Yes, snipers are becoming a slight issue

So before I start, I'll say this before anyone else does. Yes, I love to use a shotgun Yes, I have a .97 KD (learning to play pvp took it's toll) Yes, I main a hunter (since apparently using a specific class makes me whiny?) Hell yeah, I used thorn like crazy when it was king. If you're going to ignore the post and comment about how these are "the only things you see on the forums now" and how I should just "stop whining and git gud", the back button is on the top left of your screen. Please click it. I can agree that snipers are by far one of the weapons that take the most skill to use in this game. If you don't get that headshot, you'd better hope that you can lay off another body shot quick. But here's the thing, the amount of "skill" they require really isn't all that much. Hell yeah, it requires a lot more skill than a shotgun ever did, but in reality it isn't that far off. I can agree that shotguns needed a nerf, the range they were killing from *cough felwinters conspiracy* was ridiculous. But they were just nerfed so much that now all I see when I turn any corner in any map is a red glare. I legit have people quick scoping me from hand cannon range. So I decided to give snipers a try. I watched all of TrueVanguards tutorials, practiced for 10 minutes, and went into a control match with my 1000 yards of aim assist. I did incredibly well, and continued to do so for 5-6 matches after until I switched to my shotty again. Just to make this clear, I [b][u]DO NOT[/u][/b] think snipers need a nerf. They do what they're supposed to do, they kill from a long range. What I do think is that we need to introduce mechanics that make snipers actually feel like snipers and not a really long scout rifle that can 1 shot you in the head. Things like: - Weapons sway (hold your breath) - Lower aim assist (let's be honest, almost all FPS have aim assist, but destinys is by far the most forgiving I've seen) - Bullet curve Some argue that snipers shouldn't have sway because "Bungie never did it in Halo". But let's be honest guys, Bungie never gave you a half assed story and unbalanced pvp in halo either, did they? Some of you might not share the same thoughts I do, and that's fine, this is just my opinion. I just really wanted to write it out and see if anyone else thought the same way.       • Add more flinching to snipers when you are getting shot with any weapon. Problem solved. You're either quicker then they are or you're screwed.

      • I think aim assist needs to be WAY lower on them. If something is a GUARANTEED one shot to the head, you shouldn't be helping unskilled players get headshots. Take that away and you will be left with only the truly skilled shooters using them all the time.

        • With the stability nerfs to primaries, I believe there were some, snipers will become OP if they aren't tweaked

        • I read your post. And i kinda agree with you in terms of how much skill it takes to use a sniper. And the reason i say kinda, is because there is a vast portion of the community that physically cant snipe. I dont like bulletcurve but that is not a machanic in the game. That is lag. Holding you breath seems a little rediculas for a game like destiny. Lets look at destiny pvp compared to battle field pvp. In battle field a hold breath machanic makes sense because your a regular soldier taking shots consistantly 500 plus yards. In destiny 90% of all maps are really close quarters, sniping on pantheon it wouldnt make a lot of sense to hold you breath to take a shot only 50-65 yards away. And not to mention we as gaurdiens we are not excatly a regular soldier, we are space magic throwing badasses. As for sway, i dont think that will solve any issues long term. Anyone who is good at sniping is going to adapt quicking and people that are okay at sniping are still just gonna okay at sniping. I also do not see aim assist as problem. The problem that i identify as the biggest contributer to BS snipe shots and making it too easy is hitscan. Take away hitscan on snipers for starters, dont change anything else just the hitscan and see the results.

          • Snipin in destiny is nothing near as bad as CoD. Until there comes a time where you can 360 no scope for example i see nothing wrong with snipers

          • It baffles me how many people are misinformed about aim assist. Even after the countless post explaining exactly what it does on snipers. It does not give the bullets any magnetism, it only slows the reticle when close to a hit box (head or body.)

              I think snipers should have LESS aim assist. Even after the December nerf I will still run a shotty or fusion in PVP. But overall two particular weapons need to be fixed: 1K Stare and Conspiracy Theory D. They're both cheap as heck, and if you use em, don't fool yourself into thinking your so "skilled' cause you aren't. Luck in the chamber is also a problem. But the requirement for it to be a crit shot will fix the one shot - body shot - kills. But aim assist needs some attention IMO

              • I bought the nerwins mercy from the previous IB and infused to 306. On most maps, this gun is stable enough to head shot kill snipers with 2-3 trigger pulls. That being said, most of the maps are small making snipers kind of silly to use because there is no range advantage for the sniper. Bastion and the large moon map are the only two maps where a sniper really shines. I don't think snipers should be done away with in crucible but I would suggest a lower ammo cap for them. Snipers can be devastating like a launcher but launchers have the strictest ammo cap.

              • Just to be clear, you do know that aim assist for snipers only impacts the amount of time your sights stick to the target while moving your radicals across the screen, right? So aim assist only really helps with sweeping and flicking. That being said, I believe the only thing they really need to do is introduce gun sway. Basically make it harder to hit shots while adjusting your sights. Basically, look at year 1 No Land Beyond back when that sucker would bend like a wet noodle when moving.

              • Snipers don't have any bullet curve. Aim assist is also as much as a pain as it is a benefit - when your reticle gets moved off your target by another person moving. The inaccuracy due to sway is what the range and accuracy stats include.

              • How about getting more snipers that can Rez snipe , and get rid of the scopes and perks that can give you the ability to snipe at close range I.e. Ambush and snapshot ( hate if you want but they are an issue with snipers

                    Anyone can get a kill with a shot gun but not everyone can kill with a sniper. I do not use a shotgun except for certain bounties. Why do you think they nerfed shotguns before snipers? They haven't even nerfed snipers because there no need. 1000 yard isn't even the sniper with the most aim assist. It's defiance of Yasmin and 1000 yard is number 8 on the list of high aim assist snipers so just delete your post you sound dumb.

Watching the Destiny YouTubers pride themselves on how skillful they are is equal parts amusing and annoying, because like you said, it doesn't really require all that much skill. All they use is 1000 Yard Stare "because it can kill an overshielded player" (read: because they're utterly dependent on it's high aim assist and suck with other snipers) Halo didn't have scope sway because if you were shot while zoomed in, you unzoomed and flinched. You still had to be skillful and accurate to get the kill. Same effect as scope sway, just done in a different way. High aim assist on snipers is ridiculous, especially when they're hit scan and aren't affected by gravity. The amount of quick scoping going on is reminiscent of Call of Duty.

                      • Hold areas of the map that compliment your guns range. It's quite simple. Aside from the occasional unflinching/quick scope sniper every map has areas that are snipe free.

                        Your a Shotgun noob lol. its not about it being noobie , but instead rather annoying. After all lol Shotgun noobs sacrifice range, we only have ourselves to blame for letting them close enough. Never do pvp on destiny its real effing cheap. might do a little when hard raid is done this week just for banner armour. Bungie need to split the servers like dice does for battlefield it would decrease lag. Just last week tried iron banner and got 2 to 3 headshots on a mid air opponent that day, I was incorporating battlefield physics because its all I know, mind you i'm kind of new at sniping fullstop. Could have been aim assist but I didn't feel no pull plus I always switch that setting off when possible. could be unseen assist which ive noticed in pve. Battlefield sniping by far is the best simulation with bullet drop and sway but even with all noob setting's off the gun still pulls off occasionally. Fyi never used a shotgun not once in pvp on any game they're just cheap in every way.
