Holy -blam!-ing shit this is getting annoying. People complaining weapons don't take skill. Everything takes a different skill set. Just because you are bad at that skill, doesn't mean it doesn't take ANY skill. Low entry point and high ceiling is the perfect design in a video game. Lemme break this down in what skill set the weapons take specials and primaries. Let's begin
Auto Rifles: Rewards target tracking
Hand cannons: reward precision and patience. Spamming is punished especially at range
Pulse Rifles: reward precision shots and excellent target acquisition
Scouts: reward precision shots and positioning of your character
Shotguns: Reward fast, precision movement and reaction times. Baiting corners
Aleclev with a good sidearm explanation:
Sidearms: Rewards good radar reading and good recoil control. Being able to put yourself just outside of shotgun range.
Fusion Rifles: reward target tracking and movement prediction, as well as quick reaction times
Sniper Rifles: reward precision aim and positioning of the user. Punished if challenging with many open sightlines because you are easily flinched.
Tldr: every weapon takes a different skill set to use. Weapons descriptions are above. This was not in the post but I'm putting here as a friendly reminder. Low entry point high ceiling characters and weapons are how video games should be made.
Edit :I left this post a day and a half ago. Wow did not expect this to trend. My god
Edit: Holy shit people you guys and gals are nuts. This was supposed to be merely just an observation after playing a decent amount with each weapon. No they don't all have the same kill numbers. But I have played each of the special weapon types a good amount
Edit: a guardian said where did all the sbmm post go.
I ended their passage to the lighthouse
But being an asshole takes skill. You're trying to nerf assholeness. :)

Edited by Tamacountry: 11/16/2016 5:47:45 AMI hate how people think Shotguns take no skill. If they took no skill every single Shotgun vs Shotgun encounter would end with both killing each other, I outgun Shotgunners with my Shotgun all the time. 60% of the shotgunners I vs don't even know how to do it properly and I can kill with my primary before they get to me. If they took no skill shotgunners should kill everything else all the time
-
This is true everything takes different skills. Some skills are easier to obtain than others, like rushing with a shotgun for example very easy to obtain.
-
2 RepliesUnfortunately, with this game it seems as if timeing and being on the good side of lag is what takes the most skill. Can't tell you how many times I pull the trigger and a second later get killed without my shot going off.

3 RepliesEdited by TheArtist: 11/15/2016 4:43:54 PMYou're using (very good I might add) rational and logical arguments..... ...to try to talk people out of things they do for EMOTIONAL reasons. People do that because it softens the blow to their self-image that failure in competitive environment can create. Easier to say, "I lost because of that guy's OP weapon and cheap tactics..." Instead of having to admit, "I lost because he's simply better than me, and kicked my ass." Feels better. But taking that route doesn't make you better as a player.

1 ReplyEquipping clever dragon takes no skill

I like this guy he gets it that I take skill using a shotgun ( btw I was using a shotgun before shotguns were named shotguns :p )
-
8 RepliesTrue but I believe the reason as to why people complain about shotguns specifically is simply because primaries are maybe a bit too weak to take out a Titan with Jug shield running at you and then sliding into you. Now there are guns that do an excellent job at taking out these types of players. For example: Last Word if you can land headshots as they're coming at you Eyasluna:Mostly just because mine has Luck in The Chamber and Underdog with Rifled Barrel Clever Dragon:Anything sliding at you,you just eat it up because you'll most likely be landing easy headshots Doctrine of Passing:Yes,it got a nerf but it still shreds shotgun rushers And that's my opinion on this matter.

Quit being an asshole? Ya right. Look who you're talking to man. The Internet. Asshole is almost a requirement to use it.

4 RepliesWhat would be nice is if the trait categories for weapons matched up to those skills, and were equally important. As a former games designer (card, table top and board games) I cannot believe that the Destiny weapons designers do not have templates that they stick to and that the various trait areas are not balanced for equal power. People may say something takes no skill, or very little skill and sometimes that has some basis in fact. Destiny could save itself time and money by not making some weapons, or weapons categories so OP that they have to go and nerf it at a later date.

And then there's sidearms

My special ability is being an asshole. Damn.

6 RepliesEdited by M1ED: 11/16/2016 4:37:35 AMI'm just comfortable using my Suros Regime. For close in work I like a fusion rifle. Don't really care what someone else uses, as its their Guardian. They may be better than me or worse than me. That's the game. Ed Thanks guys! Yeah I've used the Suros against many a sniper ;-) It's a year two that I just infused too 400. I do switch off to the 45 Auto so I can use my Plan C sometimes Ed

Edited by Blink: 11/16/2016 3:19:46 AMAgreed with everything except pulse rifles. They're way too forgiving. Easiest fix is to reduce mag size so that people have to actually be accurate or get punished for it because having 10+ bursts with a high rof pulse means you can spray and adjust your aim as you're firing.
