So I just created a character and noticed a thing. When an enemy drops a (white) gun I am able to immediately equip it. I can test how it feels and all that right away. Why am I not experiencing that on my main character? Oh, right...
When I get a legendary gun, most of the time its a blamming engram that I dont give a blam about. Why? Because to actually get to using it I have to:
1) get to the end of current activity (or just leave)
2) go to orbit
3) choose a social space with a cryptarch
4) wait 89 years till it loads
5) go to cryptarch
6) open the engram
7) decide which activity do I want to do next
8) go to orbit
9) choose that activity
10) wait another 89 years for it to load
11) finally get to trying out the gun
When with any white gun to use it you have to:
1) go to your inventory
2) equip the gun
3) thats it!
Destiny as far as I know is a looter shooter. The shooter part is done well. But the looter is not quite. I feel like when an enemy drops a legendary, player should see an actual gun icon with a name pop up on the right instead of just a default looking image of an engram that means nothing. Player should be able to instantly grab dropped gun and pop some fallen heads with it. Maybe its just me but I think that would make the game way more enjoyable. Blam all that cryptarch/engram bs! Just give players actual loot!
Edit: I understand that this is not the biggest problem with destiny atm. But I hope it will get solved in d2.
Also if they want to keep the cryptarch and engrams system I think they should make legendaries drop as weapons that are ready to be used and make engrams ultra rare and valuable. They would contain maybe slightly better legendaries and would actually be worthy of the time to get to the cryptarch.
Edit2: I like this idea(by RedhorseRaven14):
I still enjoy the mystery, how about a Ghost with a decrypt perk?
That way you could choose to have all engrams immediately decrypt, or stay with the mystery prize system.
I think that it would be cool if they got rid of engrams except for exotics. Keep some mystery in it.

2 RepliesSee if it was like borderlands which has the best randomized loot system that is fair as hell. Sometimes getting the legendary weapons takes a little farming or sometimes long farming, but at least it's possible. I love that series so much

2 RepliesHow about we have it like Diablo 3? When a legendary drops you don't see what it is, instead it's named "???" and to find out what it is, you have to "discover" it. So why don't we just have that system in Destiny? When an Exotic drops, that'd be a good excuse to make us visit a Cryptarch. Legendaries should be obtained as normal but you should instantly have it added to your inventory (like challenge mode King's Fall) Not only would this be an easy change but we could also keep that blue bastard "useful". Thoughts?

4 RepliesEdited by Ramudaji: 2/6/2017 11:02:09 AMEngram should be usable. Equiped should they look like dirty and rusty versions of the gear they could be. Just without perks like white gear. Ah decripting system like in fantasy star online would be great. There should be an engram for any weapon type as well for this to work.

4 RepliesEdited by Ve7n00m: 2/6/2017 3:50:07 PMIt's called making small content seem bigger, Bungie are excellent at it! Why is it that Eris can talk to us on the way down to a mission but we have to go back to the Tower to turn it in, did our phone break mid mission or something?

13 RepliesI like this, but you missed a step! Step: spend twenty minutes moving things around in your completely full inventory and gun slots, just to be able to get the engrams from the Mail Bot! Make sure and delete some guns you wanted to keep, or that had great memories attached to them along the way! 😉

1 ReplyWhite and green guns only drop and are equipable early game. And there might be 100's of guns in destiny, but they all fall into just a handfull of archetypes. By the time were experienced in blues and purples, we pretty much know how each gun will feel and handle. Like, if you picked up a high rof ar, you pretty much already know how bullet hose ar's handle in destiny. Get what i mean?
-
1 ReplyYeah, that's not the way Destiny plays. Destiny wants you playing as long as possible.

Edited by TeddyBundy: 2/6/2017 12:56:42 AMEngrams shouldn't be a thing imo. There should be at least an auto-decrypt option. Also, this weapon/gear leveling shit annoys me even more. Why do I have to use 60-80 Motes or grind bounties for weeks instead just to use my gear? It's just a stupid way to keep us grinding.

8 RepliesYou don't have much experience with loot based games, many of them won't let you change your gear or skills while you're in an activity, so this is nothing new by any means.
-
1 ReplyI thought this was going to be some sort of post about a wife that plays destiny with you and the rewards you get from her in RL like pies and dishes being washed and stuff.
-
1 ReplyI have great loading times so it really doesn't effect me. It usually takes around 30 seconds
-
5 Replies89 years? It's more like 10 seconds to 2 minutes at most.
You've over-exaggerated.
-
2 RepliesThat gun you can't use right away helps to increase your reputation with the cryptard. Which means more loot. Is this your only real gripe?
-
2 RepliesYou poor bastard! I sincerely feel awful for your inconvenience. You are the victim here, I hope you get everything you want.

1 ReplyEdited by GrundleBeans: 2/4/2017 10:38:31 PMNote that there are several activities where the rewards at the end are decoded immediately and can be equipped. Excluding NF, they're also a playlist that keeps going, so you can have minimal time in orbit and go straight into the next activity to try out your new gear. But, you're right. It's kinda crappy that 90% of drops are all engrams that have to be decoded and nothing you can pick up in a patrol can be equipped unless you're a low level. Plus once you're above 385, the cryptarch is fairly useless other than to claim glimmer and occasionally get motes/coins from turning in engrams. I don't think they should do away with picking up engrams, but maybe mix them up a bit or give us a way (in D2) to decode things right away.

1 ReplyI'd overhaul the weapon system for D2 honestly. No more engram nonsense. It takes all hoy from drops. Oh a purple!! Oh I'll just have to wait 15 mins to see what I got😩 No more leveling up weapons. There's just no need to sit and level a weapon with motes. It's no big deal either but just be gone with it. But please give us customizable weapons in D2!! And not skins. Barrels, ect.. It would add so much life to this game, well for me anyway.

1 ReplyYou're on a legacy console, aren't you? While loading times can be irksome on current-gen, it's WAY better than last-gen times.

I just made a new account and definitely know where you're coming from. It's the little things.

Engrams are not the items they decrypt into. They are the possibility of items. I like the fact that I can play at one LL, testing guns, perking up gear, or just fooling around, and still go max LL and get the higher level gear when I decrypt. The armor section of my vault is full of purples and golds that my Hunter picked up that I will eventually use when I finally get around to playing my alts. Developer wise it has got to be much more practical to determine what loot drops in the form of an engram rather than tailoring each situation to individual guns and gear. For instance, if such and such happens, there is a 50% chance of no drop, a 35% chance of a blue drop, a 14% chance for a purple drop, and 1% for an exotic. This way you can use the same tables for all lvl 40 characters. The actual gear, perks, and light levels can be determined when the engrams are decrypted. It's a much more efficient system than resolving individual outcomes on the spot. Of course they do do that in more contained and structured environments. After event rewards are actual level specific gear, but they don't have to generate results during the actual activity. I'm not saying dropping specific gear is a bad idea. But remember, every instance of the same lower level gear has the same perks, making the possible drop table much smaller and easier to resolve. I don't mind waiting if it means the variety of gear is greater and the gameplay is smoother. I would like to be able to set filters to automatically save or dismantle gear on decryption. I would be a charter member of the Trash your Matador club.
