Why the Heck are there loot cooldowns?!
I really thought this was a bug at first but then i looked on here and found out that Bungie literally put a cooldown on the loot you get. It doesn't even take much to activate the cooldown. I literally just turned it on, got a treasure map form cayde and went to titan to get it but because i killed one high value target and looted the chest he dropped i got literally nothing from cayde's chest. i couldn't even get any alkane spores. I mean i'd understand it if there was some bullshit farming method that became popular so they put in a cooldown so if you are getting too much loot in a short time it makes you wait a while, but i'm literally just casually playing the game, doing things they intended for me to do. In a game that has a high emphasis on end-game grinding you CANT punish players for freaking grinding.

8 RepliesI don't think there's a timer. Personally, I've never had an issue with not getting loot. I think that there is just a glitch with Cayde's chest, as I have seen a lot of outcry about that.

6 RepliesBefore you go on a huge rant make sure that when you open a cayde chest that you back up and take a look around it. There have been plenty of times where I open it to find nothing and turn back as I am running away to see a bunch of engrams on the ground by the chest. Sometimes it glitches out for some reason and doesn't put the loot directly into your inventory.

I was able to farm tokens on Titan and pick up Cayde treasures all in within 30 mins with no issues. This is just people's theory that have no factual evidence. Update: it seems that is a very hot debate regarding a hidden timer. I just wanted to state that I'm not saying there isn't a problem. However, I don't think a timer make any sense. Went to my friends house and did the Cayde treasure thing for him last night. I was able to grab all 5 chests in less than 7minutes . All 5 chests yielded some loot (unfortunately no exotics). However I noticed that when initially open them, I didn't get anything immediately, but I stood at the chest for about 5 seconds and the loot suddenly popped up. This occurred on 3 out of 5 chests. There seems to be a little delay.

It's the unfortunate side effect of patching an exploit in the older programming of the game engine.

2 RepliesI would imagine since they are just giving Legendary and Exotics in chests and such now, it goes back to the 3 of coin scenario. The fast you loot the less chance you have. Just slows down the speed demons from rushing through content.

Is there a link on cooldowns on loot? Because I know they changed the RNG, the way league of legends, so players don't hit max power level in 2 days lol. And for 5 treasure maps you by have a chance to give you nothing.

So I was made aware of this yesterday after making a post reporting this 'bug', that it was a purpose made thing. I am disappointed that this is a thing someone thought was a good idea. I and disappointed that no one over at Bungie caught this before releasing it into the game. I am angered at the fact that playing the game as casually as possible, that I get punished (wasting my time is a punishment) for collecting resources and chests that are literally seconds to tens-of-seconds apart only to get nothing because I already collected one after a public event/scavenger chest/high value target chest or because I already collected 4 that were all jumping distance from each other. But, can someone direct me to where this was actually acknowledged, as I cannot find it. Thanks in advance

Confirmed. Seeing this a lot as well. At least the empty alkanes I’m farming count towards the challenge.....

ive never encounted this and i run from hvt to public event to chest etc. I loot everything and never got an empty chest or cooldown or what not

Happens way too often to be unintentional, kinda like rng dropping same thing 4-5 times in a row, but I digress 2 years to create game and they flubbed one of the key reasons we play....LOOT.

Do a public event and as soon as you collect the loot, fast travel to the nearest point and join the same public event again. You might have to fast travel a few times before it works. But one time I was able to complete 5 heroics in 5 minutes. Instant exotics

14 RepliesThey literally give you a ghost that will help find chests, you can buy maps to help locate chests, and they mark caydes treasures chests on the map. Then they penalize you for farming them!! So many terrible decisions in Destiny 2 that it's not even funny any more.

I so agree with this. They have you farm resources as a challenge yet they only let you pick up a few in the area before you can't collect them anymore. It's a terrible thing they added.

It's hilarious because farming faction marks and mats don't even increase your power level as you're soft capped and can only do weekly activities to level up, so it's f*cking pointless to have cooldowns anyway.

I think Cayde’s Chest pull from a larger more random loot pool, and that includes getting nothing. That seems to be Cayde’s kind of joke and the randomness is like playing scratch off lotteries. Don’t buy the maps if you can’t take the risk, Cayde even says, “no refunds” for a reason!

yeah, I didn't tink it made sense either, given that you can buy a 4 hour buff to find chests, aka scoting reports. ???? Confused.com

With all the nonsensical and downright unnecessary changes made to Destiny 2... It's not hard to come to the conclusion that the PvP and to some degree Story came first to the developers, with everything else an afterthought made arbitrarily slow through downright needless "design choices". The cynic in me thinks they purposely made terrible "design choices" for the sake of making dlc more appealing, especially if said dlc "fixes" the perceived "problems". In a similar fashion to how Taking King, and then Rise of Iron fixed alot of what was wrong with Destiny 1, but weren't covered by the "Season Pass", which ultimately defeated the entire purpose of a "SeasonPass". We've paid for the game, so they have little stopping them from [u]selling[/u] us the fix if we "[i]Want the game to be good[/i]" enough.
