Holy -blam!-ing shit this is getting annoying. People complaining weapons don't take skill. Everything takes a different skill set. Just because you are bad at that skill, doesn't mean it doesn't take ANY skill. Low entry point and high ceiling is the perfect design in a video game. Lemme break this down in what skill set the weapons take specials and primaries. Let's begin
Auto Rifles: Rewards target tracking
Hand cannons: reward precision and patience. Spamming is punished especially at range
Pulse Rifles: reward precision shots and excellent target acquisition
Scouts: reward precision shots and positioning of your character
Shotguns: Reward fast, precision movement and reaction times. Baiting corners
Aleclev with a good sidearm explanation:
Sidearms: Rewards good radar reading and good recoil control. Being able to put yourself just outside of shotgun range.
Fusion Rifles: reward target tracking and movement prediction, as well as quick reaction times
Sniper Rifles: reward precision aim and positioning of the user. Punished if challenging with many open sightlines because you are easily flinched.
Tldr: every weapon takes a different skill set to use. Weapons descriptions are above. This was not in the post but I'm putting here as a friendly reminder. Low entry point high ceiling characters and weapons are how video games should be made.
Edit :I left this post a day and a half ago. Wow did not expect this to trend. My god
Edit: Holy shit people you guys and gals are nuts. This was supposed to be merely just an observation after playing a decent amount with each weapon. No they don't all have the same kill numbers. But I have played each of the special weapon types a good amount
Edit: a guardian said where did all the sbmm post go.
I ended their passage to the lighthouse
4 RepliesExcept that some weapons have been tuned to pretty much ignore any basic combat rule.

4 RepliesGreat point until you reached shotguns and snipers.doesnt take skill to hit a target the size of an IMAX. I know. My 7 year old uses snipers and outright sucks at it. Shotgunning has been the longest running gag that people think takes skills. Aim shot. Swing shot. It takes minuscule skill to use these shotguns and below average to wield the sniper. Otherwise your points are spot on.

Amen why cant people get this.instead nerf this then buff complaints.
-
Man, you know the game has gone to shit when people are complaining about PRIMARIES again. Except last time they were actually broken
-
37 RepliesPulse rifles take no skill

11 RepliesLet's be real here; Hand Cannons really don't require much skill. They have the most Aim Assist out of any other Primary archetype, across all classes - they have insanely high damage with insanely high fire rates except for the highest impact archetype. They have perfect 90% accuracy while in the air, Icarus making 100% - which rewards being in the air permanently. They have insanely good sights for CQC combat, and barely suffer a penalty to damage or accuracy at range, despite being a handgun. You then have the people suggesting to take the Bloom effect off Hand Cannons... like, really? Smh If Bloom were removed off Hand Cannons, they'd (once again) be the End-All choice for Primaries, just like they were in HoW.

14 RepliesI agree... Except with shotguns. The range is just unbalanced.

7 RepliesI was playing a 1v1 against my friend last night. We were purely using guns and no supers. My loadout was: Distant Star, Matador, and Gjallarhorn. I was mostly using Distant Star though. It was on Anomaly so in the back I would rotate between hallways whenever my friend came over. He called this "camping" because I would stay in one of these places although I was fairly moving around. He also complained that my gun took no skill because I was using it in a narrow hallway. I sighed at this. Scout Rifles are supposed to reward good shots and precision, especially in narrow lanes. I told him this and he still complained further how he was getting ghost bullets. I played very stratigically in this game by using said narrow lanes to my advantage with my Scout. Had I not done this I would have had a harder time against him but I didn't. He also complained that I relied too much on my melee to win close range encounters. He was Nightstalker so I don't know what the big deal is. Just switch to another subclass.

Edited by ARCHER444: 11/17/2016 3:13:31 PMI'll agree with you on the fusion rifles... :)

You know what doesn't take skill juggernaut shotgunning or no back up plans double shotgunning.
-
Hand eye coordination. That's it.

Every mainhand is user freindly except handcannons. And they cried so much to nerf them again not to long ago , basically cause the majority cant usem. So let me get this straight you practice with a handcannon 2 to 3 weeks in order to get comfortable with weapon and do fairly average. And people who use the user freindly weapon , that takes no skill in using , get the say in destroying a class of mainhand weapon ?

Agreed. Skill is the ability to do or complete a task successfully. There are so many tasks to do in this game, everybody is skilled in something. inb4"aimassist"
-
Aim assist is high on this one

When all guns go pew pew pew. No guns go pew pew pew.

2 RepliesHawksaw, grasp, clever dragon, PDX and any other pulse like that takes little to NO skill
-
Wel I feel you're right, weapons like snipers will require a more skilled player to preform well all the time.
-
shotguns nope (except chaperone) all others mostly yes
-
3 RepliesNo skill equals : defender titan, no back up plans, matador, no primary those dont exist lol
-
4 RepliesGuys calm down shinobus vow and skip badges take skill I swear
-
Shotguns cannot be fixed imo because no one can agree about whether shotguns should be realistic or not. I think the better question is whether or not they should be in the game at all. Think about the small map sizes, the low low ttk of the shotgun, the mobility of the players, the special ammo that is practically handed to you on a silver platter. All of these things help in the shotguns favor. It all helps them be more effective. Maybe people should be saying "Shotguns Are Too OP for Destiny at all!!!"

1 ReplyHow has this post been up for so long?! I replyed to a guy and called him a retard for thinking he could kill the ogre in Wretched Eye Strike? Also where has the SBMM post gone?
-
5 RepliesMaybe he should just change the name of this topic to 'Defend your Crutches Guardians'
-
8 RepliesExcept Juggernaut Shotgun. That takes no skill.
-
1 ReplyHere's the thing, I can almost agree except for with the fast firing pulse rifle archetype. They make you flinch the most, do practically the most damage per second and they have little recoil. That doesn't take skill I'm sorry.

Bro I agree with this post but there is so much toxic on these forum's oh this weapon takes no skill ok so aiming and firing a weapon doesn't take some sort of skill ok so wtf is skill then please let me know what take everything in the game some sort of skill no matter how easy it is take cleaver dragon you see everyone use it because it's very forgiving and easy to use were is hopscotch is not you need to be precise with the gun and get nothing but headshots and be at a medium to far range for it to be effective
