Is The Taken King Worth $40? (Content Analysis)
[u][b]If you need help on deciding on whether or not to purchase The Taken King, this content analysis will help you in your decision.[/b][/u]
[u]The base game of Destiny launched with:[/u]
• 4 playable destinations
• 4 patrols
• 1 social space
• 20 story missions
• 6 strikes
• 11 crucible maps
• 1 raid
[u]In order for The Taken King to meet its worth of $40, it must have at least 2 thirds of content compared to the base game.
So far, we know The Taken King will contain:[/u]
• 2 playable locations (1 will be the largest destination in Destiny to date, while the size of the other destination is the smallest)
• 1 patrol
• 0 social spaces
• 10 story missions (but has 9 quest missions)
• 4 strikes
• 8 crucible maps
• 1 raid

• 3 new subclasses
• Weapons and armor
• Ships and sparrows
• Emblems and shaders

17 RepliesI'm all for a value comparison... and begrudgingly will say TTK going to be approximately 2/3 the content of Vanilla Destiny. HOWEVER, my issue is that Vanilla Destiny never felt like a $60 product in the first place. It was designed to be incomplete, with no story. Vanilla + TDB + HoW feels like a $60 product. Combined with TTK, that looks like the game we envisioned 2 years ago. So mathematically, TTK will equal the 2/3 value of Vanilla. Theoretically, Vanilla was never worth the $60 price tag in the first place and no matter how much content TTK has, it's being measured against an incomplete product.

The taken King looks more like a reset to Destiny. It will add a narrative story, something Destiny absolutely needs. It's current one isn't exactly good. A massive patch will arrive, fixing many of the things in Destiny now, and possibly adding more. Many new changes to the original game, including an experienced voice actor for videogames to COMPLETELY replace Dinklebot. The great RNG will be tweaked a bit, possibly lowering the grind. ALL ON YEAR TWO. I'm getting it. Hopefully it will make Destiny the game we wanted since launch.

Worth it. $40.00 for the length of playability is greater than most games you would drop $60.00 on.

I'm gonna read several reviews before deciding. Btw, Bungie's Destiny is infamous for undelivered and lack of content, this includes the base game and both DLCs. But there is no doubt TTK is the most expensive DLC. Well of course this trend is not going to stop. Activision started it, EA is gonna follow and Ubisoft won't let this slide

The main question I have isn't the price of the dlc, it's the quality of it. They barely managed to handle the games bugs and glitches from launch. The two prior dlcs lack of quality and promises were also not what I was expecting. Great marketing and advertising on bungie's behalf, but they tend to lack the priorities of fixes/patches on Destiny.

3 new subclasses, but the original 6 were left out. new weapons and armor. How many different weapons and armor were in the first, compared to TTK? Is it additional 2/3? I'm not sure. Original shaders and emblems. Just pointing out that these aren't new items, but it is adding/replacing existing content.

Everyday on my way to work I stop at my local coffee shop. I spend at least $5 Monday-Friday on coffee. So $40 is 10 days worth of coffee. That cup of coffee only last me 20 min maybe less. The TTK dlc is totally worth my $40 but I paid for the collectors edition the very second it was available. Yea I paid for stuff I already own but that money would have gone towards my coffee. :-)
