Look around? Seriously I've been doing it more and more recently, and this is especially true of the Dreadnought and King's Fall. For example, when you cross the bridge and fight a metric -blam!-ton of thrall in the dark blade strike, instead of crossing and entering the strike room, look around on the bridge. The art in this game, especially the skyboxes and background art, is incredible. I feel like a lot of people don't recognize this (and of course there will be comments saying they do, but a lot of people just run by things). Anyways, just a shout out to the art team (?) for Destiny, it's a brilliant part of this game that gets overlooked by all the crucible nerf complaints and such.
Edit: Wow guys I had no idea so so so many people resonated with this! <3
Edit 2: Holy crap you guys, this is the first time anything I've done in life has been liked so much XD

Edit 2 is the saddest thing I have ever read. Here is a bump because I feel bad for you.
Hail Hydra!
I like the moon, mainly cos if you look in certain direction you can see Mars

Probably the best Weeklu Upd-- Er, This Week At Bungie they've done. Music one was nice. I still miss the Music Man though.:.

Totally agree. One of the main reasons I still play the game is the atmosphere created by the brilliant art and music and the overall feel of the sandbox. I go to places on patrol just to look at the views! One of my favorites is the area of the Cosmodrome where you initially resurrect at the very start of the game, it's really evocative of a collapsed world. The Moon is good too. All should be bigger and have more mystery, puzzles, avenues of exploration. Destiny, being primarily a fps, has a lot of focus on gunplay and loot which as a reliant mechanism, will inevitably lead to shorter periods of player engagement. Personally, I hope that future releases develop the elements that unfold, places, story, puzzles, choices as you progress through the game. 40 hours of PvE gameplay isn't enough for a AAA release. I don't need an endless parade of weapons and armor I don't like and won't use, I'd much prefer to be able to develop and customize a small selection that I do like. It's totally out of whack to have every Guardian have a massive and identical arsenal of gear in a supposed era of scarcity.

This one of many reasons why I love the game. They really put in a lot of effort into making the world look so huge and awesome. Venus is one of my favorite places in the game. Some games don't really do this very well. They make the main areas look cool, but the background isn't as nice to look at. Hats off to the bungie art team.

Yeah I was on Pantheon running across the outside of the map and just got mesmerized by the backdrop. I was staring so hard I almost fell off the map while I was trying to walk and look at the same time.

Edited by Kizo: 7/15/2016 5:27:14 AMDestiny's art direction and sound design has always been spot on. I think it's just a standard Bungie thing at this point, really. So many amazing visuals and great sounds that really get you immersed when you use headphones. I really love all the boops and beeps your weapons make when you switch to them. You can only really hear it with headphones, but it's so addicting to hear.

Seeing those cool locations is nice and all, but being able to actually walk in those areas or fight there would be awesome. Especially being able to go climb on that mountain over there.

Where you spawn in on the dreadnaught in the hull breach and in the trenchway, if you look into the rings you can see pieces of ship destroyed in the battle with the dreadnaught.
-
They have done a great job of that since release. The shiphanger in kings fall first time was absolutley breath taking.

Yes, I do. And quite often, I see something brand-new and amazing. That Vertigo platform level has some nice vistas on it, too. You wouldn't think the view of a superheated overgrown asteroid would be worth looking at, but it is.

3 RepliesYeah, we have. Sadly, patrol doesn't give end game rewards so most don't care. Just make a patrol where every enemy is at 350 light, have the loot chests drop 320-335 gear. Done.

13 RepliesWhat upsets me the most about past statements by Jason jones and some other people who were involved with art design and sandbox design.... the fact that it was quoted "if you look over there and see something cool, you can go over there"... there was more to it, but he basically said originally that all viewable areas would be able to be travelled to. I LOVE the art style of this game and the scenery is just amazing, even considering it was setup for last gen consoles. I don't stop to appreciate the view anymore, but I can honestly say how I'd go stare off in the distance for a while when none of my friends were on and I just felt like runnin patrols. Even staring off in places like Venus, you'd see flying dragons (not a big deal or a big spectacle but interesting since you had to look really hard), or on the moon - staring at the broken space station still in orbit in the sky (along with seeing shooting stars, or looking for Mars with a sniper rifle, or even staring at the Milky Way Galaxy in the sky.... I could go on and on just about the moon). There are so many small, yet beautiful things that can easily be missed if you don't look hard enough, but there's so many wonderful things off in the distance, it feels like you're staring at a living work of art.

Edited by Indiana Griffin: 7/15/2016 1:15:38 AMThat bridge you're talking about is probably one of my favorite areas in the game actually.

Look around the atmosphere? Of course I do that! Especially the sightseeing of two Cabal Harvesters tailgating each other at the Dreadnaught!
-
Destiny does a few things well: Art, music, environment and gunplay. It's the progression mechanics and gatekeeper community that makes it unbearable. Oh, and how PvP doesn't reward you for doing good, but I guess that can be under progressions.

I have always enjoyed the quality of the art in the game. I have friends that just like to speed one through everything but then new areas like the dreadnought come out I always take my time to admire the artwork put into the game.
