Ive uninstalled D2 as of this morning. I am done with your model, your choices, how you say you listen and do the opposite, and how you treat players.
You’ve made the game so much worse and you continue to somehow KEEP making it worse.
A brutal, un-fun power climb that acts as a substitute for content. That you acknowledge is slow, but then announce you are nerfing rewards in solo ops. Totally tone deaf.
All of the modifiers that people don’t enjoy are used to increase the difficulty, and now some of the most tolerable modifiers are having their effect reduced. Totally tone deaf.
Bullet sponges everywhere. A list of exotics that we can’t use for new gear lists because someone at HQ decided “nope not this time”. Constant FOMO with events. Nerfs to builds. And zero fun.
Video games are supposed to be fun but that no longer describes this franchise. It’s like you are actively trying to kill this game with the decisions you’ve made. The game feels like a chore to play, gear is an awful, AWFUL grind to slog through.
And grind for the sake of grind where hours are invested so your company metrics go up never has been, never is, and never will be legit content.
So much content in the game is useless because portal activities are the only thing that will really benefit us.
If you make substantive, foundational changes to this model then maybe I’ll come back. Maybe with new leadership things will change, but I have my doubts. I’ve loved this game since the D1 beta, but the decisions being made by this company in so many ways feel insulting to players and I can’t in good conscience continue to support Bungie as they keep saying “we are listening” and then keep implementing changes that make all of our experience worse. It is a shame to see the destiny franchise degraded so completely in quality.
For those of you who love this model, who love sinking in hours to watch number go up through brutal modifiers and ridiculous difficulty, have at it. I hope you continue to enjoy the game as it progresses, and it continues to be fun for you. I legitimately mean that, no sarcasm, no hate.
I am glad you’re having fun.
I have enjoyed so many hours in this world. But my time has come to an end. Thanks to all the guardians who made this what it used to be. It’s been a helluva ride.

Edited by Mark, Scholar of Stars: 8/23/2025 4:28:35 PM
So much content in the game is useless because portal activities are the only thing that will really benefit us.
I uninstalled Destiny 2 a few weeks after Episode: Revenant. But then decided 4 weeks before "Edge of Fate" to finish the season pass, Revenant and Heresy. Finishing this content, especially the season pass in that time frame, was totally doable and fun, even if I didn't like the seasonal vendor mechanics that much. It was engaging because of the variations the seasonal challenges provided. Today, almost all of those challenges focus on the Portal. Which is something I absolutely don't like. I can't stand the monotony of this in-game app. Just to be fair, Bungie solved the problem with unfinished reward passes with the Ash & Iron Major Update (which took them way too long). But that doesn't change the app as the main accelerator for XP. I finished the current reward pass, predominant, with bounties from planetary vendors because I prefer variety. What you said about what's wrong with Destiny 2—I can only agree with you! At one point I really thought I'd miss something if I didn't buy the new DLC of Destiny 2, "Year of Prophecy," but the reality is, I didn't even start with mission three of "Edge of Fate." There were times when I seriously thought about if I should continue with this game or not, because I invested like no other game in it. But now, not anymore. Take care! 3 RepliesI'm 67. I've had to adjust my expectations. In the game as well as irl. I respect your opinion and appreciate you taking the time and effort to craft a quality post. I don't agree with some of the things you said but I can respect your point of view. I think the idea that Bungie is basing changes primarily on increasing playing time has become an often stated but essentially unproven assertion. Don't get me wrong, I certainly believe that it factors into their decisions. I have no way of knowing how much. It's true for every game developer. It's one of the fundamental factors in game design. But I also believe that it's not the only reason for the grind. Maybe not even the primary reason. I'm definitely biased because of what this game has meant to me but I just can't believe the narrative that the developers - the people who make the game - are purposefully ruining it. How much they're influenced - or controlled - by suits is a mystery. Lots of strident opinions but no real proof. What I do know is that making a great game is hard. Despite the derision that statement often elicits around here. Read the book "Blood, Sweat, and Pixels" by Jason Schreier if you doubt it. It's got to be even harder to make a ten year old game seem fresh. Especially when it sometime feels like our journey has reached its inevitable conclusion. I know it's been said over and over through the years but I think we just have to give it some time. It's been shown time after time that Bungie does listen to players. They just don't always agree with them. Sometimes it takes them a looong time. And to be fair, players don't generally have a useful understanding of game design or architecture. We don't know what is simple to change versus what is so woven into the game's systems and code that it is almost impossible to change. We also don't understand Bungie's philosophy of game design the way that developers do. Some of the things some players want run up against core principles of Bungie's vision. A dreg will always be able to kill you on patrol. A weapon that is so much better than anything else that it's used 90% of the time in endgame is going to get nerfed. We have to appreciate that these principles are the foundation for the game. All the things we love and all the things we hate. So I guess my point is that massive changes were made to some core systems for EoF. We clamored for changes and we got them. There's no drop down button for "make the game perfect". There's no golden compass that points in the right direction. Bungie has said that tweaks were needed and they were willing to make them. They're probably going to have to get it right if Destiny is going to be around in the long term. Maybe they'll pull it off. Maybe they won't. The last twid generated a lot of heat. Personally, I don't understand it all well enough to know how the changes are going to feel. I'll have to wait to see. In the meantime I will continue to play on my own terms. I like to shoot the guns. Kill things and don't die. I'm too old to let chasing a number or slightly better gear ruin my fun. I'm still having fun. If you're not the only rational decision is to not play. Sorry we never got to team up. I'll be around if you change your mind. In a few years we'll probably have an AI button for "make game perfect"

Edited by GalaxySpider: 8/24/2025 4:35:16 AMThe new guy in charge is the "We won't overdeliver anymore". He even held a presentation about that topic years ago (and how live-service game models work) you can find on youtube. And just by looking anything pre-Forsaken.....they kept that ideology. And if you consider the fact that Marathon with its non existing content was supposed to launch this year, nothing will ever change under his leadership from here on. Not for Destiny, not for Marathon, not for any other future title.

I’m pleased I haven’t bought this DLC. First time ever that I haven’t bought one. Didn’t like the pre testing shown by the favourite streamers so I’m pleased I’ve missed this one out. Don’t get me wrong I’m still playing what I can play within the current boundaries of the game but the grind is ridiculous. Thoroughly enjoyed the last DLC and the nether but I personally think this is beyond enjoyable. I’m 64 now and I’m looking around at other games to enjoy. I’m not going to remove the game from my ps5 at this moment because things may change in the near future. I certainly can feel the pain the new lights must be experiencing and I can see why most of them have left.

I’m on the cusp myself. Fireteam needs a buff Ok let’s nerf solo and pinnacle. We don’t like avant guard Ok let’s double down. We need more portal activities. Ok we will put fireteam stuff in pinnacle. Pete is gone. Let’s swap him with the under deliverer. The grind is so slowwwwww Copy that folks we are listening to you it’s slower than we want also. So we’re gonna make you go to rahool when you eventually get a prime. And weee gonna lower the primes in solo and pinnacle. Just who were they listening to? Definitely not 99% of the players that still play. Of next weeks twid doesn’t walk this all back than this will be my final week also. I quit for a year before and enjoyed other games. I honestly feel bad for talking my friend into buying the expansion. This is the worst the game has been and until this weeks twid I didn’t think it could get worse.

Having a PS4 I have to uninstall and reinstall often just to get the game to work. You are lucky only having to uninstall and delete your character just once and be done. Good job.

Finally some legitimate criticism that’s not a hate -blam!- for the game. I do enjoy it though the power grind can be brutal. I do hope you come back. I do hope bungie listens and just buffs fireteam ops instead of nerfing solo.

Best narrative so far. This needs far more upvotes. Also uninstalled tonight.

3 RepliesBattlefield 6 beta has shown me just how cartoony D2's pvp really is. If you guys aren't having fun with D2 anymore, put it down for a few months to a year. You won't regret it. 🤙

Run and don't look back. 👍

Constant FOMO with events.
Every game that does yearly events usually has limited edition items associated with them. This is not a bungie exclusive.
