Without flaming, what's your favourite raid and why?
For me, Vault of Glass holds a special place in my heart. Even after completing it many times over, we would continue to go in and just explore - there were so many interesting secret / hidden areas to find.
The mechanics of the raid were some of the best to date (even if they were glitched - like teleporting between past / future).
The rewards were some of the most unique and sought after (Fatebringer, Vision of Confluence, Vex Mythoclast), and the armor some of the best looking (looking at YOU, Kabr's Battlecage).
It was rich with lore, and just an overall pleasant experience ...
I liked Wrath of the Machine, but the 'gauntlet' at the beginning of Crota's End was always a blast with a lot of laughs ....
What's your fave and why??
UPDATE: I can't tell you how pleased I am to see the responses and dialogue, and the fact that there hasn't been any major flaming here. Everyone has a personal experience an opinion on these raids, and it's good to see people realizing and respecting that. Great stuff, Guardians!

Kingsfall by far. Had the most thought put into it with challenges and lore etc
-
Edited by Lord Yoink N Bag: 11/3/2017 12:51:00 PMVOG - most fun raid with great weapons CE - easiest and cheesiest KF - best mechanics worst guns (except the MG) Wrath - good mechanics with the best weapons Leviathan - stupid mechanics with lackluster loot My favorite is probably Kings Fall with VoG a close second

Edited by Forsz: 11/3/2017 1:28:44 PMAt first I put King's fall.. But all things considered, with the exotic chest setup and vastly cooler weapons.... I changed to VOG. Just the most pure fun experience in Destiny so far, overall. Some of my favorite memories: Getting Vex to drop, the best primary in the game at the time, from an actual bad ass boss. Bungie needs to remember how awesome those moments are, and build back in. Sitting on the ledge shooting oracles with Ice Breaker. It's the simple things we love, and probably can do it infinitely without it getting old, honestly. Opening the Vault; and the whole sequence and progression of the raid. Really fun. Thrall maze in CE. Super fun setup, and always entertaining just to go back and do solo. Glass room and boss encounter versus Crota was awesome I think. Never got old taking him down with rockets etc. I loved the jumping maze in kings fall. Felt like being in space mountain. I loved all the multiple cool bosses of KF; killing bosses is what it's all about, then getting drops. They were great bosses. Big ass Oryx. Super cool. I was like... we gotta kill that..?! I loved the POE setup. It was a good break from norm. Thought it was really cool with the gladiator style holding area and entrance; voices used for announcing shit were awesome. Aksis was kinda blah to me.. I like the zambonie as a boss. And I loved the puzzle to get Prime, but otherwise I thought it was dull. Calus sitting like a true OG waiting for us was cool.. but otherwise this last raid isn't very memorable, or fun to replay. Don't like chest setup at all.

Okay, here's my thoughts on the whole matter. In my opinion, the next raid needs the Following. When we arrive, we should have to "Open" the raid to us, Al La Vault of Glass. I enjoyed the split mechanic of building the spire, and attempting to open the path to allow us inside the raid. It was cool that, you could potentially have randoms step in and help to open the area with you and your raid team. As we enter, I would like to see something similar to the Crota's End Gauntlet. Where we will have to Infiltrate the raid, in order to get deeper inside. All while under the threat of a seen, or unseen force, trying to kill us. When we arrive, we reach our first boss. Using watered down mechanics that will be used for the final boss. So, for example, if we are required to step on plates, like the Priest for King's Fall, that would be great, as it could carry forward to the final encounter. After defeating that boss, we receive a "puzzle" a team based time killer of sorts. We be that Jump puzzle, levers with adds to defeat, etc, just something to either intellectually or mobility wise, stimulate us. We reach the second boss, which will be a team based mechanic. Like a well oiled machine, this boss will test our ability to work together to beat it. While not necessarily hard, it will require the group to work together, and what we learn would help us in the final encounter. Now, similar to Gorgon's Maze, a stealth based puzzle would be great, avoiding enemies would pose a challenge before the Final Encounter. We navigate around his Guards, etc, where we will encounter a sort of Mini Boss, prior to being granted access to the Boss Room. Once we reach the boss room, we are provided with a wonderful challenge. A three or four phase boss. The first phase will use elements of the first boss's mechanics, allowing us to weaken the Final Boss, using said mechanics. The Second Phase will introduce the Mechanics of the Second boss we fought. The Third Phase would be a new mechanic to overcome, something unique to the Final Boss. This is where you would attempt to learn the new mechanic. Finally, the end phase would be finding a way to turn that mechanic against him, defeating him once and for all. For example, lets say I changed the Leviathan's Calus Fight to introduce this concept. We begin Calus like the Bathes, which require us to stand on the four plates within his room, with a mild variation. We fight a few hordes of enemies while defending our plate, in order to receive one of the prisms, attached to the chain. As the chain descends, the four players must rotate their plates, in order to avoid a debuff that kills you, should you stay on the plate too long. Once the prism is available, another player will grab it, and blast Calus with it, initializing phase 2. Phase 2 uses the Prism in a similar way the templar is used. Calus will teleport to a plate. The players will then need to kill adds while Calus attacks them. Periodically, Calus will launch a blast at the players, and the Prism Holder would need to absorb the blast. Once three are absorbed, all players jump to a plate, and the prism player fires it at Calus. Calus can then be damaged, and the players start a damage phase, getting him to phase three. This is where Calus will teleport the players to a Gauntlet. Players will have to collect the shattered pieces of the prism, in order to rebuild it, to defeat the boss. Once the gauntlet is complete, the players will be teleported back to the throne room, and blast Calus once again to start another Damage Phase. Once Calus is at 1/4 health, then he introduces his own challenge. Which would be the boss fight as we know it. Except it is only one phase. Three people are teleported, and run a gauntlet. At each gauntlet checkpoint, Psions will spawn in the throne room, and we need to punch one, to teleport a person out of the throne room. Once we kill three Psions, we would do the standard Calus Plates, we all stand on one, damage him, he "destroys" the plate, we progress to the next one etc. Then comes the "final big bang attack" where he raises his hands, and its simply a DPS check. Then we are done.

1. Wrath of the Machine 2. Vault of Glass 3. King's Fall 4. Leviathan 5. Crota's End
-
VoG and KF were my favorites. I liked the way they incorporated the Touch of Malice quest line and calcified fragments into the raid. Wish I could have done Wrath though and it looks like I won't ever get to do Leviathan.
-
Personal Opinion 1. Vault of Glass 2. Kings Fall 3. Wrath of the Machine 4. Crotas End 5. Leviathan
-
8 RepliesWrath of the machines all day! Most balanced, most fun and the best overall guns with perks. Many people don't remember but Vault of Glass wasn't a very rewarding raid. it's just up there for nostalgic purposes. Also wrath of the machine you could literally use any and every weapon didn't really matter no sleeper fine! No g-horn fine! just whatever you wanted. That's how a raid should be made. Y'all on that Jim Jones Kool-Aid call Vault of Glass, but hey to each his own.
-
2 Replies1. Vault 2. Kings fall (very close second) 3. Wrath 4. Crota 5. Leviathan I put leviathan down at the bottom, and I typed this just in case you couldnt tell.

2 RepliesVAULT OF GLASS: Though I had a bad experience with this one early on (tried to do it on PS3, when I had no mic, bad idea), this was an impressive raid. It was never my favorite, but I'd gladly do it again if my raid group was down. CROTA'S END: I really liked this one because it was simple: you could do it micless conventionally, but the challenges were reasonably easy as well if you had a mic. Think I have more exotic Crota guns than all the others put together. KING'S FALL: I know this one has many fans. I am not one of them. That room full of giant schlong-like pistons that kept knocking you off was bad enough, and the Oryx bit was brutal. Also, I didn't really enjoy the warpriest sequence; only rooms I have positive memories of are totems and Golgoroth. WRATH OF THE MACHINE: The fourth and the best. I enjoyed this one pretty much from start to finish; only part I could leave was the binary sequence for getting that SIVA pulse rifle (but it was fun to use in the raid). And to boot, I got my favorite of the exotic primaries: the Genesis Chain. LEVIATHAN: Not as good as Wrath, but better than KF (in my opinion). The pleasure gardens got hairy at times, but the gauntlet and beths were fun once you had everyone's jobs worked out. It would have been nice if there was a bit more room for error in the final DPS sequence.

9 RepliesEdited by WiggletonBandit: 11/2/2017 4:08:56 PMTrying to leave nostalgia out of it because I think VoG holds a special place for all D1 launch players, here's my take on raids and their progression. Vault of Glass - Still my personal favorite. - It had the best balance of combat and mechanics. - The mechanics it did have were more active and combat based as opposed to stand over here and do things in sequence, or run between 2-3 points. - It required coordination and teamwork, but didn't demand perfection. You could lose 1-2 team members during nearly every encounter and still band together to pull out a win. This allowed for hero moments to come through with the clutch victory and embodies what it feels like to "Become Legend". - It allowed for improvisation. There were multiple effective methods for completing each challenge because the mechanics were based around 1-3 team members performing special tasks while the others were able to focus more on Combat and DPS. - Great gear that was very unique and felt powerful and with the investment of time. Fatebringer, VoC, Mythoclast, etc. Crota's End - Hard to Call this a Raid - Fun encounter that was easy to carry many other players through, but too easy for a raid. It was clearly made quickly evidenced by the number of exploits/glitches and how easy and short all of the encounters were. - Great easy encounter for new players to get accustomed to basic raid mechanics and strategies, but doesn't really belong in the same category as the rest. - Still had some decent weaponry (Black Hammer). King's Fall - A slight overreaction - Overall a good combination of mechanics and combat. - Still allowed for some improvisation and weapon choice, but arguably a bit more restrictive than VoG due to some of the mechanics. Could lose 1 player, but not 2 in most encounters which was less forgiving than VoG. - Almost all boss fights which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but got a bit old. - Horrible rewards didn't feel worth the time investment. Mostly just used it as a means to reach max light in Y2. Wrath of the Machine - Meh - Nothing much to say about this one. It was fine and an OK mix of mechanics and combat, but still felt like it was missing something that I can't quite put my finger on. - Some really good weapons that had unique perks which made them interesting and powerful (genesis chain and steel medulla) Leviathan - WTF is this trash? - Waaaay overboard on mechanics, and very little relative focus on combat. - Rehashed older unpopular encounters. Dogs is just Gorgons, but kill them. Baths is just Totems from KF. Gauntlet is just stand and shoot things in order, then run in a circle. - Mechanics require perfect timing and team coordination which is great if you have a team of hardcore players who spend a lot of time playing together but horrible for pick-up groups or carrying a more casual friend. - Team wipe timer on deaths and revive tokens is just obnoxious for normal mode. This feels like a mechanic which should be reserved for hard mode. - Most annoyingly the majority of the mechanics require a full team to complete. Combined with the team wipe on anyone's death means that there's no more room for heroes, but there are lots of opportunities to showcase the weakest link on the team. At best this raid feels like you opened a combination lock which is not an epic event. - Loot is complete garbage. Cosmetic only armor, guns that are just reskins or worse versions of other stuff you can get anywhere. No reason to want to do the raid. - Tokens and loot keys are just annoying. Keys are fun once, but I'm not going to fetch a bunch of legendary engrams after I've beaten the raid. I just delete the keys now because it's a chore. As an Honorable Mention, Skolas is still my favorite 3-man event in Destiny. It required good team coordination and communication, but still allowed room for some intense and epic clutch moments if someone went down.
-
VoG just because the ability to carry a 6 man fireteam with 3 people. Made Sherpa runs as well as casual friends be able to enjoy the experience without it being mechanic heavily driven.
-
Vault of glass, I’m biased because Vex are badass
-
Skolas's Revenge.

Edited by WolfsMidnight: 11/3/2017 6:57:33 AM1. King's Fall 2. Crota's End 3. Vault of Glass & Wrath of the Machine 4. Leviathan King's Fall was the very first raid that I went through from start to finish. I enjoyed the mechanics of it and the fact that it has three bosses with different mechanics to take them down. For me, I found it fun. It can be frustrating at times, but still, I loved it. I also love the 390 raid gear. Got everything but the boots for my Hunter. The shaders are cool as well. Crota's End is enjoyable and funny if you go through it with the right people. The glitches can be entertaining as well ( looking at you Crota ). The raid may feel like a strike, but it's a simple enough raid to go through for a laugh. For Vault of Glass and Wrath of the Machine they are kind of a tie for me. In VOG I feel as if it drags on quite a bit in the middle; with the Oracles and the Hydra. That part of it kind of made me lose interest in it. Once the 390 one came out, I only went through it to get the boots for my Hunter ( the vex leg is cool ). Whereas for Wrath of the Machine, I don't really know what to say about this one. I don't mind going through it, but there is just something about it that I'm not too sure on. The weapons were good but to me, the gear was just horrible. Leviathan raid; nope. Sod it.

1 Reply1. Wrath of the Machine 2. Vault of Glass 3. Crotas End 4. Kings Fall 5. The Leviathan Wrath of the Machine is my favorite raid as of now. In my opinion, WOTM excelled in every way. The rewards were great. The siege engine is the most fun non-boss encounter for me. The armor looked nice. The loot chests that pop up after each encounter. Vog is a close second but WOTM is just better.
I know I'll get hate. It's okay
Why is lecithin up here?

This is a really hard decision, i actually love the setup and mechanics of the leviathan. The fact that it has kind of broken the standard of one boss fight after another with maybe a jumping puzzle in between, is pretty awesome. I mean there isnt even a boring boss like golgeroth who just acted as a door to ensure your team had high enough DPS. You can get all the way up to calos with a somewhat under leveled team that just works really well together (which is also what can make it a nightmare for random teams even if they are high levels). That being said it also feels like on of the least rewarding raids to date, mainly because the majority of your gear will come from handing in coins rather than from raid chests, and the gear doenst feel all that special. They have no perks, or even a guaranty of legendary mods, and even stat wise they arent great (for titans they are for some reason agility based). Vault of glass will always feel like at least one of the best raids, it felt well setup, and again didnt have a lot of just one boss room after the other. It also helps that it has some nostalgia linked to it since it was the first raid, and i had a ton of fun running with my friends and even met some new friends, who i still play with today, while doing it. The gear also felt rewarding to get, even though at times it was a little to aggravating to get. The wrath of the machine would probably fall about third. It again felt like a well put together raid, and there was something about that final boss section that just felt so great to do, especially if you had a team to do it with. It really felt like it was the product of them getting the formula for the raids of that style figured out.

1 ReplyLet’s just rejoice in the fact that leviathan only has 2%
-
Kings fall would have taken first if it wasn't for Oryx and the shitty loot from the raid. I would have to say the best raid is VoG but my personal favorite was WotM.
-
I would rank then exactly how the percentages are. 1. VOG 2. KF (very close 2nd) 3. WOTM 4. CE 5. That super weak D2 raid (can't even say it's name out loud, although the underbelly gives it a slight boost)
-
Crota because I could play through it and earn gear to progress solo.
-
6 RepliesOmg you sweaty fiends why is kings fall so high? Lol smh. VOG hands down. Leviathan is cheeks.
-
I loved VoG, carrying noobs was so fun. Hero moments during oracles (since back then oracles were very long and punishing). It was just an all around fun raid with excellent weapons. I liked Croats End even tho most didnt. I remember the heavy ammo synth shortage and a lot of people “requiring” ghorn, but that made my pickup groups that much more fun. I’d tell ppl they didn’t need ghorn and didn’t need to even be 31-32 to roll with us. Was so much fun for such a small raid. Skolas, tho not a raid, was not something I experienced. I had taken a break by this point until TTK came out. Kings Fall, mannn I lovvvved this raid. It got shit for being too long, but I lovvvved it. I love long raids, dark and ominous story behind it, and an ancient evil god bent on taking our light. The ONLY thing I didn’t care for was the oryx fight almost eliminating hero moments, and having no do’s check means no matter how good you are at the encounter it will always take the same amount of time. Wrath was also unique, it had outside sections and was the first fallen experience. Tho I didn’t like that it had only two bosses, I loved most the gear and weapons from this raid. Then we come to leviathan. Wtf is this shit? A gameshow? It’s a shell of other raid encounters, has shit loot, and has no checkpoints so you always have to do the stupid door section each try. I hate this raid, idk wtf bungie was thinking. How do you go from wrath to this garbage???
-
I might be the minority but I actually enjoyed playing Trials: Skolas. I get it's not the most complicated but the enemy count and getting tasks done was hard enough for some on getting the first the of triumph completed.
-
2 RepliesVoG and WotM. VoG: I love the lore behind it and the perfect blend of Mechanics and fighting. WotM: I loved how rewarding it was and the overall design. Aksis is by far my most favorite raid boss, right next to Crota.
