The level cap has been raised again so soon. This is turning into a grind fest. People are barely hitting 310 and are complaining about unfair raid drops such as receiving gear you already own at a lower light. Hard mode is going to have armor dropping above 310, instead it should yield elemental primaries along with armor that can possibly be maxed at 310. Destiny always had some sort of grind but it's never felt this bad and with hard mode coming along its only getting worse.
Bungie has created a carrot that is nearly impossible to obtain. Some simple numbers to support my statement. Current raid armor drops anywhere between 300-310, that's a 1/11 chance that you will get a piece of gear at maxed light. If that wasn't bad enough it seems the vast majority of people are getting more mouldering shards than anything else. Armor drops are infrequent and on top of that the raid can only be completed once a week for rewards.
Exotics are another option to obtain max level but even then it's another endless chase. Since 3 of Coins has been nerfed a large portion of players are reporting infrequent exotic drops even when using the coins as they were meant to. I've used about 60 coins since the nerf and from my experience for best results you need to wait 20 minutes between usage. I've netted an average of 1 exotic per 5 coins using the aforementioned cooldown time. Less than a handful of those were maxed at 310. If the item you want to infuse is less than 305 then it will not reach 310. A lot of random factors involved right? To make things worse, the engrams are random as well (obviously). So 7 different possible engrams, 1/7 chances the one you need drops. Plus the chance that it actually decodes to max light. It's an endless grind!
For once the odds are really against us! This will be an endless grind to attain overall max light. The closer you get to max, the harder it will become to attain overall max light level.
Edit- Lots of people saying Destiny is an MMO and it is not. MMOs do not raise the level cap so often like Destiny. World of Warcraft for example, Mists of Pandaria was released in 2012 and then the next expansion, Warlords of Draenor was released in 2014. For TWO YEARS the level cap was the same but the game had enough CONTENT to sustain a healthy population for that long.
Which brings me to my next point, grinding ≠ content. Some people are saying grinding for gear is content, it baffles me that people actually think that. Grinding the same content over and over again for better gear does not equal content. How does anyone even think that?
Edit 2- WoW raises gear level every several months. Not twice in a month and the gear isn't a random light level like ours. My point stands. Also for those that keep mentioning VOG helmet. It's not one piece of gear that is keeping us from the new cap and even without the VOG helmet you could reach the cap as a "fake 30" (fun times lol). We now have to reacquire ALL weapons and ALL armor for the new cap, not just one item that is keeping us from the current cap.

ilvl = light level if you're comparing WoW to Destiny. Has nothing to do with level cap. This makes your argument invalid. If we got max light level gear out of easymode raid, we'd simply blow through hard mode. Proper raid progression is what they were going for, and tiering off loot is a simple/reasonable setup. All of you damn cry babies on this forum need to just stop. If I could force feed prozac to all the whistle blowing whine bags in this community, I would. Too many people here are so quick to complain about things, instead of taking a step back and looking at all possible reasons something was changed.

Is a game an mmo when you can only play with 6 other people?
-
1 ReplyI think you're just pissed you couldn't get any higher
-
6 RepliesI Don't see your point. It would seem to me, based on your comments, that the end game to you is max light level. And that for some reason, a higher light level bothers you. You know, you don't HAVE to play the game. If you want it to be over, find another game. Destiny is an MMO. Open world questing, dailies, gathering, dungeons and raids. Various PVP modes too. It's an MMO. Grinding for gear is part of every MMO, and part of Destiny. It's the carrot that keeps players playing. Sounds to me like you just don't like Destiny. That's fine, I just don't understand why you're still here.
-
Why do you care about hitting max level? There is no advantage of being over 300 in PVE. Even in iron banner the light level differences aren't noticeable from my experience. I'm glad that they are adding a new cap to "grind" for. I don't even consider it a grind. I enjoy playing the raid over and over again because it's FUN. That's right, fun. Sure it might seem repetitive but I run it with different groups each week and we all have a blast laughing and just talking about the game. Also they are adding new content. Elemental primaries, the guns have different skins, and so do the armor pieces. If you don't like what they're doing then go play something else.

The hard mode will easily get people to 310, Bc it's the lowest level it'll drop. Then getting to the max level for now should take more than a day
-
Twice in a month, but maybe the fourth in a year. I wouldn't panic yet
-
3 RepliesWhat grind?? TTK has only been out a month and people are already capped 310 and have nothing to do... Why on earth would you want it to be easier and less of a grind? You would just then finish everything 2 weeks after the launch and have nothing left to do. Embrace the fact there is at lease 1 point to playing this game once you have finished the content/story/raid.
-
Pretty accurate I would say.
-
1 ReplyGreat post! I can't believe that some people think grinding for gear equals new content lolololol
-
And either way, they never did once say that 310 was the level cap. People assumed it before everything of ttk was released. Technically we dont even know it 320 is max
-
Dude its an mmo. Get used to it
-
I don't think they ever stated the "cap" 310 was never settled as the max. 320 isn't settled to be the max either so it still may be higher... I agree it's a tedious grind.
-
4 Replies310 isn't the carrot though, 300+ was. The raid was doable in the 280s and easy in the 290s. The new light system can be frustrating for sure, but anything over 300 for normal mode was just fluff. For hard mode, we should be fine going in at anything over 300. After the first few bosses, most people will be close to if not over 310. Getting to 320 or whatever will be the same pain that 310 was, but it will be equally unnecessary.
-
I'm telling ya man, give up on Destiny. I feels better to play games that are actually good
-
WoW is a terrible comparison if you're arguing that Bungie has made the carrot to hard to obtain. WoW's literal existence is to ensure you never reach the carrot, I played that game for 10 years and there was something to do every single day I logged in.

1 ReplyWait until 320 is out and all of our fully upgraded items will either have to be infused (at least twice: 310 infused with 320 yields 317, and 317 has to be infused by another 320 to get to 320), or left behind. And getting two items at 320 per weapon and armour slot is not easy (1/11 chance for each and you need 9 slots). 3oC would make this easier, but with a chance of dropping below 320, and a lack of boots, heavy weapon, and ghost exotic engrams, the task is even harder. Once you are close to 320, then you have to reinvest the same level of grinding to get to 330!! I am already in pain explaining this, imagine doing it.

Want some french-cries with that waaah-burger?
-
1 ReplyI liked the old leveling system a lot better. This one just forces you to use the highest level weapon you have instead of the one you like.
-
Who said they raised the level? The Harrowed version of the weapons and armor have always been there we just never had the stats for them before now. That being said the gear should be a set to a certain level. Normal to 310 and Harrowed to 320.
This is turning into a grind fest.
This is the greatest understatement of all time. It's like saying Super Mario Brothers is turning into a platformer.

2 RepliesI think the drop rate and light lvl is just fine. I have all my characters between 302 and 308. This is going to be more then enough light to get through hard mode. I like the way the items drop because it increases the amount of time i need to complete to hit 310, but I can also take the lover light gear that one character doesn't need and infuse it in another characters gear to help increase that character.

Edited by Dooodley: 10/20/2015 4:32:19 PMThe Bungie Team has, from launch, time and time again shown that they're working without some sense of direction. It's really starting to feel like a halfassed product and the result of week to week discussions in the Bungie HQ. Progression and economy are corner stones in these type of games yet they've been totally neglected. In the first year they've already managed to add several new level/light caps, they're re-worked how we level even, they've replaced the main currencies and gone back n' forth on the additional ones - such as motes and strange coins , they've nerfed reputation and QoL systems to the ground and they've rendered "not so old content" completely moot.

I just don't understand why the would nerf WEAPON PARTS.
jk they're too Op
2 RepliesExcellent post. Just brings home the thought that my body is so ready for....NOVEMBER 10TH!!

4 RepliesWorst of all is raid gear and weapons drop anywhere from 290 to 310. It's a bit demoralizing. Raid gear and weapons should start at 305
