If Relic Runner Is Supposedly The Easiest Job At Oryx...
...then why does nobody ever want to do it?
My challenge mode run on Tuesday I was playing on my Titan and ready to go on Ogre killing duty for obvious reasons. Everybody started claiming assignments and the Fireteam leader asked who was going to run relic. Silence followed. I ended up volunteering because I don't mind running on my Titan, but I thought I would have better served the group on Ogres.
Second run yesterday on my Hunter I volunteered to run a plate because I knew I could snipe my knight easily and smoke bomb myself on the way back to mid if necessary to stay alive. Fireteam leader asked who was running relic. Silence followed again. This time the group had claimed their assignments and the leader told the one guy who didn't speak up that he was runner. The guy almost shit his pants, so once again I volunteer to run relic. Not a fan of doing it on my Hunter but I ran it anyway.
It really is an easy job compared to the chaos going on down on the ground, but why does nobody want to run it? Shouldn't people be arguing over who's going to run it, especially on challenge mode where you actually have to kill everything and get back to mid without dying?
EDIT: I see some folks mentioning that people are especially afraid to run it on no-knight on account of the ogres focusing on the runner. My answer to that is to take the extra time and run to the daughters pillar to pick up blessing and have a hunter smoke bomb you for invisibility before you head down into the chaos. The vessel will be a little closer and you still have time to grab the brand and get back up while Oryx slams. Even if your team has to start staggering before you get there it's still safer than having a relic runner exposed all by himself while everybody is safe in the bubbles up top.

The same reason they never wanted to run Relics in previous Raids. They don't want to mess up and be [b]the guy[/b]. I don't see why not. Relics are some of the most fun you have in the game. Stage fright?

1 ReplyIts the easiest role for the oryx fight but no one wants to do it because its also the most important role. If you dont get the aura then you are screwed no matter what and have to wipe. If you screw up on a plate and die you can blame the adds for it but if you screw up running the relic then there is nothing you can blame it on but yourself and its a lot of pressure. I personally love doing it its super fun

Just play to our strengths I guess. Some are just not confident in jumping puzzles and I understand why. All in all, it's teamwork that gets us through the Raid. Every Guardian have his/her role to play.

I always volunteer for running relic. I find it the most enjoyable and I can get the relic and be near the vessel before it even spawns.

Theres always going to be corner cutters. Since i can remember no one wanted run relic in VoG and the sword in Crotas End. I myself love to learn every position. #sherpa

I was running relic super fast killing Vessel with Sword ASAP, my team and I were able to beat Oryx Challenge Mode with a TITAN that haS NEVER ran Relic. I did not tell them I had never done it before because I knew I could DO IT! It's a stupid easy JOB

I was the main relic runner for VoG and the main sword guy for Crota amoung my friends. Using the Aegis and the Sword were fun and a little challenging, you didn't really need to be a pro but you certainly had to know what you were doing. Running those relics made you feel like a hero. But this time, and this is my only criticism of Kings Fall, the relic is boring. You make some jumps which after a few goes are easy, then you stand still and shoot a massive target while being invincible. People used to make the highest levels run relic and sword, now we tell the noobs to do it.

I think its actually boring AF but i know what you mean. No one else ever seems to want to do it so i always end up with it.

Relic for days. I'll happily run it forever and never shoot a ding darn thing. There's plenty of hiding holes to take the brand and not get shot by ogres

Its comparable to the sword bearer on crota. 1 person does it for their main raid group and no-one else does it to not waste time learning it. In the end we get 1 outta six people doing it consistently. And when we pug we hope someone is that one guy.

I will relic run anytime anywhere. There's really no applicable excuses. If it's no-knight the 2 players at AC just have to keep the ogres aggro'd and the runner has to keep moving. It isn't difficult in any sense once you get the jump pattern.

I always run it; every time. I have always been the guy using the Relic. I used the Aegis back in VoG, I used the Sword in Crota, and now I use whatever the Relic is called now. I just really enjoy it. It's more fun than standing motionless and shooting at mostly motionless enemies.

Some people feel they don't have enough experience and don't want to burden their group by failing at the relic and wasting everyone's time in the raid

I make damn sure to call Oryx Relic Runner everytime before we even start the raid.

I find that the hunter is easiest to jump with.

I love running it but using my hunter for it can be tough at times.....not anymore! BONES OF AAAYYYYYOOOO

Because people can't jump. If you kill knights then it is so easy. It can be a little difficult when the ogres stay alive because they focus on the runner

I'll run it every time.... I'll do the least amount of work for the same rewards
