...then why does nobody ever want to do it?
My challenge mode run on Tuesday I was playing on my Titan and ready to go on Ogre killing duty for obvious reasons. Everybody started claiming assignments and the Fireteam leader asked who was going to run relic. Silence followed. I ended up volunteering because I don't mind running on my Titan, but I thought I would have better served the group on Ogres.
Second run yesterday on my Hunter I volunteered to run a plate because I knew I could snipe my knight easily and smoke bomb myself on the way back to mid if necessary to stay alive. Fireteam leader asked who was running relic. Silence followed again. This time the group had claimed their assignments and the leader told the one guy who didn't speak up that he was runner. The guy almost shit his pants, so once again I volunteer to run relic. Not a fan of doing it on my Hunter but I ran it anyway.
It really is an easy job compared to the chaos going on down on the ground, but why does nobody want to run it? Shouldn't people be arguing over who's going to run it, especially on challenge mode where you actually have to kill everything and get back to mid without dying?
EDIT: I see some folks mentioning that people are especially afraid to run it on no-knight on account of the ogres focusing on the runner. My answer to that is to take the extra time and run to the daughters pillar to pick up blessing and have a hunter smoke bomb you for invisibility before you head down into the chaos. The vessel will be a little closer and you still have time to grab the brand and get back up while Oryx slams. Even if your team has to start staggering before you get there it's still safer than having a relic runner exposed all by himself while everybody is safe in the bubbles up top.

11 RepliesRunning relic is like being a kicker in the NFL. If you do it successfully, no one cares, if you mess up once people think you are an abomination.
-
The reason why nobody wants to do it is because you are expected to do a good job. It feels like you are "leading" the fireteam when you run relic, and that puts even more pressure on. Plus, this is an fps. Who wants to run around being shot at while invisible, unable to use your guns while everyone does the most fun part of this game: shoot the crap out of things? (Although you do get to do a cool Fus Ro Dah movement when you steal tje brand)

I run relic as often as I can. I love doing it, it so easy
-
I love running relic. It's the only part of the fight I find exciting and I keep trying to get it before the Vessel lands. Every part of the fight is easy though.
-
I love running relic. It's incredibly easy even though people think it's hard lol

Edited by The Fallen Zyzz: 12/18/2015 7:32:48 PMBecause the brunt of the pressure is on the relic runner. It isn't a necessarily hard job, but it is embarrassing to mess up. Kind of funny that we fear being judged by those too afraid to try though.
I run the relic when the TBD lands on me. I don't mind doing it. Titan Lift is pretty good for doing it anyway. My only problem is when the platforms spawn out of sequence and we have to start over. Most random groups are too uncoordinated to reset the plates and redo it in the correct sequence.
it's easy to make a mistake and most don't know what it's like so they get a lot of shit for messing up.
-
It actually takes skill to make sure everyone gets back alive. I've seen relic runners that just neglect the opposite side of oryx and the players die because of it. It take more than just jumping on a platform.
-
Because most people can't platform for shit in this game.
-
Just like every raid... Nothing like the old, who wants sword? Then just silence for about 10 seconds..
-
If a plate holder dies, you can salvage the run. If the runner dies, it's a wipe. I run if no one else wants to, but I'm stronger as a plate holder or titan duty.

1 ReplyI like running relic, it's pretty fun actually. It's just when you get into a group of full on try hards, one mistake could be your last. Jumped into a group, no one wanted to run relic. After 5 mins of uncomfortable silence, I obliged. First run went super smooth, second run the same. Third run, everybody ran to the middle too quick, (before I even slammed knight) and someone died. I was told I wasn't fast enough.. After 1 run. I told them I'd try again. Was told I'm bad. Joined another team and did it in 15 mins. Laughed because the team was still on the forums a half hour later looking for relic runner

Nobody wants to do it because it's quite easy to get killed by ogres if your team don't get them down quickly enough.
-
Some people just don't want the pressure. If everyone knows it's the easiest, they're going to look real bad when they screw up.

1 ReplyEdited by PsykoBeasty: 12/18/2015 8:51:52 AMAll jobs are easy on challenge oryx... Reasons for wipe include but are not limited to : 1) runner grabs relic, drops down but doesn't soften the drop with a jump...dies...loses relic so vessel runs amok. 2) guys on plates don't help kill their ogres...then forget or don't know to kill their respective Knights. Result = ogres all over the map and once they're dead, the Knights gobble up their blighted lights. 3) that one player ( unfortunately usually sounds very young ) wants to not listen to more experienced players. Does what he wants i.e runs stormcaller on plate 1 instead of sunsinger. He dies...team wipes. 4) members of the fireteam actually having no idea what they're doing. Have never done kill Knights strat on oryx. Running to wrong plate...not running to a plate at all. 5) there's always that one player who is 304 light but his friend is 318 and insists the 304 can hold his own. An acolyte looks in his general direction *guardian down*. The team continue to attempt to drag the 304 through the cp. repeated wipes being the fault of the low light player. TL:DR All jobs are easy on oryx as long as players are sufficient light level and know how to do their respective jobs efficiently so as to not burden the rest of the team

I do it no problem.
-
I'll run relic on any character any time. Not that it's easy, but more I just enjoy the pressure. If I crack and mistime a jump I gotta own that sh!t. And then take my verbal lashings from the fireteam. Hahah.
-
Never got a chance, it's probably easy but someone is already running the relic and pretty confident.
-
Love running it on my hunter it's a stressful but really easy part of the raid at least 95% I run it perfect and am stuck waiting for the vessel for a few short seconds
-
I always run relic as it seems every raid group I join has an astonishing inability to use the jump button.
-
It is the easiest. Just gets boring after a while. Rather shoot some things in the face.
-
1 ReplyI was doing hard mode last week and at oryx leader asks who wants to run and there was nothing but crickets, i put my hand up and said i have only done it once before (runner died on shade) but i will give it a try. First run went well then on the second run the platform did not appear and i fell down, i was promptly told "god you suck" and was kicked.
-
Its probs becuase its the easiest job so if you stuff up everyone is like
omg ur so shit

git gud

anyone else want to do it
Plus technically only 1 in 6 people have experience in running
-
Its easiest thing To do, our team fights over being the runner everytime
-
I think its because if you f up as the runner it's a lot easier to pin point what exactly happened. Everyone seems to turn into d'bags in the raid, yet they don't have the balls to volunteer to do any duties.
-
I enjoy running it, rather be up top than in the middle of the chaos down below
