What Bungie could've done with the swords would be as follows:
Give each class a different perk/ability whist using a sword
Titan: increased damage resistance
Hunter: faster attacks and movement
Warlock: more sword energy/reduced energy usage and/or increased block
Just a thought really.

Ohhh what if they made class specific swords. Examples Titans get a big ask claymore to go with their iron banner armor Hunters get two short length katanas. And warlocks get plasma/lightsaber swords.
