This was posted in response to if Bungie is going to do something about magnetism/aim assist on grenades.
@Big_Plays_Ron That's tracking, technically. We know it can be frustrating to get stuck and killed. It's on the list, but not coming asap.
-Josh Hamrick
So there are a couple of things here, not the least of which is that sticky grenades are going to be nerfed at some point because dying is frustrating.
If that's really a reason to ruin weapons and abilities people like to use, what's the point?
And I'm not trying to be a dick to Bungie or Hamrick about it and I hope that people curtail the calls for jobs, but honestly I think this statement shows how little Bungie understand about why players love playing their characters so much.
The fact is it's frustrating dying to anything, so where does the rabbit hole end?
Nerf stickies now, but then how fair is axion tracking? Isn't it frustrating being chased across the map by seekers?
Then Lightning Grenades will have to go because it's frustrating that I can't recognize that I just got hit by a pulse and step 2 feet to either side.
And don't get me started on Suppression Grenades, it's really frustrating not being able to jump, super or use my own grenades for like 5 hours after getting hit by one. That has gotta go.
Sticky grenades have been in the game since launch. They've never been a problem. So why now?
Which leads to the other big issue with balance philosophy.
Who exactly are Bungie balancing Destiny for?
I know there's been a lot of debate over this, but who did lessening sbmm benefit?
The majority of casual players?
Why did Sunsingers (and DoTs in general), MIDA, Thorn, rez shields, special ammo, shotguns and snipers all get nerfed?
Trials.
And why are sticky grenades suddenly an issue?
Funny how Triplewreck started calling for their nerf last week and suddenly something everyone can use that performs the same for everyone and has been a non-issue since launch, and is FUN, is now being looked at and on a list to be nerfed.
Datto didn't like our Sunsingers, they frustrated him.
Dr Lupo and TW didn't like sbmm, playing equal competition frustrated them.
It's one thing to say streamers and "content creators" don't have influence in dictating play, but I'm having trouble not seeing the correlation.
Then there's the decision to remove special ammo on death to "promote primary usage", but they let Sidearms keep their ammo and start with it after every death, which in turn has just made everyone run sidearms 24/7
You can't make statements that you want NLB to perform like other snipers because you want consistency across the class and then make changes to Specials but exclude one... Where's the consistency there?
I've said time and again I understand that they're trying to just get D1 to the finish line and shaking up metas is easier than creating new content, but honestly this is the first time I've really been worried about what D2 will be if anything fun is going to be targeted for a nerf because it's "frustrating" dying to it and the players making livings pub stomping are allowed to dictate how we play.

One of my favorites: "We feel slower gameplay is what Destiny should be, so we are nerfing things" But yet they did and said this: "Yeah, we were tweaking with game setting and came up with mayhem mode where you get all your abilities back super fast and heavy spawns a lot. It was really fun so we are adding it to crucible" Well which is it? Slow is better, but mayhem is awesome fun? (I was paraphrasing, obviously)

The fact that Bungie seems to only have ears to these 'streamers/content creators' is extremely sad. If Destiny 2 is a fail, Bungie will have no one to blame but themselves. They have continued to ignore the PvE players, despite being majority, since the beginning to the point where a large number of players have moved on to other games for PvE content and experience. People have started loosing their trust in Bungie for that same reason. Games are for fun and taking stress out from our lives. Exactly the opposite is happening in Destiny right now. Hurts as I have had real fun times in this game and made some good friends across continents. As far as the Dev team at Bungie goes, I have no idea how things even happen at Bungie. Anyone seems to have authority to make changes to the game as they feel. I remember Deej saying in Y1 "We want you to be powerful...'' on these lines. If anything, they have made us weak in PvE due to these constant PvP nerfs. I hope D2 has PvE and PvP completely separated. This way they can do what so ever they want with PvP.
-
Yeah, I don't get it either. I find it frustrating getting killed 5 times in a row by supers in a game. That literally happened to me last week in a match. That doesn't mean I'm going to demand nerfs to all supers. That's just part of the game. What's the goal here? Take out all frustrations from Destiny? Okay, nobody dies from now on and we just score hits. Let's also have pillows, safe spaces and therapy puppies throughout the Crucible to make sure nobody ever gets frustrated. No matter what the outcome of each match, everyone gets a win and exotics. We can make it just like Tee Ball.

I haven't been able to stick anyone since 6/14/2016. How stupid is that? The sticky grenade with the LEAST magnetism and HIGHEST propensity to kill its own user got nerfed. I'm not calling for the nerfing of other sticky grenades, just pointing out this fact. This is what happens when you knock over Special Weapons. People inevitably look for the next fastest methods for killing someone. Sticky grenades, grenades, supers, heavy, they're all next in line. I disagree with your notions that nobody needs to lose their jobs over the balancing patches. We keep allowing the same people to do the same exact thing over and over and over again, and we keep expecting different results. That's the very definition of insanity! If the sandbox team is entirely incapable of changing their balancing philosophy or giving PVE players the proper respect they deserve, then it's time to get a new sandbox team. Until they do this, we can't expect different results. [Edit] Can we just get it all over with already and give EVERY single guardian god mode/invincibility in PVP so that nobody has to die to anything? And every PVP match can end in a 0-0 tie? I don't think that the PVP community will be happy until something extreme like this shows exactly how ridiculous they are when it comes to their crying about dying in PVP.

14 RepliesI respectfully disagree with this thread. I feel bungie does a great job balancing the game. What they do not do is a great job communicating and remaining transparent with the community about their grand scheme. I see a portion of the community essentially dissatisfied with every single balance patch that comes out for one reason or another. Though I may not agree with the specific way the game recently changed, I feel they did an awesome job changing things up. They will never be able to make everyone happy.
Who exactly are Bungie balancing Destiny for?
If you haven’t realized it after nearly three years, they are adjusting the mechanics of the game such that graphs of each weapon/ability etc are distributed in a evenly in a statistical form as proof the game is balanced. There is no other way to balance a game with this other than using empirical data. You cannot balance a game like this off subjective data. Every single time the community overuses something it gets taken down so that other weapons/abilities are used in their place. Even though this game is entirely about the fastest time to kill, they don’t want everyone using the same thing. I 100% agree with this philosophy. No matter what happens, no matter that current meta, people will ALWAYS find the most efficient way to kill stuff in a first person shooter. This will lead people to using the same-old loadouts over time. I do not want to play a game where everyone is using the same stuff.
honestly I think this statement shows how little Bungie understand about why players love playing their characters so much.
100% disagree with this. I think they fully understand given the amount of criticism they receive. Bungie is forced in between a rock and a hard place when taking actions to balance the game. Why would they want to make the game such that everyone will ultimately settle with the same subclass, same weapons, and same playstyle over time and not do anything to change it? They are essentially required to change the game up at some point or it will get boring. Over time people will figure out the most efficient wat to kill stuff no matter the meta.
Sticky grenades have been in the game since launch. They've never been a problem. So why now? And why are sticky grenades suddenly an issue?
As I said before; no matter what happens, no matter that current meta, people will ALWAYS find the most efficient way to kill stuff in a first person shooter. Right now, in this meta where special ammo is scarce as it has ever been, people are scrambling to get their one-shot-kills in any manner they can. One-shot-kills are king in PVP, and will always be until bungies decides to remove that feature from the game altogether. Lacking special ammo, the next best place to get said kills is with abilities. Combine that with the nerf to armor, and you can clearly see why people are choosing sticky especially given the absurd tracking that has always been there. The tracking on sticky has always been an issue. However, in previous metas a sticky grenade was not necessarily the best choice. A sticky used to not be able to kill a high armor guardian. Now they can. There used to be shotgun warriors around every corner. Now there isn’t, so people can peek out with the quickness and throw a sticky faster than you can counter with a sidearm.

Edited by toughonstains632: 2/23/2017 4:16:55 AMAhh , you're all over the place. You think these changes cater to the hardcore, but you're putting up notions about things that protect the casuals...? Yes, the ''buffs'' to primaries absolutely helped the more skilled, but the game also took several steps back to cater to the casual players. If you think the dial back in SBMM in December stuck, you're completely wrong. As soon as The Dawning ended, SBMM was cranked back up again. Any tweaks that exist towards the more CBMM is just to coincide with a lessening playerbase. The hardcore wanted buffs everywhere. Not nerfs to anything. They wanted things rolled back to better times, like year 1. So of course when mechanics [Initial target acquisition on Handcannons] come back, the hardcore is going to praise it. Don't be fooled, the majority of the balance changes they make are for reasons you state: People complaining about dying to x thing. Hardcore does not complain about strong mechanics, it's more of the casual players that do. The hardcore just doesn't want simplistic things to stand out like a sore thumb that forces certain playstyles because they are literally that much more effective than running something else. We want our guns to be our primary source of kills. Not grenades, not supers, and not melee abilities. Year 1 had that figured out. It got dirty when they tried to make the game slower paced and in-turn, created more imbalance than existed within the meta in year 1....they did that for casuals.

If they had of thought things through from the start - It would have had gone something like this. Pve and pvp had separate damage models. * Flame bolts wouldn't have been crazy in pvp. Leading to a blanket nerf on the whole sunsingers set up. Same with a large portion of weapons. Hand cannons for example got nuked because of two hard hitters then coming back full circle to the new update virtually removing all those changes anyway. * axion bolts wouldn't have given another grenade and track for days. Using class perks turns the void bomber into a grenade flinging whore lock. * lightning nades blast radius would match the visual animation. Getting nuked through walls and at ranges a sniper would be proud of....... * spike nades for hunters would disappear (and so would the actual damage) invis grenades are great...... The damage time isn't matching the animation. I mean there is so much wrong with crucible now it's not even funny. Not even mentioning special weapons which is solely side arms now.

Spot on every damn word.... problem is bungie is to damn stupid to see what they have done and continue to do to this game of which could have been a finely polished masterpiece but instead its a glitch fest disorganized nitemare run by morons that continue to do everything to piss off the main player base... at this point i hope they crash and burn so maybe someone could pick up this franchise and "MAKE DESTINY GEEAT AGAIN" U FUKIN INCOMPETENT MORONS!
-
I agree with you completely. I would also add that if they really wanted to encourage primary usage, they should give us primaries that are and were worth using (clever dragon, year one suros, year one hawkmoon and thorn for example).

3 RepliesEdited by abyssasylum: 2/23/2017 2:23:58 AMWe all have the same weapons and abilities. Frustrated? Well then own your game and improve your skill... because nerfs apply to everyone, including you. Bump.

26 RepliesThey are balancing the game for the casual players and SBMM is to protect them from skilled players. SBMM frustrates upper tier players because of how bad the connections in P2P become when you have such a limited pool of players to matchmake. To be fair, this game is NOT competitive so it really should be ALL CBMM and then maybe I could find a game that isnt in progress or doesnt take a solid 5 minutes to get players together. And the answer is NOT private matches. Sticky grenades need to have the aim assist removed, it should have never been in the game to begin with. They are extremely easy to use and provide a OHK and should operate more like tripmines used to (which is a whole other topic). But my problem with the incoming sticky nerf is that they are eventually going to nerf everything because people get killed in PVP. And that is a terrible mindset, everyone cannot have a great time in PVP all the time. It is the nature of the beast, there is risk and reward. Sometimes gunfights do not go your way, it doesnt mean the gun the other guy is using should explode in his hand on the third shot. Balance the weapons, the abilities, and subclasses. Look at the crucible objectively, not "this gun is being used by 60% of people so it needs a nerf." Bring other weapons and abilities UP.

9 RepliesEdited by RavenousLD3341: 2/22/2017 2:15:28 PMThey just don't get it. They don't get it at all. They seem to want to target the .8-1.2 second TTK mark, however..... they have 2 weapon slots that kill 33% faster than that, and in turn have repeatedly, i will say it again, repeatedly nerfed special weapons/heavy weapons/abilities/heavy ammo/special ammo to push players toward the weapons that fall in this TTK range, while actually doing nothing to bring all of their weapons in line with that vision. Clearly at this point they will need to choose. Nerf everything to fit in the .8-1.2 sec TTK OR Buff Primary weapons to compete directly with other weapon slots. When we look at what the players are actually using, they appear to WANT a faster TTK, a faster game, a MORE LETHAL crucible. Then those same players come here and say "we don't want CoD, keep primary TTKs horrible" Then they turn right around equip a Universal Remote/Sidearm and run a .5-.8 sec TTK loadout. It's ridiculous. I'll keep saying it. The eternal special weapon meta, is a side effect of weak primaries. The constant screwing around with everything that isn't a primary weapon, at this point, makes about as much sense as a football bat. In fact it's extremely telling that people would rather equip a No Land Beyond in the most "competetive" (lol) mode in the game, Trials, over any other primary. This is a joke right? The No Land Beyond is preferred over every other primary in the game? How sad is that? Here is my recommendation. 1. Need a patch that makes Universal Remote/No Land Beyond/Vex Mythoclast so that they aren't affected by Small Arms, and in stead are affected by Specialist. Sleeper Simulant is now effected by Specialist
This is do achieve a few goals. It'll make more options for unique load-outs when specialist is up in weekly playlists. Also, To prevent people from getting body shot killed by the NLB from the next suggestion.
2. Following this patch, Bring us a Small Arms Clash weekly playlist. Offer a special reward for participating in <X> number of matches. (I would prefer Small Arms IRON BANNER Clash)
This will give us a chance to see the game with powerful and deadly primaries. It will give you turds the necessary data to make what will likely be a poor decision.
Just do it. I promise no one will die. (in real life) Imagine it. Handcannons 2 banging everyone Autos killing people in 5 or less shots All pulses 2 bursting Scouts 2-3 shotting It would be sooooo much fun.

It's the ones always bitching and whining about every fu@king thing in Destiny that are ruining this game. It's because of them that everything we like to use gets nerfed into the ground (i.e.Truth). If, those ft's complained that much about about the server issues maybe Bungie would "fix" that instead but all we ever see is shit like this about about sticky nades and what not. WA WA WAAA Smh sissy ass kids. Honestly, just play the damn game, stfu with the crying and have fun.

But it hurts people's feelings getting stuck :c

2 Repliesbungie needs to nerf sparrows, my friend killed me with his and it ruined my whole destiny experience. I've sold the game and now i'll make a thirty paragraph post saying that I quit destiny.

The Terrace and Philip accent really sold that clip!! Awesome..

Edited by Mmm Toasty: 2/22/2017 9:37:09 PMFor some reason people still don't understand that latency is such a major issue halting further actual Balance and forming biased opinions. I personally can't really make many opinions on what strong and what codes need work when I play this lag fest. Look at sticky grenades. Games have had sticky grenades forever. Why is it so annoying in destiny? Because they recharge. So that guy who doesn't use his gun, and runs around sticking people all game, is extremely annoying, but also a lot of fun lol. What about nerfs and buffs?... Some people want tracking nerfed? For whatever reason. They're annoying and no, they don't take much skill unless throwing at moving targets from a distance. So why do I find them annoying? Because they kill me? No. Because they kill in 1 greande? No. It's because I can't dodge them., even when I feel like I dodged it. For example... someone keeps sticking me. Next time I see him, I evade jump and do all kinds of crazy movements while he is mid throw. There's no way so many players were able to consistantly adjust their aim and predict what movement direction and speed I would move in. Then when you watch their stream, you see he stuck you before you jumped or moved or you watch the grenade take a violent turn at the last second. There is trqcking, but anyone who knows how proper tracking works, also knows proper tracking can always be dodged given proper movement. Now for me, given my bias would ask for a nerf to sticky grenades, tracking specifically. But when I look at it from the outside and remember latency. What's happening alot is the person is sticking before you move on their screen, because he is a second ahead of you. So no matter what you do, you're stuck. You cannot dodge it, because he throws it a second before you see him throwing it. This is why forming an actual opinion on buffs and nerfs for most things in destiny is extremely difficult for the community. Here's another. Shotguns. Shotguns were definitely overused, which was extremely annoying. But everyone saw the rise in nerf posts. I didn't understand it. Ya when I shoot you from 15 ft out and you die with full health, I can see why nerf might come to play. But then the next battle where my shotgun doesn't even do half damage to a target 2 ft in front of, well now I could see need for a buff. Things are just inconsistant and don't work properly in the range and aspects of play they are supposed to. So how can you say what's good and what's bad, when the effectiveness of most weapons and abilities change on a per game basis? Just doesn't make sense. Game is laggy. Why are you talking about guns being strong or not. You don't even know how it's gonna work next game.

Edited by ChiknStew29: 2/23/2017 9:53:38 AM^ this you would think that someone, ANYONE, at Bungie has to know this or thought it or had someone else on their team say it in passing at some point... because people have been talking about nerfs and the degenerating aspect that it's bringing to Destiny for a long, looooong, time. I can remember towards the end of year one, when a post from Bungie rolled out saying that they wanted players to give them feedback on how they see Destiny evolving, what are players favorite things to do, etc., and told us that they were listening and trying to work with us on creating our Legends!! most players whose posts I read were talking about the need for more content, bigger maps, a reduction in the error codes and being kicked out to orbit in the middle of raids, more customization options, a reason to grind for Exotics when they didn't feel all that special... and we got a reply back saying that they heard us!! so they gave us weapon nerfs... my first thought (that I posted as well) was, "who the hell asked for that?!". no one answered that, though.
-
All these "content creators" or "leeches" do is create a term that creates hype and hope their channels grow from that. I havent seen one youtuber demand new content over the nerfs and buffs. I take people who use words like that as children. They dont comprehend competition or value. How can these "creators" defend demanding monthly tweeks of day 1 reskinned content and removal of purchased items when they could have easily asked for new content as an alternative? Rhetorical

10 RepliesIn many ways, the problem isn't those streamers. (I've never, will never watch that shite, and I'm sure they are a bunch of worthless individuals.) The problem is all the brown nosers, the village idiots, the mouthbreathing basementdwelling wastes of resources that watch them. Arseholes watching arseholes....

Agreed, the "balance" is great if you love sidearms.....otherwise you BETTER love sidearms 😉

4 RepliesI've had an issue with sticky grenades since day one. You can miss by 10 feet and still stick the guy. I remember back in the days of Halo, and other FPS in that time period, when sticky grenades had no magnetism or aim assist or any of that. It took real timing and skill to throw a plasma grenade and get someone on the head. You were proud of yourself that you actually killed the guy with a plasma. Nowadays, you just need to be in the general vicinity and you get the sticky kill. It's cheap and casual. As someone who could land plasma grenades in Halo, the current sticky grenades in Destiny are laughably easy to use. And there's no proud feeling. Just being glad that your throw was close enough to trigger the magnetism, and feeling frustrated when you're killed by stickies because they're so easy to use. Back in Halo? You couldn't zip past a doorway, throw a sticky, trigger magnetism because it was only close to the guy, and then be 10 feet away by the time it goes off. The person could actually dodge the grenade in Halo, or you'd just miss entirely. Suppression Grenades are fine though. Just hunker down, sprint away, or go for headshots. Lightning Grenades need a change though. You can be 500 miles away and still get hit. That lightning bolt that shows isn't the real damage cone and range. It goes on longer and wider than that.
-
2 RepliesSee this is where it is all wrong people get on here pointing fingers at each other and being toxic towards each other all day everyday. If you feel like pointing a finger loaded with blame point it in the correct direction, streamers play the game like everyone else, it is not the casuals, streamers, sweats, hardcore that are ruining the game if you want to point the correct direction point it at bungie not each other they are the ones that deal with the coding of the game just saying .
-
8 RepliesI think bungie needs to do a lot of tweaking on the one hit kill weapons. Mainly these fusion grenades, nlb, wombo combo, etc. Yes, all grenades can be frustrating to deal with but they are not one hill kill weapons. Giving one hit kill potential to fusions, and making them exceptionally easy to use reduces the skill gap in this game. The same goes for wombo combo. People complain because the feature is so easy to use and puts you at a disadvantage if you're not using it. They need to be a lot more careful BEFORE releasing these one hit kill weapons and do a lot more testing on them so that they get released relatively balanced.

Have to agree with all of this
