I'm sorry I have to come onto the forums to write about this Bungie, but I have to voice myself somewhere; and despite knowing I won't get heard, I'm going to do so anyway with the hopes of causing enough of an uproar that something will change.
I love your game so far, and everything I have played of it; there are a lot of flaws, and there are a lot of problems, but all in all, I'm enjoying myself. Most of the problems I have, I can deal with, so long as I'm able to do the content.
However, here is my problem. Destiny is primarily a console based game, rather than a PC game, prior to this moment of course. But as a result of that, Destiny 2 doesn't have as much of a PC following as I'd like, especially not amongst my friends.
So let's talk Matchmaking. Let's talk Nightfall. Let's talk Raiding. Let's talk Trials of the Nine. How am I meant to do them? None of my friends actively play Destiny, or are even interested in playing Destiny, and you've made it flat out impossible to communicate with other players, save for a few dangly emotes here and there, and the only way to find myself a group for the REAL content, that I really want to do, is to hop onto LFG websites that do YOUR work for you, so that -I- can play the content.
Frankly. It's unacceptable. You gain nothing out of removing a matchmaker system from the game, even if it's a manual process of entering a list that group leaders look at, or actually placing players in groups for each other. Making it so that there is no matchmaker system for this content doesn't give any implication that it's only for the best players, or the dedicated few.
I am dedicated. I'm far from the best, but I'm enjoying the game, and I want to play more of it, but due to me having no friends online that actually play Destiny, I'm forced to sit and hear stories about this content, and not actually play it.
Unless I sit on an LFG website for up to half an hour or more finding members for my group.
Can you fix this, please? I'd like to play the game I paid for.
EDIT :
I've come to notice that a vast number of people are either ignorant to what is being typed here, not understanding it, not reading it, or simply not caring that it was there.
I will state very clearly here that I -DID- include in the original post the suggestion for MANUAL MATCHMAKING, which is identical to the LFG system, where you join a roster, and pick and choose your members yourself. Which allows you to filter out those who don't use mics, don't understand how to play, don't have the powerlevel you believe is necessary, or don't understand the tactics. This is the same as any LFG website, however the only difference is, this is implemented into the game.
For everybody saying that we/I should be thankful that there is no matchmaking as I'd hate it, please understand that I play across many different platforms and MMO's/games, all of which include Matchmaking, and I, like any other sound-minded individual, understand fully the risks of matchmaking and the people you may be included with, and that is a gamble that I am very willing to take.
Please understand the following as well:
If you have your own clan, and have your own people to run with and play with. I see no reason as to why matchmaking options would make the game any different to you in the slightest, or bother you at all. All we are doing here is making the game more accessible to more casual runners, such as myself.
I am yet to see any reasonable argument or downside to including matchmaking into the game.

You could repost a year's worth of posts in this forum from Destiny1 year1 and I swear you wouldn't be able to tell the difference! 😃

1 ReplyIf they don't want to add matchmaking, then I'd at least like the option to hide certain milestones that I'll never finish playing solo. Nightfalls are the biggest offender of the 'no matchmaking' thing, though. I can understand not implementing matchmaking for mechanic-heavy raids or competitive pvp events, but nightfalls are more than doable with randoms. And the "we want you to make friends" argument is terrible. I don't want to make more online "friends." It doesn't take kindred spirits to run through a damn nightfall strike. All you need are some warm bodies to help shoot aliens in the face. That said, they really need to add at least a zone chat (if not a universal chat). I do enjoy some banter while I go about my solo'ing. Even if I'm not actually chatting, it provides a kind of white noise.

I've been saying the same thing myself, if I'm paying for a game I want to be able to get the full experience. That means if I want to do a damn raid I should be able to do it. I don't want to use one of these very limited raid tickets to do it, especially when the wait time is usually almost an hour because then it doesn't seem worth the chance of wasting it. If I'm going to wait that long then I should be able to do it through open matchmaking. And besides, if so many people are on their own trying to find a group to do a raid then the wait time would be much, MUCH lower than the average 45+ minutes that I see every time I think about attempting it. And it's especially annoying for nightfall strikes given that it's the same game mode as a normal vanguard strike (with literally the same maps) only with extra modifiers. If I can easily set myself up for a vanguard strike, why not for a nightfall? I've had a lot of problems with D2 so far, particularly with the crucible (it's terribly made and I honestly just hate playing in it at all) but this is one of my biggest ones.

8 RepliesPersonally I've yet to do a nightfall or raid run simply because I don't know enough people who play the game. While I agree this means I miss out quite a lot it makes sense to me. Not just in the "go make friends it's a social game" kind of way but when sometimes you get people who don't know the game well enough to complete regular strikes without several wipes (as in getting killed at the boss and of course you on your own gets targeted by everything) do you really want to run into those people in the more difficult content? I think I'd be more annoyed attempting the raid in matchmaking with a group that doesn't communicate, repeatedly dies and refuses to attempt to learn the mechanics they are dying to. If you're playing on PC you're obviously going to be able to get onto this website easily, there's plenty of people looking for groups on here and if you're still struggling, check out the clan recruitment forums. People usually write exactly what they're looking for in their members on there so with some sifting you can find a group that does what you need them to.

4 RepliesEdited by Forever277: 11/4/2017 4:26:59 PMIt's never going to happen man. People have been screaming from the rafters (me included) for open matchmaking for everything like literally every other major co-op game in existence from DAY 1 of Destiny 1 They don't care They feel that THEIR way is better, even though no other game does it this way If you're going to stick with this game you better get used to Bungie holding your hand and dictating how they want you to play the game. This is a company that does shit like, oh, too many people are using this weapon in PVE, let's nerf it into mediocrity. We've noticed there a place that's good for fun farming of items, we removed it. It's infuriating and frustrating and comes across as patronizing. A good example would be a Metal Gear game. what Bungie dies would be akin to MGS devs saying "This is a stealth game, we are removing all non stealth ways to complete missions, please play our game properly" Open matchmaking works in Diablo, WoW, Borderlands, Dying Light....Literally any game you can think of, it works... But not Destiny, somehow Destiny is different and unique (it's not) and this convoluted mess of a system is the only way.

1 ReplyObviously you haven't spent much time raiding. The latest raid is a perfect example of why matchmaking won't work. Without spoiling anything, if one guardian doesn't know what to do it can be impossible to complete the section in a reasonable amount of time. (Not fun) After a few miserable experiences like that, you'll be begging to join a clan. They're saving you the painful step, be thankful.

1 Replylol you’ll figure out that MM for End game content would be a horrible idea. Afkrs, no mics and trolls would run amuck... I’ve completed over 450 raids in my time in Destiny. I’ve probably ran twice that many that ended in failure because ppl lie then others just leave. MM has ZERO place in End Game Content. Join a clan or use any number of LFG sites that are available to everyone! And btw If you do use LFG run the raid or NF as close to Reset as possible. There’s a reason it’s Monday night and they’re still trying to complete it.

Okay, so we've seen that some people do and some people don't like the idea of matchmaking. All that aside, would anybody like to create a fireteam with me? I have my own clan (Laminas), and although it was intended to be for my partner, and one other friend that actually plays Destiny, we don't all play at the same time enough to gather a fireteam, or are too far apart on skill level. If anybody here is interested in joining a clan that will now be dedicated to running this content on a casual level, for anybody who can't find players to do it with them, etcetera, then please let me know, and I'll invite you to my clan, and you and anybody else within it can run with each other, and/or with me, through this content. If we can't have matchmaking, at least those who clearly want it can have somewhere to go for it. Reply to this message to let me know if you want in.

I completely agree. The game isn't even worth playing right now (for me). They could at least put in some easy way to chat with people in game. Something akin to zone chat. At least then you could get a fireteam together. I don't understand their logic for not having matchmaking for endgame content.
