This game is not nearly as bad as this forum makes it out to be!

Let me first state that this game is not perfect! But it is definitely not a trash game either :) Being a HUGE D1 fan, i have had a lot of fun in D2. I have 200 hours at the moment, and i still return every week to complete some milestones and play raid with friends in the weekends. (Yes i actually find the raid funny, not the best one they ever made, but definitely not the worst either! *cough* Crota *cough*) 90% of posts on the forum right now: Bungie lied to us! - No? I have yet to see anything they promised pre-launch that has not been implemented. You might not like the actual implementation, but Bungie has not lied to you. Bungie stole my money! - Come on! Research what you buy before you buy it! Don't pre-order a game and then whine about pre-ordering it because you didn't like it. Just wait til after it is released and do some initial research before you buy. This is really your own fault! Bungie fix your game - Bungie is not gonna throw away everything in their hands 2 months after launch and completely redesign a game that they just only published on all platforms. How can people seriously expect this? This game is shit / etc etc... - How are you supposed to fix anything from posts like this? I am all for constructive criticism, but being a developer myself, i can tell you that nothing will ever get fixed based on posts like that. The devs does not listen to their community! - Bungie has already stated in a weekly update that they know people are complaining about lack of end game content, and they are looking into it. And the TwitchCon stream showed that the live team is working on all sorts of other fixes to address concerns. They might not answer every possible thread on the forum, but based on the quality of posts on this forum, it is quite understandable. Lack of content! - This is a brand new game? Did people expect this to have the same amount of content as D1 Y3, a game with 4 released expansion packs and 3 years of post-launch development? PVP is runied! - I like the new PVP alot more than in D1! But for those that dont, blame the people that flooded the forum in the D1 era with posts whining over Crucible being unbalanced! Stupid Bungie for listening to the community ;) D2 is dying! / Player base is disappearing - I cant even count how many times i have read this in the D1 era without the game ever dying! And who expects a game to never loose player base with time? At some point you will always exhaust the content. This seems completely normal to me. My own suggestions for improvements: Strike specific loot - Gives a reason to play strikes in the endgame. Heroic lost sectors - Not sure how this would work :) But lost sectors are a very cool addition to the game, and a system that would make them relevant at end game would be cool. Maybe a weekly milestone for completing a hidden heroic lost sector? A more comprehensive mod system for weapons - Now that weapons have fixed rolls, i always thought it would be more of a "build your god roll" instead of RNG. Mods are really under-utilised for weapons. Much potential here for improvement. Iron banner rewards underwhelming - Seems like Bungie is already working on fixing this. Raid loot system underwhelming - Agreed, but i find the raid quite enjoyable anyway. The world design of D2 and the way you interact with the world is 100x better than D1! Conclusion If you really dont like the game then just move on. I have bought many games in the past that i regretted, but i dont spam the games forum with crap posts for weeks after finding out. I usually just find another game to play instead. D2 is a very solid game in my opinion, i have had great fun with it. My average play time at this point has fallen (as is normal), but i still enjoy returning a couple of times a week with friends doing Nightfall, Raid and Crucible/Iron Banner. I am really looking forward to the next DLC and season 2 to see what Bungie comes up with. They have always done a great job with post-launch content. ---- UPDATE ---- For all the people that still dont think Bungie listens to its community. Please read this: https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/46427 as stated in this post, it was reasonable to think Bungie would focus on releasing the game on all platforms before starting to redesign features :D

Just my own answers to your post, for whatever that’s worth... Bungie lied to us! - No? I have yet to see anything they promised pre-launch that has not been implemented. You might not like the actual implementation, but Bungie has not lied to you. —- “Hybrid P2P”? D1 pvp... shot behind cover 40-50% of the time. Bungie says don’t worry, Hybrid P2P is actually better than dedicated servers and our old p2p. I’m not going to humor anyone with another made up percentage, the the general consensus is that it’s much worse (more getting shot through cover). Many feel lied to. Here’s another... QP playlist will “prioritize connections” above all else. In fact they even went so far as to say you should be prepared to be get beat by better players. I can dump a bunch of screenshots of my router’s geolocation map showing me (NY) connecting with places like Japan and Africa sometimes in the same match. The best was Australia (~10,500mi away, solo player btw). Prioritizing connections? Again, I’m feeling so lied to over this one that it’s beyond frustrating. Should we be playing against a connection or other players? That’s a serious question. When my own performance in a match doesn’t determine the outcome (good or bad), why even log on? Bungie stole my money! - Come on! Research what you buy before you buy it! Don't pre-order a game and then whine about pre-ordering it because you didn't like it. Just wait til after it is released and do some initial research before you buy. This is really your own fault! —-Yes and no. You see glimpses of the game that are fed to you months in advance. You know what the prequel was and believe the claims of everything being better. You have multiple instances of “Preorder Exclusive” this/that. See my examples of “lied to” above and you make the call. Yes, you could wait till year 2 of D2 before knowing if it’s a safe buy, but do you? Bungie fix your game - Bungie is not gonna throw away everything in their hands 2 months after launch and completely redesign a game that they just only published on all platforms. How can people seriously expect this? —- Fixes shouldn’t require a “redesign”. People aren’t asking for a different physics engine or a new aspect of the game. Some posts do have valid concerns and even supply ideas that would help. This game is shit / etc etc... - How are you supposed to fix anything from posts like this? I am all for constructive criticism, but being a developer myself, i can tell you that nothing will ever get fixed based on posts like that. —- Totally agree... but it’s the lack of responses to valid questions and concerns that pushed it this far (for the most part). Not 5-6 weeks of no responses, but 3yrs and 5-6 weeks. Meanwhile a post like “what’s your favorite color” gets a response. Who’s trolling who here? Lol The devs do not listen to their community! —- Addressing one broad issue with a promise of new shiny items in a new “season” (whatever the hell that is) isn’t considered a fix by many. People aren’t expecting a laundry list of fixes in each TW@B, but a few pictures doesn’t cut it for many while the rest of the TW@B says “we’re listening” and “pc is where it’s at!”. Lack of content! - This is a brand new game? Did people expect this to have the same amount of content as D1 Y3, a game with 4 released expansion packs and 3 years of post-launch development? —- Total truth here if you ask me. If it was anything they did wrong it was making too much accessible too easily, but I’m 100% with you on this one. PVP is runied! - I like the new PVP alot more than in D1! But for those that dont, blame the people that flooded the forum in the D1 era with posts whining over Crucible being unbalanced! Stupid Bungie for listening to the community ;) —- Agree again with whining, but the blame ultimately rests on Bungie for making the changes. Was it Overwatch or The Division where people whined about “nerf this, nerf that” right in the beginning and the Devs basically replied “This isn’t Destiny” and nothing changed. The real things that ruined pvp (again) were covered above (my own opinion of course). I wish the best for this game because I want to play it! It’s obvious though that they took many wrong turns with a game that was very successful in its first iteration.

  • Yeah... guys, it's just a game. Sure you paid a lot of money for it. Maybe it's not everything you hoped or everything you were promised. But it doesn't effect your way of life. At the end of the day, it's a game. And regardless of what it has or doesn't have, it is a well made game that runs and plays smoothly generally speaking. It's a game you can get a lot more time out of than many other games of the same price. The fact that this game not only exists, but evolves, for better or worse, and evolves in response to US, the people who play it... In my opinion that's more than good enough. But I'm just a filthy casual so what do I know lol

  • It's a great game and has a good core. They badly implemented so much stuff though. Shallow mod system (especially for weapons) Lame rewards for end game contents. Prestige mode stuff I'm talking to you. Strike specific loot and custom loot. Maybe scopes from certain planets and weapons from certain strikes? Armour drops and unique guns that can be nodded and kitted out. The shooting mechanics and feel is good all round but to much bland other stuff makes people mad......

  • Great post, kind of sums up how I feel too. Wish you had more up votes. The weapons need a better variety of perks, I miss grinding for god rolls. I think they did this for balance for PVP. Separating the two is a must to get balance I believe to have weapon perks like D1. The game world and the patrol areas are really awesome and watching some of the PCs streams, it looks even better. I agree on the strikes and the Lost Sectors, they are kind of irrelevant at certain power levels and need heroic versions. I'm spending less time in D2 than D1, but I attribute that to the weapon variety I grinded for in D1. Not because the game is sh!t, I'm enjoying D2 a lot. I plan to go for the PC version, just gonna wait for the kinks to get ironed out. People burn through content and then complain. Yes the endgame content is dry, I will agree. But Bungie will adjust things, after all they have gotten into the PC realm of gaming. I think that PC content had to drop before any adjustments to weapons and the sandbox were going to happen anyway. I'm looking forward to what is coming in D2 as the seasons come.

      • I think we all can agree that the game isn't perfect. There is glaring issues that need to be fixed (like Prestige mode and Iron Banner rewards for instance). But the difference I have seen on the forums is that people like you can respect the game for what it is and comment on these problems responsibly. While the more dominant posts have mostly consisted of rants filled with "Reasons why (insert something is better than Destiny 2", or "Destiny 2 is boring". And while I did majorly generalise the community, you see the point I'm trying to make. Just with the new weekly update, we finally get a list on the big issues the game has so we know we can be heard. But for some reason, the mentality went from 'Give us anything to know you're listening" to 'lol, that's not an update, we should have had that from the start'. I completely agree that yes, we needed these things from the beginning, but for now being salty because now they're going to add them back in is ridiculous. I enjoy the game for what is there. If they fix the strikes to make them enjoyable and more worthwhile, I will play it, and that is the same for lost sectors and nightfalls. I'm fine with playing it leisurely until they make it more of a grind, or even if they don't make it hardcore at all. Oh yeah, and for the majority of hardcore players, this isn't a job, play something else or hang out with friends. I myself am enjoying Fortnite and Rocket League with some Destiny 2 on the side.

      • Im still having fun with D2, just 1 thing i really dont get. PVP is based on 4 vs 4 but if i want to play PVP with my own clan members i cant form a 4 player fireteam and join PVP cause its only 3 player fireteams... Atleast give us 4 player fireteams. About the OP, i agree with most of it, and wait patiently for the stuff that comes with my season pass and is yet to be released, that and maybe some finetuning of this new way in D2. Well see.

            • Perfectly said. I don't see strike specific loot being introduced unless they allow you to select individual strikes. Otherwise you're just going to have quitting all the time a la Destiny 1. The few people I play with that have stopped playing so much are the ones who only care about personal loot. Once they have everything they moved on cos there's nothing left to do. Personally I still enjoy helping others through nightfall, raids, etc. So I still enjoy the game. That's not to say the game is perfect. Far from it. But let's be honest and acknowledge that Bungie are aware of this and are working to improve.

            • So this is where they spend there money on 'writers'. Another enlightened Bungie fan explaining exactly what is wrong with how we complain and what we are complaining about. Damn it all if only I could think, perhaps I could get it right one day. How can I not see how great this completely stripped, watered down and very glitchy broken game this is? How can I not see that I should be happey they are going to methodically reintroduce everything they stripped and make me pay for it as they do. I couldn't even make myself read half of that nonsense.

                • D2 is at most, a solid foundation that D1 was at initial release. However, D2 is essentially D1 with a slightly better and fleshed out plot. For the lack of content, I'll have to say that with the expansions from D1 (My friend was crazy for D1, and D1.5), Bungie has experienced how fickle the gaming community is, when D1 was hands down, the most disappointing game of 2014, with lack of content after a somewhat fast storyline, and extra content that's pretty much paid DLC hidden on the disc already. D1.5 is the game that Destiny should have been at launch, and honestly, Bungie just copy and pasted the exact same formula that D1 used, where there is a glaring lack of content, and extra content is hidden behind paywalls. D2 is literally D1, except with a 2 sticker slapped onto the box. The Destiny community is what keeps the game afloat, but I definitely want to say (from a Bungie veteran user's POV), that Destiny 2 better have something that will blow my socks off to make me recommend the game to my friends. Because as of right now, I don't see myself recommending this game to any of my friends. One simple solution that I would definitely hope Bungie will do for D3, since that would mark their final game of Destiny, is to get rid of the paywall. Don't break the game up into sections and say that it's an expansion pass. The expansion pass is literally asking us to fork over another $30 for a game that is worth $60 with all of the content put together. Expansion passes turn off many because it's a paywall that no one in their right mind would like (who seriously wants to pay an extra $30 for content that's already on the disc?). Capcom had the same marketing strategy, and now look at them. Get rid of the paywall, release a full game, and that would make Destiny 2, and possibly Destiny 3, a better game by leaps and bounds, then release expansions that aren't on the disc. I don't mind paying for expansions that are stuff like Rise of Iron, or The Taken King, since those weren't in the disc of Destiny 1, like House of Wolves was.

                  • Only one fact needs to be known and is relevant: will this be a game that down the road will maintain a population within the expected parameters of game retention? If Bungie releases D3 2 years from now will ppl buy it? The salt, anger virulent animosity comes from patience since Vanilla D1 and getting to this stage. More importantly much of it was avoidable: no one was asking for random modes in Crucible, nor 4v4, nor the banishment of random perks, rumble. If I can type those problems half asleep on a train, then yeah the game and studio are all on the wrong side of what they assumed we wanted.

I used to play D1 all the time when I had a chance but now I’m not looking forward to the time I get the chance to play like I used to. I want to want to play this game the way I did D1 and in its current state I don’t feel that way.
