The level cap has been raised again so soon. This is turning into a grind fest. People are barely hitting 310 and are complaining about unfair raid drops such as receiving gear you already own at a lower light. Hard mode is going to have armor dropping above 310, instead it should yield elemental primaries along with armor that can possibly be maxed at 310. Destiny always had some sort of grind but it's never felt this bad and with hard mode coming along its only getting worse.
Bungie has created a carrot that is nearly impossible to obtain. Some simple numbers to support my statement. Current raid armor drops anywhere between 300-310, that's a 1/11 chance that you will get a piece of gear at maxed light. If that wasn't bad enough it seems the vast majority of people are getting more mouldering shards than anything else. Armor drops are infrequent and on top of that the raid can only be completed once a week for rewards.
Exotics are another option to obtain max level but even then it's another endless chase. Since 3 of Coins has been nerfed a large portion of players are reporting infrequent exotic drops even when using the coins as they were meant to. I've used about 60 coins since the nerf and from my experience for best results you need to wait 20 minutes between usage. I've netted an average of 1 exotic per 5 coins using the aforementioned cooldown time. Less than a handful of those were maxed at 310. If the item you want to infuse is less than 305 then it will not reach 310. A lot of random factors involved right? To make things worse, the engrams are random as well (obviously). So 7 different possible engrams, 1/7 chances the one you need drops. Plus the chance that it actually decodes to max light. It's an endless grind!
For once the odds are really against us! This will be an endless grind to attain overall max light. The closer you get to max, the harder it will become to attain overall max light level.
Edit- Lots of people saying Destiny is an MMO and it is not. MMOs do not raise the level cap so often like Destiny. World of Warcraft for example, Mists of Pandaria was released in 2012 and then the next expansion, Warlords of Draenor was released in 2014. For TWO YEARS the level cap was the same but the game had enough CONTENT to sustain a healthy population for that long.
Which brings me to my next point, grinding ≠ content. Some people are saying grinding for gear is content, it baffles me that people actually think that. Grinding the same content over and over again for better gear does not equal content. How does anyone even think that?
Edit 2- WoW raises gear level every several months. Not twice in a month and the gear isn't a random light level like ours. My point stands. Also for those that keep mentioning VOG helmet. It's not one piece of gear that is keeping us from the new cap and even without the VOG helmet you could reach the cap as a "fake 30" (fun times lol). We now have to reacquire ALL weapons and ALL armor for the new cap, not just one item that is keeping us from the current cap.

7 RepliesI love how people don't understand MMO leveling systems. You should check out the grind in other games that are real MMOs max light is so much harder to accomplish that's the point. To make you grind and stay invested in the game that's what games like this are meant to do.

2 RepliesHonestly 28-30 was the hardest grind, you kids these days don't even know what that was like back in Vanilla. Had to walk to school in the god damn snow 3 miles! WITH NO SHOES!
-
You assumed that there is an equal probability of getting each level of light in each piece of gear. I doubt this is the case for many reasons. I would guess that 310 is more rare than 304 or 305

I think this guy needs to find a new game. People complain to much about this game. Either like the game for what it currently is and play it...or move on

Edited by Wrathful: 10/21/2015 12:23:02 AMTL;DR What I don't like is that you have to grind strikes and hope for 310 infusion exotics just to get to 310. Now they release a raid that has recommended light of 310. I think the highest piece of raid gear I've got was 306.

1 ReplyYou are seriously complaining? Stfu noob

Shut up and do your homework kid

2 RepliesI like doing the raid, I like building a group I can speed run the raid with, I like beating my runs, I like being challenged (first run/hard mode) But most of all I like not being spoon fed everything like a god damn casual Tl;dr
get rekt
1 ReplySooo True...! First all the 280 exotic gears will be sharded...then 290...then 310.. Exotic gears should be dropped matched with players light level. Level 300+ player will only get 310 or 330...etc.

5 RepliesWe want more content Jesus, this is too much content I'm max level, what do I do now? Damnit I was almost max level!

This is why I gave up. I have only limited time each day to play and this game became way too complicated and overwhelming with the TTK changes and the approach to infusion and having to always have your max light while decrypting engrams (something I didn't know for a long time ) I have not even beaten the Oryx raid because I'm only 296 light (although I've beaten oryz and daughters as I was invited on a checkpoint ) Also sucks my usual raid group did not upgrade from ps3. So basically I don't have friends to run the raid with regularly on ps4. Oh well. Still love playing the game.

1 ReplyThe "grind" is Bungie's way of keeping us invested in the game. IMO improving the drops from KF will make a huge difference for everyone. I don't ever want it to be as easy as HoW to reach max light. There's far quicker ways to get engrams from 3oC. e.g. Pop a 3oC, go kill Ultra Knight, switch characters & rinse & repeat ;)

I've done the raid twice. Got 4 items, 300, 304, 304, 305. Some real bollux there. And don't even get me started on the oryx chest.
-
lol not even close
-
They never really said that 310 was a cap?
-
I have one question for you: why do you need to be the max level so bad? 309 isn't that much worse than 310. There is no desperate need to be the absolute max level.
-
It's lack of education (schooling and gaming) that prevents people from understanding the difference between words. Dlc vs expansion. Content vs grind. Rehashed content vs new content. Education matters people. Educate yourselves.

Edited by Daetok: 10/20/2015 5:01:05 PMRemember when all the Christmas noobs said this about The Dark Below? There were even articles about the "absolutely ridiculous" grind to obtain radiant energy/shards. Look bitch, your overwhelming tears only flood and sink your boat. Your bitching leads to HoW content. Never again do I want to be maxed in 3-6 hours. Vanilla destiny was a grind. Looking at legendary gear made it seem legendary because it was so difficult to obtain. Getting a legendary engram was a moment you cherished. We had apps on our phones to map the public events because it was the only other way to get ascendant energies. Shut your mouth scrub.

3 RepliesDo you not remember the road to 30? It was nearly impossible! You had to get extremely lucky in order to obtain 30. People were literally deleting character's and power leveling them over and over just so they could run the vog multiple times a week. I think the problem with reaching cap level is the mentality people have after experiencing the dark below dlc.

ilvl = light level if you're comparing WoW to Destiny. Has nothing to do with level cap. This makes your argument invalid. If we got max light level gear out of easymode raid, we'd simply blow through hard mode. Proper raid progression is what they were going for, and tiering off loot is a simple/reasonable setup. All of you damn cry babies on this forum need to just stop. If I could force feed prozac to all the whistle blowing whine bags in this community, I would. Too many people here are so quick to complain about things, instead of taking a step back and looking at all possible reasons something was changed.
