Why is it that Christians are ridiculed for their beliefs? They're told they're old fashioned, deluded, or completely preposterous for putting their faith in a God Who created all things and set all things in motion. Yet Atheists and Agnostics are heralded as being modern thinkers, intellectuals, and the epitome of a great society for putting their faith in nothing essentially. To rationalize their origin story, Atheists have to break the laws of science, yet the Christians are wrong.
Someone explain this for me please.
Just a quick note: I want you to know that I do not harbor any sort of resentment or hatred for those who do not hold my Christian beliefs. This is just something I'm curious to know about.
Edited by JET_Dudley: 12/2/2015 7:21:51 PMHow do atheists break the laws of science to rationalize their origin? What do you mean? People appreciate agnostic and atheist views because they are more current and not nearly as archaic and intolerant as christian views. However, it does seem like christianity is trying to change to a more relatable viewpoint, only the future will tell. Edit: ps: a belief in science is not a belief in nothing.

10 RepliesEdited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 12/1/2015 9:39:28 PMI have no explanation for things that aren't happening and that aren't true. To dismiss anything we've learned through the scientific method in favor of a belief is to be apathetic of reality. To teach children a belief as fact is detrimental to our advancement as a species. I will most certainly criticize people that do these things.

The only time ridicule someone's beliefs, religious or otherwise, is when act like a dick about it towards others. To me both possibilities of the universe being created by an omnipotent entity, or through random chance are equally insane when you think about it. But obviously one of them had to have happened.

11 RepliesLet me help fix your statements....
for putting their faith in something that they have no proof of, along with claiming that a 5,000 year old document written by a bunch of people is completely infallible.

for using their brains to rationally and logically review and research all the facts available to them to make an informed decision. To rationalize their origin story, Atheists use the laws of science unlike Christians who tend to ignore the laws of science.
Christians are normally ridiculed for their beliefs when they can't support them or explain them, or when they make false claims about others, or when they attempt to claim some sort of right that they don't have (like forcing a classroom to say a prayer).

5 RepliesBecause we're not afraid to admit we dont know something, and we look for an answer. We dont make up silly stories to explain things.

Christians are not ridiculed; Christians who try to pretend that Christianity is scientifically provable are dismissed.

1 ReplyEdited by Gooch_McGrundle: 11/30/2015 2:06:25 AMAtheism doesn't have an "origin story" We know that we do not know the answers. My personal brand of Atheism has literally no connection to "faith". I believe what can be proven, and I keep an open mind to unproven theories that hold water. My problem with Christians is that they're so far separated from the teachings of their "savior" that he would look on them in disgust. The entire institution is a cult devised to control the masses. It was put together, taking from many other religions, and installed in Rome 300 years after the death of Jesus. The Romans knew they were spread out too far and were losing control, and this consolidated their power. None of that would bother me if anyone actually practiced his teachings Do we see Christians washing the feet of the homeless? Do we see them giving what they can until everyone is safe and fed and housed? Do we see them treating our brothers and sisters of other faiths and nationalities like brothers and sisters? We see them gambling, ignoring the multitudes of poverty stricken people, and blindly propping up a system devised keep the powerful in power. We see pastors living in mega mansions. We see countless priests committing unspeakable sex crimes. We see them touting their Christianity as a defense mechanism and not spending a single day as a good person. Christianity is great. However Christians are misguided. The hypocrisy and conspiracy is too much for me to handle. The actual philosophies are gold, the "stories", in my opinion, were meant to teach ideals and not to be treated as a historical text. The modern interpretation of Christianity is a let down to anyone actually interested in existentialism or philosophy.
if you're the one good christian out there, much respect. However the institution is too full of greed and too lacking in upholding the philosophical ideals they preach.

You may think the Roman Empire was over 1700 years ago, but it simply transitioned in to the English empire and currently, the American empire.
Because Science has disproved and left behind the need for faith in stories. Now you can actually know how the universe and the world works without needing blind faith in what some old dude in a church preaches about a book and some other made up dude named "God"

24 RepliesAll these kids saying, "THE UNIVERSE WASN'T MADE IN 4,000 YEARS YOU IDIOT!!" Not even giving explanations. It's perfectly possible, try not to think something is wrong because it's not okay in your opinion.

Because most people are the type of idiots who clump together anyone from a group as being the exact same person. So since the loudest Christians are usually the dumb ones, that's how the rest of them get stereotyped.

1 ReplyBecause their beliefs are ridiculous.

Im agnostic but i could honestly care less how other people feel. Believe in a god or dont, makes no difference to me. I just choose to not put my "faith" in something that can't be proved or seen. That's me though, I don't get bothered by religious people or atheists.

Edited by kyuss534: 11/28/2015 3:54:49 AMReligion is all good. You just sometimes get a$$holes like ISIS giving religion a bad name. Atheist, Christian, doesn't really matter. Neither can give a full explains took on how everything once was before creation/Big Bang, or how they took place.
I'm Christian btw
It's simple: Believing that something that cannot be proven or unproven exists is just as unscientific as believing that it does not exist. Thanks Carl Sagan. Now let's all pack up our bags and go home because this "debate" is a waste of time.

Your question answers it's self. Religion is old fashioned

That's your answer

1 ReplyIn all fairness, Christian and Catholic beliefs have dominated western culture since around 400 C.E. (A.D. if you prefer) when it was declared the religion of Rome. At one time, it was a crime to challenge the church's teachings; just look at Galileo, or Kepler. But to answer your question, atheists aren't tied to a belief of creation and the will of a god. So questions like "Where did we come from" and "Why are we here" don't have "simple" answers. There are Christian who seek answers outside God, unfortunately their names elude me at the moment.

Majority of these people are ex Christians lashing out at an ideal forced upon them. It's a step in growth.
