Holy -blam!-ing shit this is getting annoying. People complaining weapons don't take skill. Everything takes a different skill set. Just because you are bad at that skill, doesn't mean it doesn't take ANY skill. Low entry point and high ceiling is the perfect design in a video game. Lemme break this down in what skill set the weapons take specials and primaries. Let's begin
Auto Rifles: Rewards target tracking
Hand cannons: reward precision and patience. Spamming is punished especially at range
Pulse Rifles: reward precision shots and excellent target acquisition
Scouts: reward precision shots and positioning of your character
Shotguns: Reward fast, precision movement and reaction times. Baiting corners
Aleclev with a good sidearm explanation:
Sidearms: Rewards good radar reading and good recoil control. Being able to put yourself just outside of shotgun range.
Fusion Rifles: reward target tracking and movement prediction, as well as quick reaction times
Sniper Rifles: reward precision aim and positioning of the user. Punished if challenging with many open sightlines because you are easily flinched.
Tldr: every weapon takes a different skill set to use. Weapons descriptions are above. This was not in the post but I'm putting here as a friendly reminder. Low entry point high ceiling characters and weapons are how video games should be made.
Edit :I left this post a day and a half ago. Wow did not expect this to trend. My god
Edit: Holy shit people you guys and gals are nuts. This was supposed to be merely just an observation after playing a decent amount with each weapon. No they don't all have the same kill numbers. But I have played each of the special weapon types a good amount
Edit: a guardian said where did all the sbmm post go.
I ended their passage to the lighthouse
Bro I agree with this post but there is so much toxic on these forum's oh this weapon takes no skill ok so aiming and firing a weapon doesn't take some sort of skill ok so wtf is skill then please let me know what take everything in the game some sort of skill no matter how easy it is take cleaver dragon you see everyone use it because it's very forgiving and easy to use were is hopscotch is not you need to be precise with the gun and get nothing but headshots and be at a medium to far range for it to be effective

4 RepliesMy only issue with complaining about skill is when I'm using a scout rifle and I spot an enemy at scout rifle range. I have good target acquisition and am able to firmly keep tracking them. It so happens that a few times, I've spotted a titan (no biggie) then he immediately turns toward me and sprints straight at me, they don't zig-zag to dodge my shots which results in me landing headshot after headshot with no misses. He sprints and actually manages to shotgun me. I don't really use a titan so forgive me for forgetting the name of the perk but it's the one that activated a physical shield in front of them while sprinting. Now this is my opinion, but no balanced game should allow the closest range weapon to close in on the 2nd longest ranged weapon's optimal distance and win. With or without that shield. He had no reason to switch to primary ever if he knows he can close a gap like that. ONLY a sniper could have stopped him, foregoing heavy ammo, even then it takes 2 headshots. I have a similar issue with a guy teabagging my tripmine grenade (like literally it was inserted into his characters backside) and not dying but that's a story for another thread. TL;DR: Got shotgunned whilst using scout at scout-range and yes, have become salty about it.

7 RepliesShotguns take no skill compared to snipers anyone can float or crouch around a corner with a high impact weapon that deals high damage over a large area, making a precision drag scope with a sniper takes a large amount of practice. Those that reply stating this is not the case have probed picked up a full auto matador and seen there kd increase because of the lack of skill needed to use the gun, pair that with a high rate of fire pulse and the average player suddenly becomes a good player purely because of the meta at the moment. Bungie routinely change the meta in the game to keep people lusting new weapons and to keep people interested. If they wanted to balance the game they could, they would just make times to kill more similar and buff primaries slightly. The problem is the new shotgun meta is extremely frustrating to a lot of players, especially after other weapons they enjoy using have been nerfed, the more things that get nerfed the more people get annoyed. Stop nerfing start buffing.

3 RepliesPulse rifles I'm a scrub and just spam trigger because it's easy with dragons and maloks

Edited by Enochua: 11/17/2016 2:36:03 AMwith a max range of 7.4 meters your description of what skill it takes to use shotys is laughable.

lol kid shotguns take 0 skill
-
Use a side arm , specifically the trespasser , honestly it melts shot gunners and just makes them run like frightened squirrels .

6 Repliesso what you're saying is I'm skilled at: Target acquisition precision shots fast, precision movement reaction time & baiting corners? yeah I can see it...

1 ReplyFunny how everyone is complaining about shotguns when it was only months ago when snipers ruled crucible Boo hoo : shotgunners are camping behind corner Boo hoo : snipers are camping at back of map If I'm not mistaken- supremacy brought back the shotgun - brought out the running/ chasing which allows shotguns to be relevant- which I personally like - hated having to hide all the time - slowed the game down too much

41 RepliesEdited by Send It: 11/16/2016 10:55:32 PMShotguns take absolutely no skill, I use all special weapons apart from sidearms tbh and I have to say fusions take the most skill, right now snipers takes some level of skill after the nerf but shotguns, holy shit man, I have practised with a sniper for hours on end to be ably to land consistent headshots but I can just pick up my matador and its instantly just kill after kill, seriously if you cant shoot a -blam!-ing shotgun straight and you have at least one thumb you need to go see a doctor. They take literally no skill right now, closing gaps doesnt matter in this game where you have shit like titan skating and shadestep and on top of that melees to finish the job like thundersnipe if your shotty somehow didnt kill them. At the moment shotguns are complete aids I cannot go into a single 6v6 lobby without at least 6 matadors. I have no idea what OP means by 'fast precision movement and reaction times' you just run up to someone until you're about ten feet away and point in there general area and get a free kill. Baiting corners? so waiting behind a -blam!-ing door for some blueberries to walk through who were stupid enough to use an actual primary and pulling your trigger takes skill? I think not. In a game of short range maps, crutchy shotgun supporting abilities and primaries with way to high time to kills shotguns are just straight up broken.

"My gun isn't a crutch, my gun isn't a crutch, MY GUN ISN'T A CRUTCH"

I would say sidearms reward accuracy and quick fingers

Word!

Life doesn't take skill.

6 RepliesI agree, nerf shotguns
-
hitting to buttons is a different skill
-
P2P connection and shotguns in PVP takes one skill.......a new level of cheapness and laziness from Bungie.

Edited by ShawnsEPIC: 11/16/2016 9:57:59 PMSkill is an overarching thing. Believe it or not, people who can use a pulse rifle can use an auto rifle and vice versa. All weapons require precision, but there's weapons that require more accuracy with a higher learning curve than other weapons. Some weapons reward easy body shots. Tl;dr - this post is -blam!-ing pointless and means nothing.
-
Shotgunners have the meta so now they say everything takes "skill" but when it was avoiders it was "aim assist" "camping around corners"
-
Except matador.

2 RepliesUsing a special weapon as a primary takes no skill.
-
11 RepliesSniping also takes quick reaction , good judgement, prediction, high mobility(hitting peekers is easier than peeking) good primary play(to use against shotgunners which everyone is) so you can see while shotgunning is not a no skill thing, sniping takes the same skill set and more, I wish people would under stand that nothing is NO skill, but something's are more skilled. Auto rifles are low skill low reward, handcannons are a harder skill set and reward faster kills when used properly
-
11 RepliesSticky grenades piss me off such a cheap way to get a kill. If grenades where that sticky wouldn't they stick to the throwers hand and blow them up????
-
2 RepliesI mean yes and no. Weapon skill goes out the window when poor map design is involved. Map set-up and design influences weapon skill

2 RepliesWhat About Side Arms?
