Is it really fair just to ban people with poor internet?

Seems really unfair to me. Instead of maybe improving the matchmaking or something bungie takes the easy route and listen to the crybabies. Many of these people may have been playing fair but their connection may take a dip every once in a while, then they get banned. This is the first game I have heard of that bans players not for cheating, but for not buying better internet. Halo never did that, and bungie made halo... I know a few of my friends have had internet problem, now I won't be able to play with them in crucible because they'll get banned. To me, this seem really unfair. edit: So many people are happy about these bans. I am disgusted to be a part of this community, to make these unfair bans rather than just find a way to solve it with maybe matchmaking or dedicated servers. People payed as much as for their current internet provider which could be limited in some areas, payed for the expansions to continue playing, and then get banned from part of the game for simply have poor internet. Not great with advertising either: "Come play Destiny, we ban players with poor internet!" Even if you don't like having to play against someone with poor internet, remember there could have been another solution, but no you immediately cry to ban them, heartless. Instead of focusing on bans, bungie should have focused on better matchmaking in my opinion.

Restricted access is unfair, but if you are just lagging so bad it's actually ruining the experience for players in the lobby, you should be booted. Your money is not any better than mine so if your lag ruins my game and 10 others, you shouldn't be in that particular game. It's frustrating when you can't kill people but they can kill you. A lot of scenarios I understand people complain and it isn't the case but there is a lot of undeniable instances where that person should simply not be there. Like I said just eliminating the activity is absolutely unfair for those players, but something had to be done also, because they did something similar with BO2. Which I think would work better where your out for minutes, not long periods. Because if you're just having bad connections for hours on end you are dying the game for a load of players which isn't that fair either. This is just a temporary step im sure to the actual solution.

  • I have 50 mb fibre optic broadband and my connection in Destiny goes from great to utter shit all the time. In fact it's been abysmal ever since TTK dropped, to the point where PvP is now unplayable. Black Ops 3 will hopefully have far superior servers.

  • The problem is that the people with the poor connection somehow manage to have the advantage. Whether it be an issue with the coding or not is objective. However, until that issue is resolved, the foremost reasonable solution is to refrain from allowing these people into the Crucible. And, as unfortunate as that may be, the woes of the one simply don't outweigh those of the many. In other words, would you rather an entire lobby suffer at the hands of a singular individual or disappoint the (unintentional) perpetrator by locking him out?

  • No! I pay for good internet. My roommate don't have any problems, but every time I go too iron banner I have too restart my P's4 to make the lag stop. Like wtf? And I'm in green bars.

    • Yes, it's totally fair. An online-only game requires an internet connection. When your connection quality is so low that you are impacting others, you should be removed from the game.

    • Shouldn't be banned but it's better to temporally remove an "issue" than allow it to make the game unplayable. Normal poocible it doesn't matter too much but in competitive pve where you are playing against a lot of hardcore fps players you need every bullet to count, people know their guns and how many bullets is needed to take down one player, if 3 run at you and you shoot each player the expected amount but one is still running at you it throws off the game... Infact if you shoot that guy first and he doesn't drop, you continue to shoot till he does and the other 2 have free game on you. It's an unfair advantage for the team with the bad connection and tbh it should be the other way around. Remove them from comparative pve until they fix the issue, destiny should be expected to make a proper fix for this within a month max!

    • Bungie won't ban people that have their connections dip every once in a while. They only go after people that either lagswitch or permanently have a connection that can't handle the game.

      • I think all people with shit connections should be matched with others with shit connections. Problem is, they then end up on fire teams with other who have done connections. You're saying it's ok to have these people ruining the experience of the game just because they can't get better internet? There should be a different crucible that the people you mention can play in and you shouldn't be able to bring them into the regular crucible where they cause a deterioration in gameplay experience for others who have the right kind of connection. Some people cannot play at all because their connection is bad. Poole just past that cutoff are still making the game worse for everyone else and that is what is unfair. Idk how you can be disgusted with the community that wants to have their money's worth and pay for decent internet in order to do so. My question to you is how is it fair for others to have their gameplay experience in the toilet because a few of your friends have really crappy Internet?

      • They shouldn't be banned... They shouldn't be allowed to play PvP in the first place

      • Here's my take. Sure, it's not entirely your fault. But due to your poor connection quality, you are ruining an experience for multiple people. And the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. If you have a laggy connection, you should be locked out of pvp continent until your connection improves to avoid more complaints and/or people quitting on destiny. That is the logical answer to the issue.

      • It ruins the game for the rest of us, so either ban them or force all people with bad connection to be matchmade together.

      • Yes and no. Yes, they should be in general for repeated red bar "offenses" as there is not hard line way of telling your terrible internet from the people intentionally limiting incoming/outbound connections to gain an unfair advantage. Am I saying it needs be permanent? No. Definitely not. But people continued to be caught with the issue can get lengthier bans. I'm not a crucible player really, but this comes from a common sense standpoint. Yes, I understand some people don't have access to great internet. Which is where the "no" comes in. They need better region pairing to prevent the sudden random red bar because said red bar is sadly out of somewhere across the world. OR more options in the 3v3 world, including 3v3 IB that isn't Trials. Less people connected, the less strain it is on each individuals internet.

      • I have a few problems with my internet provider since they are meant to be fixing it since I'm very laggy. I don't want to be banned just for that

      • No. It's wrong. Denying someone access to what they paid for simply because other people report them for a perceived bad connection is not ethical. Remove them from the game in progress, but I don't see how you can justify denying someone access to what they paid for simply because they don't have a good connection to the game. Especially when a lot of the time the problem can be solved at bungies end.

      • Bungie should just mark lag switchers accounts, which only match makes them with other lag switches who are marked too. Hence the game becomes fair again, let them lag each other and do what ever aslong as there not affectiny myself or any other genuine player trying to compete and enjoy the game they paid hard earned money for.

      • If I dip down into the red, I back out, reset xb1 , reset router... I don't think it's fair to the other players and it actually frustrates me too. Happens rarely tho.

      • I think bungie should just put all the red bars in one server and have them fight each other. Basically killing two birds with one stone; the laggers can play and not get banned and there's no more invincible rubber banding gods in regular crucible.
