Fallout noob, give me advice!

So, as somebody who has never played a Fallout game in the past, I bought Fallout 4 on Steam, as I liked Skyrim and I saw it was on sale. 5 hours later; I'm getting my rear end handed to me on a silver platter and the game is extremely confusing, leading to me not having a lot of fun. Can anybody help me understand the systems of the game a bit more so I can feel like I have a better grasp of the game's mechanics?

If you see a red name, they're hostile. If you shoot someone, they become hostile. Shoot literally anyone in Diamond City, they're hostile for a Fallout week. See green skies? Get in your Power Armor or a safe place, and sleep. Rad storms are terrible unless you're protected. Deathclaws are called Deathclaws for a reason. Super Mutants are suprisingly tanky. In a group, they can be mildly dangerous at a low level. Bugs are hard to shoot, go for the melee(unless you're at a high level, Radscorpions are not fun up close.) Mirelurk shells are very hard, aim for their core. Synths are a great way to find...what are they called...batteries? Yeah, let's go with that. Batteries for energy weapons. Side with the Brotherhood. When you're at higher levels and carry too much, summon a Vertibird. You also get some free stuff and a free set of Power Armor when you reach the Prydwen. Side with the Minutemen. Ummm...patriotism? Side with the Railroad. Kickass guns. Side with the Institute, more kickass guns. You can't side with the Brotherhood, then join the Railroad or Institute. You can't(well you can, but Preston won't like it) side with the Minutemen, then join any other faction. I recommend joining the desired faction first, the siding with Minutemen. Can't go Railroad, then go Institute or Brotherhood. Can't go Institute, then go Railroad or Brotherhood. *note-you can, but companions from that faction will be dissapointed.
Your child becomes head of the Institute.

Spoilers are spoilers for a reason. Bungie lesson.
• Play on very easy if you enjoy investing your leveled points on relation abilities like charisma, inteligence, science related skills like I did in every Fallout I've played. Super hint: Fallout 4 is more shooter than rpg if you compare to 3 and NV, that's why fans complain, but it's still an excellent game, don't take the haters that serious.

    • Put it down, and go play New Vegas. ^-^ In seriousness, I don't have any tips sadly. Fallout 4 greatly disappointed me, so I didn't get very far. I really do recommend Fallout New Vegas, though. So much better, imo. :)

      • 1: quick save is your best friend. 2: dont point blank explosive weapons, especially not the fat man. 3: dont go to swan lake early on in your journey, trust me. 4: head to vault 81 as soon as possible, i wont spoil anything for you but theres an important companion there. 5: finally, dont be a dick to your companions. Those are a few things to help you out on your journey.

          • Charisma, intelligence and agility are your friends. Strength affects carry capacity as well as unarmed and melee damage. It has armorer and blacksmith Perception affects VATS accuracy, it has the semi-auto rifle perk as well as lovkpicking and pickpocketing Endurance is your overall health and frankly every perk there is vital in the end Charisma helps with speech checks as well as pacifying animals and later on beasts and people, there's also the lone wanderer perk Intelligence has gun nut and other surprisingly useful perks, the higher your intelligence the more experience you get Agility affects stealth, it also has the pistol, commando, and other perks that help out a lot with stealth Luck affects everything and also the recharge rate of your crit meter. Has some useful perks, not the most necessary ones though
the companions all have their ups and downs. for example, Curie is the weakest companion but she also supplies you with stimpaks.
• If you see a deathclaw, they are very friendly. They might be very intimidating but they won't harm you. If they do hug you, don't worry, their just playing

Pay very close attention to everything around you, especially the floor That tip alone can save you A few little bonus tip because I'm rather nice -A bed in fallout= life saver -Become friends with the animals as soon as you can -If you see a giant green guy, run -Hope you have a good aim -If you see something that angry looking and hostile, fill it with lead -Play on an easy difficulty to get the experience, then go on harder difficulties for the challenge -if the ammo doesn't weigh you down hold on to as much as you can -if you see a giant crab with legs, aim for the head or just shoot it till it drops -get a ally -carry a lot of stimpacks -for the love of god be sanitary and get your water from the sink -shotguns are very helpful, sawed off isn't very helpful but it gets the job done

            • The further south you go, the more dangerous it is. Loot literally everything and sell as much as possible. Save crafting equipment to make better gear. Spend skill points wisely. Do as many side quests as possible, as they help level you up a lot.

            • You can free fire (aim down scope or hip fire), what you see is pretty much what get. You can also switch into VATS mode on your pip-boy. This will slow down combat and let you aim at specific body parts, with the % chance to hit displayed. One stick moves between body parts, one moves between enemies. Using VATS uses Action Points (AP, lower right of screen), these replenish fairly quickly, you can regen them faster with aid items. When you get enough hits in VATS, the critical bar will fill. You use this in VATS by targeting normally, then hitting whatever it's keyed to. _Critical hits ALWAYS hit_, doesn't matter if it's a 1% chance normally, it will always hit. Certain mobs can be handled differently. If you're getting swarmed by ferals, for example, shotguns to the legs are particularly effective against the stronger ones - they may be alive but they're immobile, and since they don't have a ranged attack you can clean them up later from a safe distance.

-Don't swim unless you have aquaboy perk or a hazmat suit. -Avoid the South of the Commonwealth and get better in the easier zones. Make sure you have fusion cores before using power armor and make sure the armor is at full health. -If you see a Mirelurk with the word "king" or "queen" or "lurker", don't fight it until you're stronger. -Pick off groups of raiders regularly. It gets you experience and ammo. -Always have cooked food, stimpacks, blood packs, and radaway at hand. -Don't shoot at an insect unless you're positive the shot will land. -Drugs are powerful, but can negatively affect your character if you don't have drug resistance perks or you don't do a toxin purge at a doctor or with addictol. -Never get caught without ammo. Ever. -If it looks like a Deathclaw, sounds like a Deathclaw, and wants to kill you like a Deathclaw, it's probably a Deathclaw. -Shoot feral ghouls before the jump attack you (just to prevent radiation damage). -Early on, don't waste all the minigun ammo. Save it for a time when you'll need it.

                • Save caps for Godly Guns (Big Boy, Overseer's Guardian, etc) or needed supplies (Stimpacks and Radaways). Don't fuck with the Brotherhood. They will fuck you up (Ad Victorium) If you don't need to go into combat, don't. Try to talk your way out of it (unless you're running some type of "character" who wouldn't "do something" like that). Get perks that work with each other. If you want to invest in VATS, get Critical Banker and Four Leaf Clover, or the other perks. If you want power armor, go with Nuclear Physicist and Strength perks. Etc, etc. Also, get perks such as Lockpick and Hacker, no matter what build you go with, as well as Medic, which can be life saving. Levels become harder to get as you progress, so get the perks you want the most at first. You can upgrade your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats as well. Use this to your advantage.
