I mistakenly left the handbrake on and drove for 45 minutes to university. I only realised something was wrong when I shifted from 5th down to 4th gear whilst exiting the motorway, at which point my brakes completely failed and I had to quickly switch down to 2nd and then 1st and rely on the engine brake.
It was the most terrifying experience of my life, I nearly crashed into the back of a stopped car at 90km/h.
So how was your day? Hopefully much better than mine.

1 ReplyThe fact that you didnt realize your handbrake was engaged shows what kind of driver you are. Helpful hint. The lights and beeping noises on your dashboard instrument cluster tells you some things.

1 ReplyEdited by GarrisonWhite2: 3/24/2017 12:31:38 AMStayed up late writing a paper. Started feeling sick again because I haven't fully gotten over the cold I've had for two weeks now. Then the class got cancelled. So now I feel like shit and didn't even need to have had the paper done. Oh, and one of my other classes got cancelled too. I decided against checking my email, could've slept some.
Glad you survived OP. That sounds terrifying.
1 ReplyJeez!! That's terrifying. Makes me more scared when I get to learn how to drive a car in the summer. Still though, had to work all day long on a project.

3 RepliesWhat were you in? Sounds like you were in a semi. In which case, you should've been fine. The car in front of you would've been a grease spot.

Edited by Seldser: 3/23/2017 9:06:21 PMEarlier this month I mistook a two way stop sign for a four way and was nearly t-boned by a truck. It was my fault, I was tired and stressed so I was struggling to focus.

1 ReplyI can't even get out of first with my brake on. How did you manage fourth?

1 ReplyHow did you not notice the nauseating smell of burnt brakes? Also, the front brakes do most of the braking and the E brake only affects the rear brakes.
