if any other 1% rift players have any other advice feel free to let me know. Let's get these kids to understand how to play.
There are 6 roles in rift. And you can't have all 6 people doing the same damn role or else you will be shit on.
This doesn't mean you can't multi task and do multiple but for god sake pick one and start playing like it's meant to be played. We don't need 6 defenders on the spawn.
1. Spark runner
Don't bother picking this shit up if you're a warlock with out blink, unless necessary warlocks can't make it as fast as Titans or hunters.
Don't bother if you're running low armor and you're under leveled. Let someone else take it.
Don't bother if you don't know the map or how to let the team go first instead of you running ahead like a jack ass and dying.
Normally have the most points without a lot of kills
2. Slayers
These people do not do shit in the game except slay. As the name implies. Slayers are essential but if your dumb ass is camping a single corner then stop and leave the game. Good slayers in rift advance and take out enemies for the spark runner
Normally have high kills and kd or a medium kd
3. Guards
Guards do just that. Guard or watch a certain area. Not to be confused with the dumbass campers. Guards will usually pick a spot and hold it down, slayers will normally help guards and spark runners should always pay attention to the kill feed to see how many enemies are down. Vice versa. Very similar to slayers but not the same.
Normally maintain a high kd with low kills
4. Defenders
These are the guys who will stay at only your spawn and defend when enemies try to spawn trap. Not to be confused with guards.
Good defenders normally have low kills and decent kds
5. The hurry up you stupid shit and dunk the spark'ers
These are the guys who will charge the enemy and hold their own against the enemy team for a few seconds only for the spark runner to be checking Instagram and making these poor guys die in vain. These guys play a huge role in whether or not you score. They are normally the first to go down but will regularly take an enemy down with them.
Spark runners need to run behind these guys and use them as shields.
6. The guys with supers.
A little more niche. But alas they have supers.
If you have your super please use it wisely as its a huge help in clearing areas.
Here's a list and how you can use them effectively
Supers and what they're good for
Gunslingers- use to clear rift spawns for your runner
Blade dancers- use to clear an area
I wouldn't recommend for rift spawns or the actual spark
Night stalkers- can be used for an area, spawn, or spark. Excellent at disorienting and giving an edge in speed
Strikers- I main a striker and I will normally use on heavies, spark spawns, or areas to clear
Sun bros- used to clear areas and rift spawns
Defenders- with weapons of light use near friendly snipers to help them win sniper fights
With blessing or armor place near objective or on the spark zone. I recommend using blessing and placing it by your team when you're charging a rift.
warning
defenders are more likely to be gang banged by supers so use wisely
Void walkers- use on the spark or rift are
I recommend vortex for the spark
And shatter if you plan on using it in the enemy rift spawn
Storm callers- excellent for all around clearing due to duration. Use whenever you see fit. Preferably to clear a rift zone or an are your team mate is going to run through. Most effective if you get two to use at the same time to maximize kill potential
Sun bros- using irking funeral and ignite fire bolt and solar grenades are perfect for making the enemy team back up and clearing areas. I suggest radiant skin, and or song of flame to assist your team in tossing more grenades than Bill Cosby has pills.
Builds for your class ( I don't main hunter or warlock so let me know)
Strikers- run juggernaut to tank damage while grabbing the spark, works well with shotgun builds
Flash bangs or Lightning nades
After shocks and aftermath
TG for max jukes
Defender already stated
Sun bro
Hammer of sol isn't too good so max out discipline and throw grenades everywhere. Recommended with something flames and armamentarium
Helpful tips for everyone
1. On frontier you can jump on to of the bridge. This is a powerful thing to know for shotgunners
This is how me and my team dominate snipers
We start off all jumping onto the bridge (warlocks can not due this because of their jump) and we jump down and kill the snipers
2. Vertigo controlling the teleporter is something no one really does but is essential. Always have one of your better players (sniper last word) on this platform defending
3. Memento. Control the spawns. That's all I can say for this map. Rush hard and fast, push Into the enemy spawn
4. Banner fall
A organized cluster -blam!- of a map
Try to use one lane as this is a 3-5 lane map. It's easy for a team to split up, try to not attack the rift trough door ways as you will be making it easier for the defending team to box you in
5. Cathedral of dusk pull out your ghost and hold Y or triangle
If you are running the spark and your team is behind or you're about to die or simply won't make it. Just suicide. You get points if you run a bit and the enemy doesn't get the 500 I believe for killing the you
The best set ups for running spark are
Blade dancer+mida+blink
Striker+mida+juggernaut

2 RepliesLet's just start with this: 1) when the spark is counting down to be picked up- move to the general area and try to defend it. How many games did I run to the spark to find the entire enemy team starting at me while my entire team waits in the back of our spawn? What the hell are they doing? This IB is basically like trying to get home after along day through traffic with nothing but idiots on the road and you are just trying to stay alive because the idiots are completely oblivious. This was another dumbass decision for Destiny.
-
Its simple. If you get the spark, wait for support or run towards your team to get support and stick with them. If you do not get the spark, make sure you are close to the runner whenever you can and clean up ahead, take a bullet for them, use supers to defend. If the enemy gets the spark and you have a super stay in the rift and activate it to deny it last minute. Its common sense really, especially if you played CTF before in any game.

Here, let me explain some other stuff. If you're not the spark runner, clear a path for them. Run the spark as much as you can. It's basically ensuring you get in top 3. If the enemy is about to ignite your rift, use anything that can instantly kill the runner. Always lock down the spark. You want your team to collect it. Remember to fill the gaps between the spark with as many kills as you can. It can only help.

2 RepliesWay to complicated. Point Shoot Die repeat Everything else is superfluous.
-
Another thing people need to do is go after the spark no matter what. Even If they have 4 guys next to it and you're alone try to grab it anyway to prevent them from getting it, it's better than them having a chance at running it back. Plus you'll get a nice little boost to your teams score.

6 RepliesI don't care who grabs the spark, or even if they die immediately after. As long as the enemy team doesn't grab it, that still gives us the edge.

3 RepliesEdited by Daziel: 1/27/2016 1:08:24 PMGood post, and if the scoring was properly balanced I'd probably agree with you - However it isn't and as someone below said ' the objective is to win right?' Frankly just grabbing the spark and legging it as best you can to their rift or frankly anywhere that gives you a progression score bonus is all a valid way to increase score. If you are running solo or in a small team you cannot rely on the rest of the team to play a specific role properly - hence I'm a spark grabber - If I'm on my own I'll grab it and go. If someone is with me, I'll try and run behind them if they have any idea of which way to go. But the absolute truth of the whole thing is... if i have the spark then they don't and I'm scoring all the points. Yes my KD in rift is shameful, but I often finish top table because of this strategy EDIT: Of course I often get shot about 20m from the spark pick up, but this is still better then letting the other team get the spark.

As long as your team controls the middle of the map you'll win every time
-
Rift is very easy to understand, it's just boring as all hell as a game mode.
-
Right so explain to me how exactly should this be organized by 6 random people who just immediately joined a match.
-
Wait, so I thought everyone was supposed to sit on the spark and try to grab it before your team mates and run blindly and frantically until getting a shotgun to the face. In the mean time your team mates don't defend you. Instead they stay back and try to steal the spark from the rest of your team.
-
TL;DR: 1. Don't grab the Spark and run straight to the enemy Rift like a stabbed pig! 2. Help your Spark runner to clear the path! Best way is: Push the enemy back to their Rift. Take the Spark, meet at one area of the map and then push one side.

2 RepliesI was MVP spark runner last night with a stormcaller warlock. High agility plus Mida (duh?). It doesn't matter if you are the class who can get it to the rift fastest, if you are the person who CAN get it to the rift.
-
What pisses me off more than anything else is when the runner grabs the spark an immediately starts for the rift without any team in front of him. Jesus, just slow down!

Teammate running spark+ Black Hole Bow near rift= Definite score and a nice multikill for your friend

Idk what my rift rank is but I'm pretty good and don't lose often. I always play the spark. I like using voidwalker mainly too. Ram and void armor chestpiece. Mida and shotgun

6 RepliesI have played a lot of PVP (in the top 4% for games and game time) but I have only done about 20 Rift matches. I have to admit that I don't really like it . . . but I do like the Iron Banner so I am going to jump in. That being said I want to say thanks very much for your advice on this! Generally when I have played Rift it was more or less this: If I was near the spark: Kill everyone on the other team that comes near it and wait for one of my team members to grab it. Once that happened move on ahead of the runner and kill everything possible en route to the rift. I will take your advice and see what happens when I can get to play starting Friday.
-
Stormcaller-Pulse grenades and Arc Web to theoretically cut off routes to the spark or the spark itself for a good amount of time. Ionic blink and focused burst. If you are pushing the rift, you have to approach with a focused burst and then a blink or else you will be mowed down by MIDAs and will waste your super. Don't stay grounded while shocking. Always jump around and strafe.

Saw Slayer was mentioned and knew it was good. Finally shine some light on the killers that thin the herd.

1. Grab spark and run like crazy! I really don't care about winning or losing, but when I play with my noobie friend I have the most fun I ever had in PvP.
