The more I think about the things that I don’t like about D2, the more I see Eververse playing a role.
Take mods for example. Why do mods exist, other than to allow us to get 5 over max light. But the more I think about it the more I think that they were actually created as something to pad bright engrams with. The same goes for shaders. The way shaders existed in D1 was perfect, use them as much as you want, never lose them, move them wherever. So why change them to single use? Again, something to pad bright engrams with.
Ships, sparrows, and ghost shells were regular rewards in D1, but now they exist purely to pad bright engrams.
So here we see the source of all Destiny 2’s problems: Eververse. I honestly wasn’t sure why everyone was uniting against Eververse the way they were at first, but the more I thought about it the more it became clear. Destiny 1 is a game that was built around being fun and empowering the player. Destiny 2 is a game that appears to have been built around loot boxes. Remember that Destiny 1 didn’t ship with a loot box system, that came later.
Bungie needs to resist the temptation (or maybe pressure from Activision) to build their game around loot boxes and get back to building them around being fun for the player.
I would love to sit down with Luke Smith or Mark Noseworthy and ask them one question: how would have development of Destiny 2 differed had Eververse - or loot boxes as a whole in games - not existed when you started on it.

1 ReplyI am actually surprised that the majority of gamers telling other gamers to just accept Eververse are missing the bigger picture. Even some of the Eververse haters don't really understand the deeper impact of Eververse. Eververse is Activision's & Bungie's "toe in the water" to feel out how well "micro-transactions" could do, will do, and how far they might be able to take it. It's the possible start of something bigger and worse, namely "pay-to-win." Think of Eververse as a litmus test basically. ActBungie want to see if the players will catch on or lay down and take it essentially. Players that can see beyond this just being "cosmetic" stuff for sale that doesn't effect the game, but can foresee the greater evil ahead, are speaking out. We already saw that Bungie was creating a position for a person or team to monitize even more things in the game. https://gamerant.com/destiny-2-progression-engram-microtransaction-job-listing/ This is why every gamer here should be saying no to Eververse. If you like this game and want to keep playing it, then you need to recognize Eververse as a threat to this game and it's future.

1 ReplyWhen we spoke out about the ‘slippery slope’ we weren’t joking. How people couldn’t see it back then, let alone now is scary. The naivety is troubling.

Nah the problem with eververse is that for some odd reason it's the center of attention. It's like trying to dust a burning house.

So true! Been saying it nonstop.

7 RepliesTold them There should be more topics explaining the same point - eververse affects the game in a bad way. You can even simply start from the fact - developers spend time on eververse while players suffer from lack of content and gamebreaking bugs

4 RepliesMan.... if only any member of this community could sit down with the big wigs and ask what this is all about. I’ve come to the conclusion that Bungie devs have surrounded themselves with “yes-men”. The type of people that never question, never break the 4th wall, never have a criticism. The worst part is, the higher up you go, the less people care about making a game for a community of fans and the more they care about “THROWING MONEY AT THE SCREEN”. I’m gutted - “Players First” Bungie is dead. Long live Bungivision in all her rotting cesspit glory.

36 RepliesEdited by RichGhost77: 1/1/2018 5:30:02 PMIt was far worse in d1. As without purchasing the loot, you were limited to 3 chests per reset. And it wasn't just useless cosmetic items, it could contain armour with actual perks.... Wtf cares about sparrows and ships (I mean loading screens) A lot of ppl seem to have forgotten this. At least now u can grind to get unlimited engrams...

14 RepliesI can't agree more. You forgot to mention that during the Dawning, the only means of getting the armor was from buying the Dawning loot boxes, which you couldn't get from normal gameplay. Which just proves that the sole purpose of Eververse is to fund future "events" that only serve to sell more loot boxes rather than providing quality content. The other major flaw in Destiny 2 is the lack of content, and the removal of all the improvements and features added over time to the first game. Not to mention they completely crippled the PvE aspect for the sake of PvP balance, which is lacking in gametypes to choose from.

Makes sense but there’s more problems with this game.
