Red Death is underpowered.

The rest of its archetype is underpowered as well.

  • Pulses? Grasp/hawksaw seem to be doing well...so I wouldn't say the archetype as a whole is lagging. High rate of fire with high stability is doing pretty well. But like all things, I believe it does depend on map and what the enemy is largely running.

  • Honestly it's come to the point now where i think they should just have 2 dif arch types for each wep. So for pulse maybe. Hawksaw FR and Spare change FR. There will never be balance as it stands, one arch type will always reign supreme. It's getting annoying. There are so many weapons in the game but you never see them being used. So why do they even exist. Just a thought that popped into my head. I miss y1 Red Death, makes more sense for it to two burst with a slightly slower FR. Perhaps even giving it a unique FR inbetween its current state and spare change. Exotics should have their own arch types to make the stand out from legendaries. As it stands most legendaries outclass exotics, due to perk rolls.

    • It was good for a month or so but that nerf hammer ruined it. I used to love PVP but now it's a watered down lag fest.

    • He's my issue with the Red Death and it's fellows: if you leave it as it is, it can and generally will be out-shot by the PDX-45 / Hawksaw types, expect at longer ranges from time to time. If you boost it enough to 2-burst, it becomes absolutely best in class and is too powerful to stay that way. I'm not sure what needs to be done with this archetype, and the next slowest one as well, but as it stands now they are not fully competitive. Where the perks on Red Death make it worth using, despite being worst-in-class for pulse rifle TTK, the other members of it's family can't boast the same. I puzzle this one over often, how to make the guns balance with the rest of the pack. It can't be a damage bump, or they become -the- meta weapon...no one wants a Red Death meta. Perhaps an increase to base range and stability would help...I just don't know, and believe me, I've thought about it.

      • your crazy in pve its a monster. It hasn’t changed much in pvp, and its still a 2 shot kill if you get all crits. In pvp its a reasonable option

            • Pulse rifles got gutted in a recent nerf. Bungie's policy for "balancing" a weapon seems to be to make the dominant one unusable. Example: they [i]said [/i]they were going to nerf the hard-hittlng Hakke guns 8%. This nerf would have taken them from dominant to balanced. What they [i]did [/i]was nerf them 20%, which took them from dominant to laughable. Now, hardly anyone uses pulse rifles anymore (and most of those that do seem to like the quicker ones like PDX-45 or Hawksaw). When scouts or autos become dominant, the same thing will happen.

              Pulse Rifles as a whole are pretty imbalanced among themselves. Grasp of Malok and Hawksaw archetypes excel it seemingly everything right now, whereas Red Death and Spare Change.25 archetypes are severely underwhelming. The middle archetypes are difficult to balance, as having them both be optimal 3-burst kills makes Red Death and the likes pretty worthless unless they have a significant Range advantage (which they most definitely don't). Allow them to 2-burst like old times makes them pretty much the best-in-class, as we saw in the immediate post-2.0 state, and Spare Change.25 becomes worthless. IMO the best solution is to increase the severity and decrease the start of damage falloff for high RoF Pulse Rifles and slightly increase impact of low RoF Pulse Rifles (31/32 and maybe 35/36 respectively, these would certainly need playtesting because they seem very strong in my head) For Red Death specifically, Aggressive Ballistics needs to be replaced, it kills the weapon's stats entirely (considerable decreases Range, Stability and Aim Assist) but the Impact doesn't improve on what it can already have without the penalties. Moreover, it feels very inconsistent, very reminiscent of how Hawkmoon was not too long ago.

            • I would like to see a buff for pve at least, the exotic perk is really pretty situational to choose it over something else. As far as pvp, I still remember when that was all anyone used and prefer it not to go back to that, the perk is basically 90% useless for me there and my pdx 41 is a Lazer that hits well enough I can't see using a different pulse rifle. Plus I can use invective then and not worry about ammo so much.

              • Red death, bad juju, are supposed to be a bit underpowered. The abilities compensate. Think about it, Red Death is given enough damage to kill as hawksaw. With the effect alongside it, everyone would use that instead. A set roll weapon with decent perks is dominant over a legendary you grind to get a great roll, given identical dps. "Hamstercat, it's an exotic though, it takes up your slot to use on something better!" I will answer that question with a question. What is better? Describe it.

              • Red death should get a make over, buff it's aim assist, hit registration, damage and range. Make it great again and make it feel exotic in the crucible.

                  I would make it a very slow 2 burst kill. Simple math and logic used to calculate the rate of fire to compete with other pulse rifles.
