The Difficulty Changes

If Bungie does not revert the difficulty changes from Lightfall or change the difficulty in some other way, this game will not survive past The Final Shape. The fact that they haven't already either shows incredible ignorance or just a hate for the player-base. Many members of the general Destiny community have communicated their dislike of the difficulty changes and several Bungie employees tried to speak to management about how they were a bad idea. Unlike much of the active community, I don't wish for this game to fail. I love this game and it has brought me many great experiences, which is why I hope Bungie listens.

Neomuna patrol got slightly less boring, but there’s still nothing to do there, so I don’t care. Elected difficulty patrol with world bosses are needed. Lost sectors feel basically the same. We need them in their own playlist that rotates between multiple rather than the same one over and over. A GM difficulty option would be nice as well. I don’t do lower difficulty nightfalls, so I don’t care if they got slightly harder. GMs are still way easier than their release counterparts. I miss seeing a GM come up and taking multiple attempts to get the one clear that we needed. They should be extremely punishing and difficult like they used to be, rather than being balanced around farming them over and over for Adepts. Leave the current difficulty for farming and just add a higher difficulty option for those that want a challenge. Day one Crota was perfect. Strike playlist is still boring. Needs a higher difficulty option. Maybe even take the current GM difficulty and make it a playlist difficulty. Seasonal content is easy and uninteresting. Deep dives were cool, but repetitive and extremely unrewarding for the time it took to complete. Season of the witch came with two genuinely bad activities. We’re so strong at this point that there’s next to no challenging activity. I do not care if the lower tier content is a little harder than it was before. I would not care if they made it easier again. I just want the hardest content to actually be hard. The best part about an elected difficulty system is that people who don’t want hard content could pick the lower difficulty stuff and not touch the hard stuff unless they want to. Make the game harder, but have it be optional.

Your mods don’t flow into a build at all. All they did is make it so low to mid tier content is actually a threat IF you have a build. The game will be hard for anyone if you just slap things on your character an hope the target dies by holding the fire button. Inspect any of my characters to see what your setup should look like. EDIT: On second thought, get good. Apparently recommending builds to less experienced players infuriates them.🥴🥴😂😂

      • Is there any legendary lost sector in neomuna? Are they gonna bring one next season?

      • They don’t get it Bud, and don’t listen to reason. They listen to the streamers who are usually talented players and find things easy. The large silent majority that were quite happy with the game’s difficulty were ignored, found the game less fun and left.

      • I don't think it's the difficulty that's bringing the game down my guy, innovation imo is what's sorely needed not a revert back to brain dead easy mode, you're so overpowered as is that the game's still a cakewalk anyways I don't see how the changes made anything extremely hard.

        • - Lightfall was awful - Bungies ultra progressive culture was translating into game narratives I didn't find compelling - Monetization had become overly aggresive - Poor New Light XP & Content Partitioning makes it hard to onboard friends. If you have to constantly build craft and min max broken builds to be able to make this artificial trash "difficulty" semi bearable, then thats terrible game design. But what do we expect by this hypocrititcal junior dev skeleton crew that barely keeps the game on life support these days...

          • They’ve done the same crap with Escalation Protocol when it first came out in warmind. It was very divisive then as well. I think perhaps they thought that since the legendary WQ campaign had been popular they should double down on difficulty again. And in true bungie fashion they’ve overdone it. My main gripe with this bulletsponge -blam!- is that it ruins legendary primaries. Those guns, imo, are what makes bungie’s gunplay shine the most. Plinking away with them at overtuned npc health is not destiny anymore, nor is heavily relying on special, heavy or abilities. At least not all the time, those things used to be complementary. I really don’t like this wow wizard nonsense that’s being pushed in our faces as of late.

          • At this point, I think this has fallen on deaf ears over at Bungie, but I do agree that the changes made in Lightfall have been a disaster for the game as a whole, and more than likely one of the big contributors of the population decline as of late. All of these activity caps have effectively removed all resemblance of progression from the game, and turned the endgame into an equivalent of The Division's 1.3 update with bullet sponges that can hit harder than a semi-truck from half the map away from you. I've posted in several of these threads before and have had numerous discussions with others on the topic so I don't feel the need to reiterate the whole debate, but the key issue comes down to a failure to reinvent the wheel as it pertains to the enemies in this game. Endgame encounters have been effectively the same for years now with the only answer to 3.0 reworks being similar to what Bungie did for The Reckoning's Bridge Encounter. So many of these "difficulty problems" honestly need to be solved at the combatant and encounter levels, not the player scaling level. We need new and smarter AI that aren't bullet sponges (Take a look at how Massive addressed these problems in The Division 2 with their "tank" enemies, targetable armor pieces that turned into a crit spot when broken). Mechanically, Bungie needs to start thinking outside of the box with new mechanics (Less plates, orbs, etc) as well to cause players to want to move away from classic loadouts. This was another big failure of the caps this year, all of these interesting subclass/weapon synergies out there, and nobody cares at the endgame because the point is always either "You need maximum DPS", or you "need maximum survivability". Sure the game was a bit easier without the caps, but players were much more willing to get out of "the norm" then.

I agree. They never should have overtuned entry level nightfalls and capped strikes playlist all the while making GMs more easy. Bring back the difficulty to destiny and give the casuals their uncapped light power back.

            • It’s so funny to read the opposing opinions on content difficulty. A lot of popular content creators argue that it’s not difficult enough.

            • Bungie also recently lay off a lot of their workers, and knowing that it means their main focus is mainly money plus even after their newer game comes out there will possibly be Twitch streamers/Youtubers playing it that will give it some attention so then Bungie can milk players from there too. In short for what I am saying is that Bungie will possibly never listen, and will continue to focus on their marketing team until Destiny 2 finally falls as a whole.

I don't understand why there can't be both. Having one or the other is only splitting the playing committee into scrubs and elitists. The "git gud" or "touch grass" crowds should both be catered to, at least according to Bungo themselves with their "play your way" all inclusive attitude.

                  • Completely disagree. The difficulty tuning is the only positive thing that has been done to the game since TWQ. The game being super casual & void of challenge has been a major issue with the game since Forsaken.
