these things make you stronger or change gameplay in anyway. except for maybe instant sparrow. that shit is unbeatable. or best case scenario you do find it worth to spend some money, you get your "mic-drop" and bungie gets resources to improve the game. its for the greater good. compare destiny to league of legends (a SUCCESSFUL game, who SELLS cosmetics/skins and for much more money which makes up for the game being free). Had you pulled these arguments with them, they would laugh at you. destiny wont laugh cuz they lost their cohones dealing with criticism like this.

      • It's both gambling and it's not. Gambling would suggest that you spend money to get money or other monetary rewards, but have a chance at getting nothing in return. Bright Engrams do exactly that, but they always give you something in return. Even it's something you'd never use or want, you don't end up with nothing. You always get something. You just need to be lucky. Simple as that.

      • Ugh... how many times do we have to go over this... the loot boxes in destiny are not considered gambling.. gambling means that you have a chance of not being rewarded... In the case of destiny you always get a reward out of it.. it might not be what you want but its not gambling... The ESRB here in america also stated it is Not considered gambling... BUT... on the flip side of the subject loot boxes can simulate gambling... And as a parent why would you have your card info saved on their account? If you created a sub acount for them almost any purchase in the ps store made on main account is available to the sub account.. not sure how it is for xbox...

Until they start giving items that affect gameplay, it’s a non-issue.

                • What a weak argument. Just stop. Stop pretending that you have some sort of moral problem with Eververse. You just want the stuff that eververse has and you do not want to pay for it. There is no point in trying to dress up an argument like you actually give a damn about kids that play this game.

                    • By this logic, baseball card packs, Pokemon cards, blind bag toys, kinder eggs, etc are all gambling. Look, the boxes are legal. And for those that think this is gambling, here ya go: gam·ble ˈɡambəl/ verb gerund or present participle: gambling 1. play games of chance for money; bet. "she was fond of gambling on cards and horses" synonyms:bet, place/lay a bet on something, stake money on something, back the horses, game;  informalplay the ponies "he started to gamble more often"

                            • The Bungie Defense Force keeps banging on about D2 being rated T. I got news for yall: In this context, Teen still means kids. A legal minor. And pedaling gambling to kids is still a crime. No matter how much the game industry pretends lootboxes aren't gambling. And no matter how much you screech "buh wha 'bout perssssonal responsibillllllliiiiiiity!?!?!? ┻━┻ ︵ヽ(`Д´)ノ︵ ┻━┻" Like some kind of bullsh*t, libertarian mating call. And it isn't even just about kids. Lootboxes cynically exploit people with gambling addictions, adults and kids alike, for profit. That isn't an ethically sound business strategy, that's a f**king drug dealer. Actually, that is offensive to dealers. All the dealers I'v known had a strong enough moral compass to resist selling to goddamn middle-schoolers. The next time you feel the urge such a predatory tactic, I hope you take moment to reflect on what that says about you as a human being. Ask yourself if you are really willing to sacrifice children, and the psychologically vulnerable to the alter of corporate avarice. To Deej, Dmg, Cozmo, and the rest the dev team: I just want you to know that I get it, I'v worked for scummy corporate hacks before. I know no you can't turn this tide no matter how you may want to, at least not until unions become more prevalent in the games industry. And I'm fully aware that making a stand against the corporate dirt bags up the ladder, is not actually a realistic option for people who need to pay bills and eat food. I also know I will read the heck out the book I'm sure one of you will write about this whole fiasco in about 10 years. :P

                              • They know already this is not news for them this entire game was designed to exploit that. Everything about it from the sprint through strikes to the rigged equal wins to losses pvp matches the nonexistent end game content all designed for the "casual" (child ) gamer. They know damn well they are ripping off kids and abusing peoples wallets that was the entire point of this shitty mess. Why else do you think a dlc for destiny 1 was made into a stand alone game. The eververse. In destiny 1 ships shaders sparrows etc all earnable all storable. In destiny 2 they all come from eververse pretty much no storage for them no nothing. They want impulsive people to buy it delete it for space then buy it again delete it again etc (this is how the average child plays a game btw they do not know the value of a dollar yet nor do they understand concept of ownership). Trust me they know.
