Looking for your PVP thoughts

Greetings Guardians of Bungie.net. We would like to hear from all you PVP players out there on what kinds of changes to the Crucible you would like to see in the future. We have a short update from the team on our PVP plans going live in the TWID shortly calling for everyone to share their feedback to help us prioritize what changes we work on to continue to improve the Crucible experience. Whether it’s playlist preferences, matchmaking settings, Trials, comp, or anything else that affects the way Guardians battle each other, please post your feedback below.

      • For me the most important thing that Destiny PVP is sorely lacking is a consistent connection and feel network wise to each game. You can have games that feel great, everything is responsive and clean but others that feel like garbage. Like you are walking in quicksand, or under water everything is blurry and sluggish. If you don't fix how PVP feels network wise you will never grow the player base. SBMM or CBMM is irrelevant if no one wants to play it because compared to every other game it's terrible and inconsistent. Destiny 2 has no problems getting PVE players to play as PVE has network connections based on who the players choose to play with and interactions for the most part are with the server and not other players. Due to the fact that you won't build PVP servers, if you wanted to make PVP as good as it can be. Give players THE CHOICE to choose local connections at the cost of possibly having to wait longer. Or, THE CHOICE to get the fastest game possible using your current intercontinental matchmaking. People wait for quality PVP matches in every other game, they will do it for Destiny if they have the choice. This would give Destiny the best chance to build a player base pulling players from other games that currently think Destiny PVP is trash network wise. In the PVP lexicon, Destiny is at the bottom of the barrel. One way to deal with SBMM vs CBMM is to do both. Like you did in Halo. Give mirrored game types in Social and Competitive. They you don't have to choose and people can play what they want instead of endlessly arguing over which one is better. New players play against other new players for awhile until they get better like 50 to 100 games. Then they graduate to the open Social pool and the ability to play comp. While they are in the beginner lobbies, give them a progression stat and level giving them incentive to keep playing until they can get into the open Social and Competitive pools. If you really want to make Destiny better and viable long term you have to make changes like this for it to work. Metas, Maps, Fireteam Based Trials, all of that stuff is for the hardcore PVP players that will play anything. If they were ever going to leave they would have done it already. What Destiny needs is a real player base to even out matchmaking. You should also consider charging money for PVP maps, like COD and Halo did back in the day. If you're reasoning for letting PVP die a slow death is not having the manpower, then charge money for it. If no one pays then your reasoning is justified however, if people have a quality experience from it and it is a healthy viable game, people will pay.

        • Special ammo economy needs a look. There’s nothing SPECIAL about it. People can basically run shotguns/fusions as primaries because they get ammo on every kill.

              It would be awesome if we have a capture the flag game mode like your previous Halo games. Not just the game mode itself but also the free will to use vehicles and turrets around the map.

              • I love SBMM. As a PvE main, the only time I ever consider playing PvP is game modes with SBMM. I play comp from time to time, casually, but not to climb the ladder. I play it for fun, and to try and improve. Its the only game mode I can play and not be beaten so bad it makes me not even want to play Destiny at all. SBMM allows me to get better.

              • TRIALS LABS There should be 3 Lobbies. If you queue in solo: you play Free 4 All. If you queue in with one other player: you play 2 v 2 v 2. If you queue in with two other players: you play 3 v 3. No more mis-matching stacks. I would actually go a step further and say you should consider making clan membership is required, except for Free 4 All. I've always felt Trails should be End Game for PvP clan members.

              • I've always liked how Battlefield rates player performance. You get points for kills, assists, suppressing enemies, revives, objectives, etc. The scoreboard is players listed from top to bottom based on overall score. This better illustrates team players, not players on a team who play solo. Although, K/D is still important as it can show build performance and that should be displayed on the scoreboard as well.

                150 RPM HC's I am not going to lie, when these got removed it was a good call, the reasons were fair and I understood. But now, with the existance of many weapons that have a much lower TTK than 150 RPM HC's ever had, I am confused. Can these be brought back? Plz. Also why don't we have a competitive playlist that restricts the use of abilities (no abilities, or single use abilities to promote smarter use and tactical play) and focusses on gun fights more? So much of PvP in D2 is just "how can I have a build where I can spam X ability as much as possible".

              • Thanks for creating this post. As a relatively new Destiny 2 player who enjoys both solo and Fireteam PvP experiences, I've noticed a few issues that could be improved in the game. Objective Mode Map Design: Some objective points are too close to doors or double-doors, leading to shotgun and fusion rifle camping in early rounds. Additionally, Trials often becomes a race to the point, resulting in Well/Bubble spam. Heavy often spawns closer to one side than the other. These map design aspects should be reconsidered to create a more balanced and enjoyable experience for players Class Exotic Balance: In Survival mode, Titan barricade users and players with perks such as Target lock or utilising strand hatchlings, dominate the gameplay. This imbalance is more pronounced on maps with heavy ammo spawns in two-way chokepoints like Javelin-4 and Vostok. Reducing barricade health further would help. A balance change is needed to address this issue effectively. Shotgun Balancing: The effectiveness of shotguns in close-quarters combat can be frustrating due to the airborne effectiveness, slide+melee lunge, and mid-air difficulty in hitting targets. This issue is particularly noticeable in PvP, where close encounters are common. Nothing frustrates players more shooting a shotgun point blank and it whiffing. Hunter's Stompees Exotic: Stompees, which provide crucial movement boosts, are unfortunately tied to the dodge ability after the latest nerf. This can be limiting, especially when you don't have the dodge ability at the start of a round. Comparatively, other classes have movement exotics (transversive, dunemarchers) that don't require a specific ability and offer better mobility options. Reevaluating this exotic's mechanics could improve the Hunter's gameplay experience. Furthermore with air effectiveness still in the game, hunters utilising movement should not be penalised. In conclusion, addressing these issues related to map design, class exotic balance, and weapon archetype balancing can enhance the overall PvP experience in Destiny 2 and make it more enjoyable for both new and experienced players. Players are eager to see these concerns addressed in future updates and map packs.

              • Pull fusions back a little some how? There's legit no downside (especially being a titan) unless it's slow charging, but then a single bolt can erase you from a football field away Bring back combined arms please. First person special ammo swords? Maybe an exotic? Make momentum a permanent game mode?

                • Please make Comp/Trials reflect the loot output of nightfalls. We only have one way to get adepts and upgrade materials and that’s going flawless in trials. PvE has raids and GMs to get those same rewards much much quicker and easier. Comp needs more weapons, there’s 2 and only one is available and once people get the roll they want they stop playing comp. Also can we make casual pvp casual. The fun of casual 6v6 is that you can mess around and try new things, now you need to run the best weapons just to hopefully not get mercied by people who have 1000 flawless clears. Anteaus Wards shouldn’t allow people to shoot while the shield is up. It’s completely unfair to block and reflect all damage while closing the gap and shooting at people with no repercussions. Why do we not have kda in banner? No one plays obj anyway and if they do, they still wanna see kda. Child of the old gods should not go through walls and follow until the end of time. Stompees should be reverted to normal because other classes have movement or class exotics that are even more insane (peacekeepers, ophidians, osmios). Stasis warlock should be looked at in pvp, they have 3 ways at all times to freeze people. No other class has this. Freelance should return in trials as well because duos are wrecking trial’s matchmaking.

                • The idea of promotion/demotion series in a matchmaking system that, by definition, aims to have a 50% win/loss is ridiculous. Even if comp overall isn't rank-based, promotion/demotion games should be rank-based, so if you want to enter Plat rank you have to prove that you're good enough and can beat Golds more often than not. If I'm not doing a great job of explaining my thought process here, I'll give an example. A while ago I played comp and placed in gold. Because it's sbmm and not rank-based, I was playing Adepts and Ascendants consistently once I hit my second placement game, and after I placed I immediately matched a crazy good sniper who literally didn't miss a shot two games in a row and entered relegation. Therefore, in order to stay out of Silver rank, I had to win 2/3 games in Ascendant lobbies. I managed to (barely) avoid relegation, but the point remains I shouldn't have to beat Ascendant players just to stay out of Silver.

                  Talking exclusively about solo Comp here. Matchmaking still needs work, I keep playing the same people over and over again. There also seems to be no team balance whatsoever, while matching with the same people I constantly notice the better players matched together against the weaker ones. The connection is abysmal 7/10 matches. I know about the issues surrounding PvP networking but the amount of matches with general lag, ghost bullets, people teleporting across the map etc. has gotten so bad to the point where it's almost unplayable now. Your Anti-Cheat needs work, for both actual hackers and people using 3rd party devices. If other companies can implement systems that can catch out, flag and seperate hackers and 3rd party device users, you can too. This is all on top of the things Bungie have already acknowledged. Having taken a few months break from PvP it's sad to see that nothing has really happened at all in the last 6 months since this was first mentioned by Bungie.

                • Not exactly pvp feedback but please for the love of God let us have the old Shayura reticle back! I appreciate that you tried something new but at least give us the option to try it out or stick with the old one because I absolutely hate how the new one looks and I actually feel like my aim is worse with it.

                    Well… First thing if want is better lobby balencing. I feel like I get the short end of the deal in all modes, and I struggle enough as it is. Doesn’t feel good when I’m always the only one pushing objectives and I’m put with others who can’t even get a an efficiency of over 1. It’s why I completely stopped playing comp. I also feel like sbmm is also, in some ways, not putting me in the correct skill bracket sometimes, which is another reason I don’t do comp that much. There’s literally 0 point trying for ascendant, the crucible title, or weapon rolls. I also refuse to use the crucible transmit effect since my rank is already so low. I also would like more weapons for pvp. It’s doesn’t ever have enough good loot to justify what I already deal with. However… I should mention this. There is virtually NO chance that I’ll play trials for loot. Since trials inception, I’ve found not a SINGLE piece of trials loot was able to convince me to play. I suffer from crippling depression and anxiety, and I know that trials would only GREATLY worsen this. A lot of people threatened to kill me and my family off in this game for playing badly at one point or another. Id get that message every single game. As a result, my trials record is simply 0. No play time at all whatsoever. Putting more loot into trials will NOT convince me to risk further strife in my already deteriorating real life situation. Adding avarice armor won’t entice me. Making more frequent drops won’t entice me. Adding meta defining pve weapons won’t entice me. You have to understand that not everyone can handle trials. Attempting to convince me to play such a toxic, frustrating, and difficult playlist simply won’t work. I know EVERYONE seems to think adding good loot to that playlist will work in boosting population, but this has NEVER been the case for me. I’m sorry. I simply can’t play trials. That’s about it for me. Hope this helps.

                  • Aside from the common feedback of more maps, I feel what the game needs the most is more variety in game modes. It feels like 90% of game modes we have are just different variations of control and clash with a little different seasonings. My background was from Halo where you had so many different game modes like CTF, multiteam, oddball, juggernaut, infection, (or exotic gun game maybe 😉) etc. I feel like Destiny would benefit greatly from having a party game mode playlist that offered these. I know that making playlists for each of these modes would fracture the player pools, so I think the best way around this is to throw them into an action sack like playlist, where relic, team scorched, and mayhem also live. In order to make this playlist function, I feel it would require a map/mode (or both) voting system. I know its a lot of work but if Destiny ever got a forge mode where we could create custom maps/modes I feel that would breathe so much longevity into the game, but I know thats a huge ask.                   • Get rid of SBMM. This game is not competitive and that's fine, so let's stop pretending. Bring Arc Titan in line. It's been the top of the meta for at least the past 16 months.

                    Balanced lobbies, to start. It’s the worst, right now. Put stacks with stacks; solos with solos. Address the lag. It’s also as bad as it gets. All PvP players know that your cross-play is in dire need of tuning. It’s ridiculous.
