So I play a good amount of MMO's and in most games that allow a race selection there are perks for picking one race over another. Some examples would be: Skyrim, World of Warcraft, Star Craft, D&D etc.
And what perk would you pick?
EDIT: Some fun ones I've heard before:
Exo: show resource nodes on mini map.
Human: increased XP gains towards weapon nodes.
Awoken: sub titles when awoken speak. Night vision.

Night vision for the awoken seems kinda useless compared to the others, when you could just pull your ghost out as a flashlight.
-
why is it always about race

4 RepliesWhite is a race of its own. What do we get?
-
5 RepliesI wouldn't, however I would add certain traits. Examples: Humans: sprint faster and move faster while crouching. Awoken: melee and grenade animation is faster. Exo: switches weapons faster and has better handling. Something along those lines would be kind of nice.
-
Hard no from me. I'd rather not feel forced to pick a race in the name of min/maxing.
-
I like this idea, but feel that if one trait was better than one or two others, than we would find ourselves with a huge margin between one race and the next. If the traits didn't effect gameplay to where, say, one race ran faster or had faster recharge times passively, then it could work. With the changes to subclasses though in regards to titans setting up barriers and hunters dodging, it works better with "class traits".
-
Probably not. Given how obsessed people are with hammering out any sign of uniqueness, and demanding fairness, any more variation at this point would just be another thing for Bungie to have to nerf in a few months.

Edited by JackofSwords: 8/9/2017 12:34:56 AMThe problem with racial perks and destiny is the perk needs to be class neutral. In D&D or Elder Scrolls certain races had abilities that made playing a certain class like a wizard more beneficial. Choosing to be an elf wizard gives me an advantage over a half Orc wizard. Destiny isn't about Exo's being better suited as Titans, or Awoken better suited as Warlocks. Destiny is all about equality. If an Awoken Titan goes toe to toe with an Exo Titan, it comes down to your personal skill and not any advantages about being Exo or Awoken. This is 100% Destiny. So the perks have to be non-combat oriented. Like Awoken upgrade gear at 10% less glimmer costs. Useful, but doesn't give you a PVP or PVE advantage. Humans can hold more glimmer, again having a larger wallet is useful, but doesn't really give you an advantage over the awoken in this example. Both perks offset each other. One can do things cheaper, the other just has more money to do it with. Neither of these examples make choosing a warlock over a Hunter a factor in your decision because the perks don't help your class, just you. For Exo's, all I could come up with was Exo's can talk to all frames. Every time you walk by a frame it says something random. Kind of cool and probably an encouragement to make an Exo if only to hear some random comments, but not enough to sway you from making an awoken either. If the perks start affecting combat, than the game becomes more like D&D or WoW where theory craft takes over. It also leads to regretting your choice after six months because you didn't understand how Destiny "worked." So in answer to your question, maybe. So long as the perks are non-combat oriented.

If that maybe the case, let’s have every guardian have two super abilities: Their usual subclass super and their race specific super, although the race specific super would be weaker than the subclass super. For example, the race specific super would charge 15% faster than the subclass super. Humans: They would have the ability to charge their abilities faster, and increase effectiveness on handling for a short time once used. Awokens: They would have the ability to seek through walls and obstacles, and increase effectiveness on handling for a short time once used. Exos: They would have the ability to move faster and slide further, and increase effectiveness on handling for a short time once used.

I play games to get a break from the real world.

1 ReplyNo. I don't want to lose another piece of character customisation to gameplay.
RIP Class items:(
I always thought that Exos should have more resilience. I mean they're machines that shouldn't be able to feel pain right? They should be able to lose an arm and keep on fighting.

10 RepliesSome of the skyrim ones were completely useless as other than some fun.. looking at you argonian and wood elf.. some were a great way to get high level gear/advantages wayyy to early.. orc and Breton.. if they balance I could see it working.
-
If your a human, you get the special ability of "entitlement" you believe that if one of your squadmates earns a weapon you wanted, you can directly take it from them without take backs. If your an exo you have the ability to see through walls and radar is always active, but when you take damage your radar and vision crack until you respawn. If your an awoken, you get to shout at your enemies words of..."disapproval" when they kill you or attack you, but those words encourage your allies and give them extra power.
-
Err simply put, no, terrible idea. Anything that gives others the excuse not to want you for raids is a really bad idea. Cant you see it now? Must have gjallarhorn, Must be awoken titan? Without bungie giving us a way to change your guardians race and appearance in game, it would just create issues.

Absolutely not
-
I'd rather not

1 ReplyNo. Cosmetic choices that have gameplay advantages cease to be cosmetic choices.
-
Edited by Unbreakable Patches: 8/7/2017 6:50:17 AMI'd honestly prefer they remain cosmetic.
-
Edited by Swiftlock: 8/7/2017 7:08:40 PMIf the racial perks only had minor effects that don't really effect combat, then that's fine. If the racial perks offered notable advantages in PvP, now you're asking for problems.
-
This would be really cool.
-
2 RepliesNo we are all the same race to bungie. Consumers.
-
They should, but bungies lazy, so no
-
Armor/weapon/class abiltiies would overwhelm the significance of any "racial" talents. ...and if they didn't, the PVP crowd would whine until they were nerfed into insignificance. Just look at what the Trials crowd twisted Bungie's arm into doing with class abilities in Destiny 1.....

7 RepliesSince the game isn't a MMO ... I don't see the point
