If Relic Runner Is Supposedly The Easiest Job At Oryx...
...then why does nobody ever want to do it?
My challenge mode run on Tuesday I was playing on my Titan and ready to go on Ogre killing duty for obvious reasons. Everybody started claiming assignments and the Fireteam leader asked who was going to run relic. Silence followed. I ended up volunteering because I don't mind running on my Titan, but I thought I would have better served the group on Ogres.
Second run yesterday on my Hunter I volunteered to run a plate because I knew I could snipe my knight easily and smoke bomb myself on the way back to mid if necessary to stay alive. Fireteam leader asked who was running relic. Silence followed again. This time the group had claimed their assignments and the leader told the one guy who didn't speak up that he was runner. The guy almost shit his pants, so once again I volunteer to run relic. Not a fan of doing it on my Hunter but I ran it anyway.
It really is an easy job compared to the chaos going on down on the ground, but why does nobody want to run it? Shouldn't people be arguing over who's going to run it, especially on challenge mode where you actually have to kill everything and get back to mid without dying?
EDIT: I see some folks mentioning that people are especially afraid to run it on no-knight on account of the ogres focusing on the runner. My answer to that is to take the extra time and run to the daughters pillar to pick up blessing and have a hunter smoke bomb you for invisibility before you head down into the chaos. The vessel will be a little closer and you still have time to grab the brand and get back up while Oryx slams. Even if your team has to start staggering before you get there it's still safer than having a relic runner exposed all by himself while everybody is safe in the bubbles up top.

1 ReplyI can run relic, but also know that im better in the mess on the floor. I can adapt fast and react too. So if i see a knight walking by that shouldnt be there, i take it out in seconds.

Idk I just usually do it because I don't mind the pressure willingly knowing that if I -blam!- up it's a complete wipe. I also did Relic Running on VOG and Sword Bearer on Crota. I feel it's the more exciting part of the jobs.

That's why I love when people are afraid to do it because I take the job to do the relic and since it's so damn easy and your basically invincible while doing it I look like I'm doing a really good job xD

2 RepliesI run relic on all three of my toons.. Just like I did with the sword, just like I did in vog. Seems like i'm always the one in my raid group to run relic, don't know why.

3 RepliesI find it easy, but there are reasons why people don't like it: 1) They may not be very good at it, and thus can't actually do it quick enough or at all 2) They find the other jobs more "exciting" 3) A lot rests on their shoulders. You can recover from missing a sniper shot on an ogre or knight, but miss one platform and it's a wipe. Imagine you're on the last ogre round and you miss a jump. Your team won't be very happy.

6 RepliesIt literally is the easiest part. Run an exotic sword, preferably dark drinker or raze lighter and you can very quickly and easily take out the vessel. Shit I'm done getting the relic and I'm already getting the brand by the time the third ogre spawns.

I pretend like I can't do it now just in case I'm playing with people who die a lot. I opt for a platform where I can sit and chill. That's right, hate me.

Lol I'll run relic ANYDAY I get relic before the 4th ogre even spawns whether it's no knight or challenge mode if your wearing raid armor then you should have a problem simple as that.

I like running relic... I'm fast and I know I won't -blam!- it up. It's not that difficult and I hate when someone else runs it too slow, it makes it much harder for everyone else to stay alive.

I just suck at it. I guess it's the pressure of screwing the run up for everyone if I mess up. I can do that stuff all day when I'm by myself of with friends that I play with that are very chill but they have all moved on to different games for the moment (I hope).

quite often I've seen highest light level got stuck with running relic which is also poor form.

The small amount of times I do the raid with my friends, they always insist that one of the Hunters do it. And I'm always curious why, the extra jump doesn't help, and I can move faster than them. I've done it twice and haven't even fallen once, compared to how many times a Hunter has on my team. The jumps are so easy, I just don't get it.

Bad kids. Playing runner means you get to veg out on the raid. Love it xD
