Just quit. This obviously isn't the game for you. Lots of good titles coming out. Dragons Dogma is coming out on PS4. Really good, though it's not a fps.

I agree that the story isn't amazing, it isn't like I was playing The Last of Us, Final Fantasy 6 or 7, and The Witcher. It wasn't like I was playing blockbreaker or solitaire either, and it was a definite inprovement over D1 and a step in the right direction. I would put it right at about 5/10 maybe 6 but probably not. That rating is part of and leads into my issues with the story. The fact that it is average, it is obviously and blatantly average. It takes no risk and plays things very safe throughout. So I can understand somebody wanting to rate it below average because it feels predictable and safe. The writing is average with a couple nice moments but as a whole average. The plot is average, the character development is average, the ending is average and close to below average because I thought Ghaul would stick around and become a more fixed and known recurring threat in the universe or at least I was hoping we would get that with a villain. So yeah average in so many areas gets an average score from me. You can have an average story or premise but you gotta do a better job masking it within the story, they didn't really do that the whole thing was pretty obvious throughout and to be honest I felt like I was being spoon fed everything. It is almost like they are having trouble finding the happy middle it is only extremes and polar opposites. D1 they have grimoire it doesn't go over well with a large portion of people because it required work to look into and understand. D2 requires zero work to understand is a basic spoon fed average story. They need to find that nice little middle ground where those to styles meet. That is just my opinion though, I didn't love the story but I can't say I hated it either it was just meh.

    • After the first Ghaul encounter, I was hooked. That feeling wore off pretty quickly. Ghaul, a villain who at first I thought was pretty interesting pretty quickly became a walking cliche. What annoys me the most is that realistically speaking, Ghaul had us wiped out, all he needed to do was take the traveler's power, hit the big red button for the Almighty, and take a vacation. Instead, we get the typical inferiority complex yarn that sees the villain shooting themselves in the foot and giving the good guys that miraculous window to save the day. All in all, I can't get enough of the gun play in Destiny. So fluid, so crisp. That's why I play. Heck, the story in TTK was laughable also, but it got a ton of praise just for existing. I never played Destiny for story in the first place, and that didn't change. I'll just give them a smiley face sticker for trying, and enjoy the wonderful gameplay they've given us.

    • Agreed. Destiny 2s story was only a fraction better than the mess that D1 was. Best part is that I didn't think a final boss could be more disappointing then D1s... D2 proved me wrong. At least D1s final boss was accompanied by an amazing musical score...

      • My thing is that people compare D2 story to vanilla D1 as if The taken king and Rise of Iron never existed. Mostly all the stuff that D2 is getting praises for has been done during year 3 of D1 hence why people called D2 a DLC. Besides a few quality of life improvements and the tweaks to pvp and the subclasses. D2 brings nothing new to the table. Same factions, enemies, and formula. And thats not really a bad thing but to the hardcore fanbase people are struggling to find things to do.

      • What I hate that this was a very safe, dime a dozen story. The parts that stick out most in this game have done better by Bungie years ago! But people will defend this game to the death because they've invested so much time and money in this series.

      • Final fantasy 9 just got remastered. Pretty fantastic story. Idk if it's a 10/10 story, but I don't get on FF forums, so I won't have to see you bitching about it. Go try it out. Or read a book.

        • To compare D2's story to the star wars prequels is a bit unfair to the prequels. In the long run, the plot of those movies was very interesting and wasn't just cliche, it was more about the fall of a hero who was neglected by those he fought for.
i agree with what you say, but I don't think the prequels are all just cliche bits
• I'm going to date myself here, but I highly recommend planscape torment, or baldurs gate 2 if anyone is looking for a reference for a game with a "good" story. I feel like the destiny 2 story could have been pieced together from watching Star Trek parodies on pornhub.

          • Awful lot of inconsistencies, plot holes and loose ends just like Destiny 1. At least their mistakes are consistent. Then again I didn't expect much.

          • The story is 100% improvement of what D1 story was.
D1 had no story xD
The story is Normal at best with some impressive visual design. But as a story compared to other games it's normal. It's not bad but it's not great either.

If you have ever been here for the story, you are doing it wrong. Lots of places to get a good story. Destiny has never been it and likely never will. A ton of people already knew that going in and came back anyway. That's because they may have hoped for a decent story, but know the story isn't why they came back.

          • No the story was not good. If anything it was serviceable. But what I would say is that it was a bad story with heart. There was care here, just poor, poor execution, and horrible narration combined with nonsensical context.

          • It's blind fanboys. There is no arguing how terrible the dialogue, voice acting, and 'story' telling is. If people truly think this game had a good campaign, they're completely neglected on anything that involves quality.

Story was ok, but I found it tedious by the end. Some of that was the way they looped more than one mission together without a break. As much as I thought I’d like the vehicle missions, I really didn’t care for them. I also hate hate hate that you have to go through the story on all 3 of your characters to unlock the Tower and most of the endgame content. I understand why they want you to run the campaign, but most of the missions don’t have a great deal of replayability. So glad games like Warframe that have so many more character customizations and characters don’t require you to run through the campaigns to open the planets for each one. The only things that make the repetitive times through better are the use of sparrows, skipping through cutscenes, and better weapons (mainly because I leveled my alt all the way up to 20 after around mission 6 or 7 doing public events). I love the game but the need to do these missions over again is so tedious. Better story but some of the missions drag on solo. Frankly, I wish I could just skip the tank missions too. I also haven’t done a single meditation. Public events are fun; the story just isn’t fun more than once. Sorry.

            • you are right. destiny 2's story receives praise because D1 barely had one. i like D2 as a game, and the story is better, but still not nearly good enough

            •
Why are the Cabal attacking again? To "take the Light." Why? Why am I being given a backstory to Ghaul when he's going to be dead at the end anyways? I don't care about him or his motives in the slightest? Why did Bungie try to make us "understand" him? Would it not have been better if Ghaul was just a mindless, crazy warmongering Cabal leader that wanted to blow up the Traveler because he saw it as a threat? Wouldn't that have been a better story? Make a villain so evil that we actually want to kill him?
For a guy complaining about the campaign you sure don't seem to understand what character development is or what makes stories and characters compelling.
