Toland the Shattered was a Warlock who became obsessed with the dark rituals of the Hive in his quest to find a means of defeating the Darkness. At some point he is known to have spoken with the Darkness itself, for which he was exiled from the City. Eris and Eriana-3 would later recruit him in their attempt to kill Crota, during which he became interested in the power of the Deathsinger. As only Eris returned alive, he is presumed to be dead. He is also the creator of the pulse rifle Bad Juju, whose hunger for combat remains unexplained to this day. Toland is believed to be one of the few humans to know the true nature of the Darkness, and if he lives, we should seek him out and offer him the prospect of returning to the city, so he may give us more insight on the nature of our enemy.
