There's a Destiny public events finder all that may help a bit. It will tell you where the next event is and roughly when it is due to start (my experience is that they start a few minutes later that the app says) but not what the event will be [spoiler]it doesn't help much, they're are rare as rocking horse shit[/spoiler]
