The game is free, so are all the updates. Destiny however locks someone out of a paywall [u]if[/u] they haven't bought the latest DLC. This regarding especially to TTK wherein players who haven't bought the expansion are only limited to specific gamemodes. Since Warframe is free, you'd expect the developers to want to make some money off of a game that looks very well done to say the least. Again, these microtransactions only make your character stand out is all.

Huh? Ok lets say two players started warframe at the same time. One spends say $100, they get the prime access pack, they now have a prime warframe, a prime melee weapon they can't use for several ranks and a prime dog collar that they can't use before the do the story line quest for the dog. They could waste plat on mod packs which give random mods or buy mastery rank 0 weapons, which would be a total waste since those weapons can be bought with credits or made in 12 hours. Total waste of money, none of this will help them progress, without the right mods they are better off with an excaliber (one of the starting frames). The only use to a prime frame is in the void to get energy from death orbs. Second person says sod paying money, spends their free plat on weapon and frame slots. Joins a clan for free. Clanmates run them straight through dog quest and all boss fights to open all planets. Doing this they will hit mr2 within two or three days, now they have a dog, can trade and are given a bunch of stuff from clanmates. The person who dropped money is now waaaay behind the other guy who has already cleared most of the starchart and has a second frame, the mods he needs, not random ones and maybe a braton prime or the like building. If you think that's unrealistic I can tell you that I have my own clan I made (the grind is real when you do that alone) and help people out in those ways anytime I can and it's not a one sided thing, I've had a guy in his first week start giving me prime parts I needed for a couple of things, I would have had to spend a fair bit of time to trade for those bits. The warframe community is much less toxic and much more willing to teach a carry noobs, not for any altruistic reason, it's simply that the stronger your clanmates the stronger the clan. Not to mention that destiny has silver now, which cannot be grinded/traded for, and certain things can only be bought with that, expect to see more things for silver. That's not the case in warframe, you can trade stuff you farm for plat. Before playing warframe I hated micro transactions with a passion that was holy, but it is the best way of using them that I have ever seen. And just to give some context of what you get for free, the week ttk downloaded there was an update for warframe, it was half a gig bigger than ttk, since then there has been another update, also bigger than ttk in size. Not telling you to play it, would prefer you toxic types stayed out, we don't need the bs from the destiny crowd thx.

You are literally paying for RNG if you're buying the packages. If I spend money in Warframe, it's basically a "Well, here's that rifle you've been chomping at the bit to get." or "Don't want to grind to build that frame? Give us some money. There. It's yours. Enjoy your Equinox or whatever. Oh, you wanted Wukong? Well there's Wukong." You pay for exactly what you want if it's available in the marketplace, and you get it. No bullshit. And considering you only pay money if you want to pay money, and it's completely free otherwise? Warframe is vastly superior to this f***ing slog of a game.
