if any other 1% rift players have any other advice feel free to let me know. Let's get these kids to understand how to play.
There are 6 roles in rift. And you can't have all 6 people doing the same damn role or else you will be shit on.
This doesn't mean you can't multi task and do multiple but for god sake pick one and start playing like it's meant to be played. We don't need 6 defenders on the spawn.
1. Spark runner
Don't bother picking this shit up if you're a warlock with out blink, unless necessary warlocks can't make it as fast as Titans or hunters.
Don't bother if you're running low armor and you're under leveled. Let someone else take it.
Don't bother if you don't know the map or how to let the team go first instead of you running ahead like a jack ass and dying.
Normally have the most points without a lot of kills
2. Slayers
These people do not do shit in the game except slay. As the name implies. Slayers are essential but if your dumb ass is camping a single corner then stop and leave the game. Good slayers in rift advance and take out enemies for the spark runner
Normally have high kills and kd or a medium kd
3. Guards
Guards do just that. Guard or watch a certain area. Not to be confused with the dumbass campers. Guards will usually pick a spot and hold it down, slayers will normally help guards and spark runners should always pay attention to the kill feed to see how many enemies are down. Vice versa. Very similar to slayers but not the same.
Normally maintain a high kd with low kills
4. Defenders
These are the guys who will stay at only your spawn and defend when enemies try to spawn trap. Not to be confused with guards.
Good defenders normally have low kills and decent kds
5. The hurry up you stupid shit and dunk the spark'ers
These are the guys who will charge the enemy and hold their own against the enemy team for a few seconds only for the spark runner to be checking Instagram and making these poor guys die in vain. These guys play a huge role in whether or not you score. They are normally the first to go down but will regularly take an enemy down with them.
Spark runners need to run behind these guys and use them as shields.
6. The guys with supers.
A little more niche. But alas they have supers.
If you have your super please use it wisely as its a huge help in clearing areas.
Here's a list and how you can use them effectively
Supers and what they're good for
Gunslingers- use to clear rift spawns for your runner
Blade dancers- use to clear an area
I wouldn't recommend for rift spawns or the actual spark
Night stalkers- can be used for an area, spawn, or spark. Excellent at disorienting and giving an edge in speed
Strikers- I main a striker and I will normally use on heavies, spark spawns, or areas to clear
Sun bros- used to clear areas and rift spawns
Defenders- with weapons of light use near friendly snipers to help them win sniper fights
With blessing or armor place near objective or on the spark zone. I recommend using blessing and placing it by your team when you're charging a rift.
warning
defenders are more likely to be gang banged by supers so use wisely
Void walkers- use on the spark or rift are
I recommend vortex for the spark
And shatter if you plan on using it in the enemy rift spawn
Storm callers- excellent for all around clearing due to duration. Use whenever you see fit. Preferably to clear a rift zone or an are your team mate is going to run through. Most effective if you get two to use at the same time to maximize kill potential
Sun bros- using irking funeral and ignite fire bolt and solar grenades are perfect for making the enemy team back up and clearing areas. I suggest radiant skin, and or song of flame to assist your team in tossing more grenades than Bill Cosby has pills.
Builds for your class ( I don't main hunter or warlock so let me know)
Strikers- run juggernaut to tank damage while grabbing the spark, works well with shotgun builds
Flash bangs or Lightning nades
After shocks and aftermath
TG for max jukes
Defender already stated
Sun bro
Hammer of sol isn't too good so max out discipline and throw grenades everywhere. Recommended with something flames and armamentarium
Helpful tips for everyone
1. On frontier you can jump on to of the bridge. This is a powerful thing to know for shotgunners
This is how me and my team dominate snipers
We start off all jumping onto the bridge (warlocks can not due this because of their jump) and we jump down and kill the snipers
2. Vertigo controlling the teleporter is something no one really does but is essential. Always have one of your better players (sniper last word) on this platform defending
3. Memento. Control the spawns. That's all I can say for this map. Rush hard and fast, push Into the enemy spawn
4. Banner fall
A organized cluster -blam!- of a map
Try to use one lane as this is a 3-5 lane map. It's easy for a team to split up, try to not attack the rift trough door ways as you will be making it easier for the defending team to box you in
5. Cathedral of dusk pull out your ghost and hold Y or triangle
If you are running the spark and your team is behind or you're about to die or simply won't make it. Just suicide. You get points if you run a bit and the enemy doesn't get the 500 I believe for killing the you
The best set ups for running spark are
Blade dancer+mida+blink
Striker+mida+juggernaut

Bump, I feel like people need to look at this. I usually always run with a team of 6 and a specific spark runner. He usually scores at 10K each game or close to it. Slayers are good for also shutting down the other teams morale. :)
-
I always try to act as a shield for the runner but most of the the guys just run forward without looking or waiting for teammates to clear the path.. Some guy gave a good forest Gump analogy of that in another thread.
-
2 RepliesAlso a note on Juggernaut over Shoulder Charge -- you can play the 'squirrel' decoy when it appears since it looks somewhat similar to the rift carrier and you can draw the other team away from your runner when they see you and do a "OMG runner, kill kill kill"

I'm glad I'm at work so I can only use the phone app or this would be long and painful....Day1..I get spawned into a game where the score is 13,000 to 8,000 so I'm thinking maybe we can score and tie things up....I noticed a couple of Warlocks playing together so I'm starting to run towards the rift light..The Warlocks have it we can score...so I thought..After we loose 20,000 to 12,000 ...I see the #1 player on our fire team has picked up the rift light 6 times yet never scored. SO THEN I notice he is in a party of 5. I'm the outsider...Are you kidding me? This tells me these kids are over matched or they don't know what to do. I would think they have NO IDEA how Rift works which is sad..sad..pathetic..even ridiculous....So I finish the day running Rifts for teams when I can pick them up..which is rare when your or in a party...But I made it to lvl 3. A lot of hard work for some nasty armour. Thx for listening.

Edited by Tr4ppSt4r: 1/27/2016 5:58:31 PMYou got six positions and tasks for people.. Problem is in normal iron banner people couldn't accomplish one task.. Capture B. Do you really think they will do six.?
-
Many times I had thunderlord with about 40 rounds in it and couldnt catch up to the runner to protect him. He would just run into enemies and die.
-
Good guide, hopefully the more people that see it, the better solo/small party queues can be better.

Nice Breakdown of how to play in Rift. Too bad so many "elite" players are only after high KD's and are now crying so much that I have salt marks up to my should pads and it will take a week of PvE to scrub the salt off. Great post..

Bump for the scrubs to see

Edited by mi amour: 1/27/2016 5:46:06 PMThis!!!! Preach!!! It's good that someone understand this...you typed everything I was thinking yesterday like either your a spark runner or you kill stuff not both! Good post. I am a warlock voidwalker main and the power of blink and maxed agility I can be a spark runner, defend, or slay whatever the situation calls for. I hate when a warlock gets killed 2 steps in front of the rift...and I'm yelling blink dammit blink!

Haha, nice post. Very informative.
If you are a Gunslinger, Tripmine Grenades are your best friend. They can be used for blocking off tight spaces and ambushes on the Spark Runner. If you have the Young Ahamkara's Spine, definitely use them.
Two rift builds for IB: 1. "Not Today" Gunslinger ~Required: Young Ahamkara's Spine; Tripmine Grenades unlocked on Gunslinger subclass
Throw Tripmines in tight spaces near the spawn. It should stop Spawn-campers in their tracks. Throw them in the enemy Spark Runner's path, if you can.
2. "The PathClearer" Gunslinger ~Required: Acolyphage Symbiote; Combustion unlocked on Gunslinger subclass; Bad Juju (optional)
This only works when you have your super full. Pop GG around a corner, then shoot the people as they rush your Spark Runner.
Can I leave this here
-
6 RepliesQuestion: Can you use your super while carrying the spark?
-
2 RepliesThe problem is getting the rift in the first place as a solo. Either I'm there on my own, then 2-3 enemies come from opposite sides at exactly the same moment, ( they will be a fireteam) so do I stay and fight and hope some team mates arrive in time? Or leave them to take the rift but don't give them an easy kill with it?
-
3 Repliesrift has roles? thats dumb how are you suppose to find out what role you are or how do you find out that there are roles in that game mode in the first place?
-
-
No one cares about 1% but you. Not hard to get there in a game type not played in heavy rotation.
-
This guide was misprinted at the printer. The real guide follows: Step 1: get in fireteam of 6 Step 2: pubstomp, without strategy and who gives af about builds
-
I usually play number 5 or 3.
-
This post gave me cancer.
-
10 RepliesLol at your run max armor technique. Agility for days is the way to go if your ruining.
-
Edited by RiDONkulous: 1/27/2016 4:22:10 PMI have been using my striker with shoulder charge instead of juggernaut. Not as an offensive weapon, but as a defensive maneuver (sh. charged out of FoH and Rocket blast radius in same game). The extra mobility vs the shield from juggernaut are a toss up in my opinion. Edit: Solo player by the way

5 RepliesI'm usually 2, 4, and 5 with 6. Seriously the 5+6 though... I nuked some fools at the enemy Rift, clearing the area, only to find out the Runner got spooked and doubled back. They got killed. -sigh- Also, Nightstalkers - in times of desperation, to defend your Rift when they're closing in & you can't spot them, DROP AN ANCHOR ON THE RIFT.
-
2 RepliesYou forgot spawn killers
-
3 RepliesI find Rift to be rather chaotic when compared to other PvP modes (besides Mayhem), people running all over the place like headless chickens, and a lot of close combat. So I would feel a shotgun would be better suited than a sniper. Unless you're an awesome snipist.
