Eliminating special from Trials exposed the biggest cheese in PvP even more than it was already known.
Almost every match I go into has someone equipping Ice Breaker or a sidearm (sometimes even an Invective) and the end result is people cheese it to get special ammo.
I don't play Trials that often, I never played it in year 1. But ever since Bungie did this I've seen more and more people use this cheap tactic to gain an edge on the opponent.
Its really cheap and it takes away from what Bungie was "Trying" to fix...
I've contemplated reporting people for cheating if they do this tactic but while most people would consider this cheating, I consider it unsportsmanlike. And as such I have yet to report someone, it just annoys the hell out of me.
I've never been to the lighthouse, I'm not really that good at crucible or any PvP for that matter. I don't think this is a matter of getting good either because I personally feel that anyone who does this tactic is a cheap player and can't play the way Bungie is "Trying" to get us to play.
Personally, I think Trials should be no radar, no heavy, no special period.

You are arguing from a position of ignorance. It is in no way cheating. It's a exploit of what is already in the game. Invective regenerates it's ammo but it takes up an exotic slot and it is in no way on par with the power with the conspiracy theory D which everyone can pick. Ice Breaker can headshot kill someone in Trials but that's it. It can't res snipe or kill someone in a super which has bonus armour. Sidearms have always had the passive perk where you always spawn with ammo for it. Next you'll be saying using a NLB is cheating because it's technically a secondary you can equip in your primary slot.

7 RepliesI don't mind it. 1 . Ice breaker is not easy to use and you have to land a head shot for a one hit kill. 2. Invective takes a really long time to generate ammo and by the time it does, special is 10 seconds away. 3.Side arms are in the game and if you get close enough to die by one, then it's your own fault. All you have to do is be aware of what you're up against.

3 RepliesI agree to an extent, really I think it shows more of a flaw in the light level system being an average. If the light level average is above 290 with a 170 weapon equipped, the weapon will have increased damaged. Honestly, a 170 Icebreaker at 295 light is better than a Waylen's March at 315. I was very disappointed with the Iron banner sniper, hand cannon, fusion rifle, and rocket launcher. The only decent one was the auto rifle. But that is a different rant. Trials is better left for the hardcore players. If you are a casual, get a carry for the grim score and never play it again. You will be happier not playing that laggy, cheating, disconnecting failure. Boons should be used for matches not disconnects. With the increase in carries offered by twitchers and youtubers, it will soon be the only way to get to the lighthouse. Pay to win is here my friend....but again, that is a different rant. Damn I am starting to get salty..lol

1 ReplyOkay [i]whoa.[/i] No. I use Invective every week. I always have. I use Nirwens and Invective. It has never been for special. You know when it does give you special? About 4 seconds before actual special spawns. And you still have to reload. Invective doesn't count. Lol The sidearms and icebreaker are cheap and annoying. Granted some (very few) but some people use sidearms regularly.

1 ReplyI agree on the "no radar" for Trials as well as Iron Banner. Flanking is near impossible on any map because of it. But also while we are at it....Trials and Iron Banner should have no radar, and be played on a random map each session instead of the same camping, sniping choke points over and over. Maybe even throw in pre-determined load out exceptions as well. Top Tier PvP should offer far more than we currently have. Let's go Forrest Gump style, never knowing what we're gonna get...

3 RepliesI don't play trials much, but I think Bungie chose the laziest, worst solution to special ammo. It seems there's no close matches anymore. Either your team gets special round one and pretty much stomp the rest, or the other team gets it, and you are at a severe disadvantage making a comeback extremely difficult. They should have reduced starting ammo, and per crate, not given whoever wins round one god mode. 3 rounds to start with extra special armor, and 3 per pickup would have been a far better solution.

Or just make each spawn a player with 1 special mag fresh at the beginning of each round and not allowing that ammo to carry over into the next round, just as they make it so you can't carry over heavy ammo. And if players switch special weapons, that special ammo will revert to zero when they switch weapons. Yes this will bring back the sniping/shotgun rushing at the beginning of each match but at the same time it will make that ammo more "special" and players will will have to be more conservative with that ammo, rather than spamming down sniper lanes or rushing.

icebreaker takes 7 seconds per bullet. invective is like 17 seconds for one clip. These are minor issues. even with your suggested primary only there will be meta picks. IB and trails has become exclusive content, as in if you do not play the game in the optimal way go cry elsewhere. There is no need to change the whole game for one mode.

What is even the point in not using a sidearm? It is better than having no special when you spawn then switching out next round.

Invective isn't a cheap tactic to get special: it regenerates slowly and is a beast shot gun, so I just keep it equipped. My sidearm at 319 is my highest light special, so I use that to keep my light up when using a lower level primary...and yes I do switch it out after I die a few times. Icebreaker is pretty cheap, but it is an effective tactic. They could just make its ammo regen like Invective though. PS, I'm a scrub so don't bother pointing it out.

Bungie programmer stated in a Planet Destiny podcast that they knew the Ice Breaker/Invective/sidearm exploit would occur even before taking special at the beginning of the matches out. So is it cheating, depends on the point of view. It's more taking advantage of an exploit that is left out to be utilized. Is it cheap to do it, of course, I've done it with Invective. I don't venture into 3v3 very much, I suck at it big time. So it doesn't bother me all that much. Streamers state they take advantage exploit because its there.

Rescue mag gives me a ridiculous amount of special ammo. I don't even need to have the weapon equipped and it activates. It rewards me for playing bad. I take damage and get free special ammo.

Just for the record invective only spawns special at the time of special coming. It doenst just do it at random times. And icebreaker? That's just a terrible exploit. Good portion. Of people I see dont even use side arms so its not as serious as icebreaker

I use Invective in Trials, but that's just cause it's the only good shotgun I have.
