Here's the evidence.
TL:DR
Ubi reported 51% of their revenue was from microtransactions
2K reported 48% of their ENTIRE NET REVENUE was from microtransactions
2k also stated that yes, gamers are pushing back, and yes gamers are expressing concerns, but they keep buying them.
So if we want it to stop, stop buying them.

Its like they're surprised gambling tactics work. Its not like casinos have been using the same methods for, idk, like thousands of billions of years?

Your right...it was the begining of the end when the first person bought something for a digital game.
-
I only bought Halo 5 req packs a few occasions. I regret that. I don't dare spend a penny on microtransactions anymore.
-
2 RepliesI don't ever buy them, and there's obviously no stopping them. There will always be people that buy them. Also I don't mind them. They've never affected any games I've played with them. Even in halo 5, I've never bought anything and I've also never used anything from the req packs. Never had an issue playing the game, still found it an incredible experience.

5 RepliesAccording to these replies, these companies are either lying or people don’t even play games with microtransactions to begin with.
-
Lmao how the tides have turned. "Give us what we want!" They did.
-
1 ReplyThe main reason I hate microtransactions is that it removes skill based rewards in games. E.g. in halo 3 you got certain armours for your achievements, the hardest to get being Recon. Now in Halo 5, even though you don't necessarily need to pay money to get the packs, it's still completely random whether or not you get good rewards.
-
lol no i'll kept spending couple bills on it

1 ReplyOne of these days I'm going to have go make a full in depth post on micros. Thankd for spreading the news as well. Had heard this the other day.
-
3 RepliesI just want the industry to crash again. Fuck this cancerous practice.
-
I have no issues with micro transactions in free to play games. However they have no place in paid games, and especially paid games with season passes and additional paid expansions (looking at you Destiny 1 and 2) I have not, and will not support that.
-
1 ReplyNever spent a cent on a supply drop, never will
-
I've Bought VC Before. Cuts back on the extreme grind in nba2k18. Micro transaction are fine as long as there cosmetic and don't effect mp. Also the games not built around it.
-
2 RepliesI like the concept of MT's. So far only 2 games have done them wrong imo. cod. and gears 4.
-
1 ReplyI've known I lack self control when it comes to microtransactions. Over the past few years, I've made exceptions for games that I really liked, but I'm not buying a single one again. Skipped Shadow of War, skipping NFS Payback, and more. There are some games where the microtransactions mean nothing to me, like sports games. I don't buy them annually (getting Madden 18, last one I had was '06?) and just play exhibition matches for fun. I don't mind dropping extra cash on Gold Editions or waiting a year for a complete edition. However, I'm done being nickel and dimed by game developers. If they can't be bothered to create actual content rather than sell sparkly fluff or use pay to win models, they won't be receiving any of my business.
-
2 RepliesEven if we do not buy them, they will still be there no matter what just as an option.
-
6 RepliesAlso the fact that gamers refuse to buy a "standard" copy of a game for more than 60$. I get that's pricey after that but if you had to pay 90$ for a game but it didn't have micro transactions or season pass pre deals would you pay for it? I know I would.

4 RepliesEdited by weirdboy99: 11/10/2017 6:43:51 AMDid you also read the articles that say that 99% of that revenue comes from 1% of the players? Those stats are from mobile gaming but I don't think that it would be different on consoles or PC.
-
2 RepliesI blame mobile "gamers", Activision and their stupid fans.
-
I don’t have a problem with Ubisoft Microtransactions. At least you know exactly what you are getting when buy something. It’s the random drop loot boxes that are garbage and the duplicates in loot boxes should be illegal. I’m not saying good/bad when it comes to MT but if you offer them I should get what I want if I use my own money. Not random BS
-
Demand fuels the supply. Simple economics, people.
-
Personally i don't care if they're in games, I'm not spending real cash unless i want to. I've no control over others actions and I'm not going to speak for others. Sure there's a few games that do micros bad (NBA 2k and to a lesser extent gears of war 4), but there's also some that do it well. If i want an item and i can get it through grinding out by actually playing the game then I'll go ahead and do it.
-
I hate modern gaming.
-
1 ReplyFunny enough that southpark episode was dead on they know money is gonna rake in from that 1% of people that cant control themselves which is were the gambling argument comes into play they are pretty much exploiting addicts. Im sure there a lot of people who buy one or two loot boxes for their favorite camo but there is people who will spend thousands for them just look at csgo

I'll admit, I did buy a few Req packs when Halo 5 was fresh out. However, I quickly saw that the rng was way too unfavorable to get what I wanted. Ever since then, and with the help of games like Overwatch, the "AAA" gaming community has become a self-sustaining parasite. OP is right. We have only ourselves to blame in being complicit with companies gouging us for every penny they can get.
