Tldr: we currently have elemental recovery and elemental armor enhancement on chest pieces. My proposal is add specific special weapon resistance as well to that to encourage weapon diversity. So essentially if you ran a solar subclass with solar armor enhancement or enhanced recovery to incoming solar damage. You would sacrifice that (affecting special, heavy, and subclass resistance) for just comparable resistance against a single special weapon type.

Shotguns was the easiest example to explain this is not a cry for a shotgun nerf the goal of this is special weapon balance.
Hear me out. Bungie wants a rotating variety of weapons, but currently relies on nerfs, buffs, and general manipulation of the meta to do so.
My idea add weapon resistance to armor. For example instead of an elemental resistance have a chest piece that resists shot gun damage. If shot guns get too prevalent then the armor becomes prevalent and people switch weapons to compensate. You could see meta switches mid game depending on the makeup of the teams.
Consider it bungie.
Edit: I'm talking small differences like the elemental resistances now. Enough to encourage some thought but not make you feel like you have to switch mid game to compete. I think it would also help diversify starting loadouts. You may not have constant 6v6 shotguns
Edit 2: I would not implement primary resistance only special at first.
This would allow players to combat the meta weapons themselves in some capacity

3 RepliesI don't think I like the idea of a permanent perk on armor that could give one player an advantage over another in a gun fight. However if you got a 30 second resistance to secondary damage when you opened an ammo crate or have an orb that randomly drops from a players that would give that same affect I would be ok with it.

1 ReplyFirst off, I commend you for making a clear and concise post for this arguement. Secondly it's an interesting idea, but I think it make change the Ttk too much or otherwise not make a difference. Consider the fact that if it makes a shotgun 2 shots to kill then the shotgun will never get a kill on anyone using that perk, and since you can't tell what perks someone has that really just adds an unwarranted gamble of whether your weapon will be effective or not. Now if they made a shader or an ornament that had that perk locked in, so that people would know not to use that weapon against you, then its starting to sound a little more realistic. Another think you must consider is how it will effect weapon tuning, if bungie decides to nerf a weapon, as they often do, then the perk will also need to be adjusted and frankly, bungie hasn't shown much aptitude when they tweak thinks that have coding binding it to something else. Its a good idea, really, but not one that can be feasible implemented in the near future I think, perhaps in destiny 2 though.

1 ReplyI disagree, I already hate having to go into a menu during a multiplayer match to switch weapons because somebody is forcing a hard counter to my load out. If they add a system to hot key items, maybe... But Jesus, the game already has so many aspects at play that make the game feel random and imbalanced.

1 ReplyThat's the dumbest thing I've ever heard since someone said Illegal Immigration wasn't an issue. Armor is already the strongest attribute. It's purpose is literally damage resistance. No one single weapon in the current meta is really overpowered. They've really just fallen into a group. And weapons don't need to be buffed or nerfed. You just need to put on higher light level armor.
